A very random question (as I need someone to either convince me this is bull****, or look at it differently):

South Lanarkshire Council are implementing 'emergency covid works' in a number of towns around the county - implementing a 20mph speed zone in towns to 'aid with social distancing'.

How the **** does slowing traffic down by 10mph aid with social distancing. I like to think of myself as a somewhat clever guy but I just can't see this.

I don't think any vaccine will stop 100% deaths. The English CMO has said restrictions will end at some point and there will be an annual figure of deaths with Covid the public will accept in the same way they do with other diseases, think he mentioned around 5,000.

I was (randomly) having a look at the Public Health Neighbourhood maps of Covid infecftions side by side on a screen with the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation maps for Glasgow this morning - there's certainly some merit to the suggestion that there's a link - places like Drumchapel have consistently had some of the highest rates of covid and they score very badly on the SIMD. I do wonder if the pattern is consistent elsewhere.

High foot traffic areas with thin pavements where people step into the road to allow people to pass at safe distance?

I’m sure it will be.

Look for areas of deprivation and crime and you’ll find higher CV rates I’m sure.

The reasons will be complex of course ranging from general health / diet to type of work to lack of access to healthcare to housing all the way down to people just more likely not to give a **** about laws, rules n regs regardless.

Should make it safer to step on to the road to avoid pedestrians glued to the middle of the pavement (not sure if that problem's been mentioned before anywhere on hibs.net).

In the trials the figures refer to, so far it's something like 300,000 people with zero deaths or hospitalisations so the odds are decent. Out of almost 180,000 real life vaccinated people in isreal only 30 got covid and all mild cases.

The elephant in the room is people will refuse it so that is our biggest battle. Usually you'd say **** then but it's our nhs they will need. Large test of over 13 year olds happening in the US which is good as that would be more covered.

In the US they've been reporting the relationship between poverty and corona for months. Not only are you much more likely to catch it if you're poor, but also more likely to die from it compared to others. The same is probably accurate for the apparent higher casualties amongst ethic minorities.

Pish they aren't reducing its the French owned Belgian plants that are messing up why because they had 3 and a half months less to iron out problems. UK ordered moderna 3 months later than the USA. They are using there's now while we have to wait until April, I wonder if we can make America send some of there's now.

Biotec the German company are going to massively under provide aswell eu don't seem as keen to go to court with them unsurprisingly.

It seems a bit of a stretch to be complaining about the lack of something you haven't approved yet. I think the EU are under a bit of pressure to get some vaccinating done. Good job they don't have Ozy on their case! :greengrin

Might be crap because its the mail but it says today the end of February and 30 million by summer. Usa is getting 100 million by the summer. Novavax is 60 million for the uk starting in the summer but they hope sooner

Hopefully that’s correct. Will speed up our vaccination process and hopefully get us closer to normal quicker.

Cool, if that's your take on it then you'll be fine in the coming years and decades when the EU will take the lion's share of most things because they were first in the queue, ordered more or are just simply the bigger and more attractive market to sell or buy from. I'd understand your line of argument a bit more if the AstraZeneca plants in the different countries were from different companies, but they're not, they all belong to the same Swedish/British owned concern so blaming the French, Belgiens or Germans just sounds stupid.
