Jonathan Mok, who shared pictures of his battered face and wrote about his ordeal in a Facebook post, which has been shared thousands of times, that one of them tried to kick him in the head before saying: “‘I don’t want your coronavirus in my country.”
Their attitudes and blatantly racist overtones in their speeches and, increasingly, policies (obviously not in Farage's case) have hardened and legitimised the racist elements of our societies and empowered them to feel like they can get away with this type of physical and verbal behaviour.
I don't think the blame of this attack (or others like it) lies squarely at their door (media hyperbole has a large part to answer there) - but it's undoubtedly a factor.

Racist attacks and hate crimes have increased in this country because of the rhetoric of people like Farage. Look at the reports directly after the Brexit referendum. People used it as an excuse to attack, harass and openly abuse. EU citizenz, black people and Asians.
They've basically given the thugs more justification and emboldened them.

You're right. This incident may not have been a result, direct or indirect, of what the right wing have been saying, but there can be no doubt that they've created a situation in this country where intolerance of foreigners is acceptable, if not actively encouraged.
