When this all started this evening I cracked open a bottle of red and settled in for an evenings viewing. Now I’m wondering what people did when the first American civil war started? [emoji23]

Imagine being American president and having your Twitter account suspended like a naughty teenager.
Lots of chatter about Pence invoking the 25th amendment tonight.
Not likely is it?
If he did could he then pardon Trump?

Ian Austin has completely lost it on Twitter, if anyone can copy his tweets into this thread or the Labour thread. Struggle to do so on my iPhone.
Just seen a video of the young women being shot in the Capitol building
She was trying to climb through the window in guessing into the main hall. Or whatever they call it
She was shot as she was climbing in the window

Pence starting the senate proceedings again
Quite a good opening speech and condemning the actions earlier but saying “you did not win" and highlighting they are reconvening the very same day

I'm trying to stay awake to find out if the objections are withdrawn or if Trump's lackeys are too scared of him and the alt-right to act appropriately.
If you can be impeached for getting a BJ, you should be able to get impeached for staging a coup.

The Republicans have spent the past few years creating this disaster. Some of them are too far gone to step back from the edge.
Excellent article

It seems like they doubled down, Republican senators talking of ‘electoral irregularities’ and widespread fraud. FFS There is NO EVIDENCE! I like a good conspiracy myself but I also like to examine the facts and make a case. What is it with people that don’t want evidence before reaching a decision? Or is it wilful blindness because they know it keeps them in a cosy job and GTF with due process:rolleyes:
I find it incredible that, after everything that's happened, the Republicans are still going on about a stolen election.
This is just a total lie and they've seen the effect it has on the worst elements of his followers, yet they still carry on.
Yep, we’re being fed the narrative in Congress last night that it’s Trumps ‘mad’ supporters responsible. It’s the Republican Party that has been feeding all this for years. Mitch McConnell saying ‘we will not be bullied by mob rule’ last night is beyond hypocrisy since he’s been banging on about stolen elections up till last week when he gave up
There’s a definite element of ‘pinning the blame on the dumb blue collar redneck’ going on.
BBC are saying 4 people dead. The blood is on the hands of the president.
Staggering scenes last night and unfortunately, I fear it will escalate in the coming days, weeks and months ahead.
I can't believe the death toll was only 4. Police definitely must have been told to back off.
The vast majority of what was on view looked like "redneck", it's difficult to believe this odd group represents anything else, but if you scratch the surface, theres some clever republicans hiding behind this and manipulating them for their own ends. Shame on them.
A bit like how Hitler used Stormtroopers on Krystalnacht to do the Nazi party's dirty work.
Trump has blood on his hands but he won't care.

Priti Patal = Bottle Merchant.
She’s refused to name Trump or condemn his actions.

Whats been lost amongst all the treason is the Dems will now control the Senate. Its scary that 60 odd million people voted for this guy but x2 Democratic senators in Georgia is unprecedented.
The American people rejected Trump. Unfortunately a huge swath of the country appear to be as stupid, racist and violent as we've all thought.
Before the last UK election I read an article about Johnson. The author knew him personally and she said he was a man either disinterested in or incapable of caring about the feelings of others.
She said he had betrayed his own siblings, cheated on every partner he had ever had, studiously ignored some of his own children, betrayed his political allies, used and discarded friends, deceived his employers etc etc etc. All he was interested in was what was best for Boris. Anything else was unimportant , if he got what he wanted then he was happy and if he retained a bit of popularity whilst doing so then all the better.
Trump has all the same tendencies. He won't shed a single tear for the lives ended because of his rhetoric. If it destabilises the next US govt and paves the way for one of his brood to have a run at the next election then he's happy. Everything else is just collateral damage.
