You seem to have missed his quality signings out and the fact he baled out prior to a run of fixtures he didn't fancy.

Putting all the sniping aside, on the eve of the season after 2 years of dreadful football and sub standard players, we are seriously under prepared for the coming season.
We expected a lot of change, a summer of change even and the best case scenario was a lot of new players to take time to gel. We have lost 15 and brought in 5, 2 of which were here last season.
I just listened to the podcast from sportsound last night and they were raving about how good united were. And how good a performance Motherwell put in and even St Johnstone. United in particular look like they have excellent young players, a solid defence, creative midfield and superb front three.
Us? Midfield is no better, if anything marginally worse. And it was ineffectual last season. Attack is worse off and defence may be a little better. And we finished 11th last season.
All I can see for first two games is :-
Dundee United 3 Hibs 0
Hibs 0 Hearts 2
As others have said we could be in trouble by the 1st Sept if we wait to get a couple in then. Saying that we have the AGM in October....so oh all know what's could be coming then...
Agreed.
The overhaul we absolutely desperately needed has not materialised and it's an absolute disgrace to be honest. Close to 8000 season tickets sold if we're to believe Petrie and yet almost every other team in the league appears to be in better shape than us, the majority of whom who have much less in the way of season tickets, and at cheaper prices!
I honestly can't see anything other than 2 defeats in the first 2 games and then we are absolutely back to square one.
It will take at least another 3 quality signings to persuade me otherwise.
I am going to put a bit money on United to give us a hiding. 4-0 should stem off the pain of defeat.
You could almost write the post match report already.
We had McPake and Griffiths for a good part of last season and still finished 11th. Two of the others you mention might improve on who we had in those positions already but Cairney in midfield in the SPL is untried so we can't say if that has strengthened our midfield and on paper at least it looks not to have. Our foward line looks weaker (again on paper).
As others have said above, the overhaul some of us hoped for has not materialised and there is a chance that clubs with less resources than us are doing better with the little they have.
What is really frustrating for me, and to a point undermines our club, is that the fans seem to recognise problems that the club don't or at least appear to be incapable of sorting. That at a time when Dundee Utd are fairly consistently good not comparing with the OF, St J continue to punch above their weight as do Motherwell, etc. The club continually ask us to back them but some may feel they are simply flogging a dead horse, because year in year out it's just the same old. I don't know what players are available but like others here I think I have realistic expectations, which haven't been met for a few years now.
I'll be as happy as anyone if Hibs win and then follow up with a win or at least a draw against Hearts, but I just can't see it, that is the point.
We all hope there will be big improvements. The jury is out after a so-so pre-season, both in terms of games played and signings.
Totally agree.
We, as fans pretend to know everything and like to suggest players for the club to sign. However we don't know who is out there, willing to sign or has the personality we are looking for.
What is frustrating me is this 'summer of change' advertised by the club, just never materialised. Every fan (irrespective of football knowledge) knows our midfield is an embarrassment, we now play our season opener with a weaker midfield than last season. Even if we were to sign a few more, players need time to settle.
Some of us don't deserve to be termed as a 'supporter'.
A disgraceful situation to be in after all Petries pleading and the fan phone calls, beginning to wonder what is going on at Hibs and is Fenlon the right man, the next 2 weeks will tell a lot.
4-1 Hibs as opposed to 4-6 united says a lot!!!!! Even the bookies know we are going to be bottom feeders this year!!!
My daughter goes out with one of the Livvy players -JC & Yogi have changed the whole way of thinking at the club...the players love it, they love JC's professionalism, when he takes the training he leads from the front!
They cannot believe how fit he is, he could probably still play in that division...
...anyway, the moral of the story is that JC tried to change Hibs into a fitter & football playing team (not hoofball) changing their eating habits, their lifestyle (that's been our problem for years at ER) but the players couldn't recognise what he was up to so they went greetin' to the moustache WHO should have told them to get on their bike!
I remember one game when Maka laced one up the park from his box - JC ran out the dugout and gave him pelters for booting the ball back to the opposition as he just told him 2 mins before that to throw out to the LB/RB. How do any good footballing sides play, play from the back!!
Ok, he signed a few players that were not so great but he only had so much funds to play with and he was still learning as it was his first job. I think that was one of the reasons he left was that he wanted more cash? Might be wrong!
The way we go about our transfer business is extremely frustrating for us fans, although I do see where the club is coming from in not releasing info etc. However, if its true about some of our targets that we have missed out on, other SPL sides are after them too. Every paper is full of info on signing targets of St J, Utd, ICT etc but Hibs are never mentioned. Fans get frustrated because there is a lack of communication from the club about possible targets. All we hear is 'we are trying to bring people in' 'the right quality' etc it is wearing thin.
But the way Hibs do business we could sign someone at lunchtime today that no-one could of predicted, its the Hibs way of doing things it seems.
It would be nice to feel that we can compete with so called 'lesser' teams though. Teams with smaller wage budgets, much smaller income (ST's etc) and much smaller fan bases.. At the moment I'm struggling to see us compete with anyone in the transfer market.
Petrie can blab all he wants about the Rangers situation however the TV deal is now sealed and every other club is in the same boat..
You don't really earn support though, support should be there when its needed! When one of your family is having a bad time do you sit down and assess whether or not they have done enough for you to help them through their difficult time? I doubt it!
Support of something/someone you love should be unconditional, not something that is earned!
Using your family as an analogy is a bit much.
It's a football team!!!!!!
The reason people watch sport is to be entertained by people who have a superior skillset and can demonstrate that by competing against other highly skilled individuals. See the Olympics.
Hibs are neither entertaining or capable of competing so why should i waste time watching. I will always support though.

I fancy us to take something at the weekend. United got a bit of run around at times last night, and although the deflection was cruel, their keeper kept them in the game [why didn't we ever ask the agent that gets their keepers to get one for us?]
That must have taken something out of their legs.
The player we needed to sign in the pre-season was Mr Confidence. We won't know if he has signed until the whistle blows.
