Ties in with what a few folk have said, I’m sure we’re willing to pay it. Could be an interesting few days/weeks!

The important word there is it “could” cost us over a mill. Doesn’t sound like that it’s set in stone. There was an article a few weeks ago that they valued him in the high six figure bracket. Lets see what happens…
I think the bonus now that we didn't really have in McCowans case is that we have a chance to make back the £1m and more with Triantis. If he joins us, goes to the World Cup and plays well he could be worth 2/3/4x that very quickly. Alternatively if he never leaves but is one of our better players for 10 years it's a worthwhile investment.
The big question on my mind is how would they know what Sunderland would accept for the player? Has someone from Sunderland spoken openly to a journalist about it?
I'd suggest it's purely guess work as the detail of any negotiations will be kept private.
That said, I think Hibs would go to £1m to sign Triantis permanently
It could also be Hibs putting the info out there through the EEN...
“Plymouth Argyle, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, and Blackpool are now all in the hunt for the midfielder”

If we can get Deal done can only add to that if NT was ever to move on
Such is the nightmare of competing with English clubs. Hibs can compete comfortably with their gates. But can't scale their wages. Crazily some have recently been bankrupt. One thing they cannot ascend is Hibs playing in their domestic top league with access to Europe.
Triantis, who has national ambitions, will be keen to play at the highest level avaliable to him. It's going to be a big decision for him to decide between wages and platform.
Has there been any chat to suggest we're looking at bringing Triantis and Simons in?
Or is one or the other?
I'd personally be surprised if we're wanting both - unless there's a departure planned from the current midfield
The link was for the lad from Hull. But can be applied to Triantis as well.
The issue you have when trying to go for someone like Simons is that Scotland just isn't on their radar for most of their lives. So the idea of playing for Hibs vs Bolton might not seem like the hard decision we'd like it to be. If we had the group stage football however that does change the conversation drastically.
If you look at the wording, it could be over a million, with the number of games he plays etc, so it won't be a million up front, obviously a sell on clause as well, so definitely doable 💚💚
I don't think it's unreasonable to say we may see Newell get phased out of a starting role more into a older head type who comes on or rotates more often with the starters. Similarly I think there's a decent chance we see Levitt leave if he doesn't want to sign a new deal as well as NMW. That would leave us looking at a potential centre mid group of Triantis, Simons, Manneh, Newell and then potentially Campbell as a last resort. I think between them we'd be well covered in that area of the park.
Big ask to secure both Triantis and Simons though.
If we manage to bank a decent amount of money from Elie, Vente, Miller, and Levitt (just a guess at who could shift on for varying amounts of money) I don't think a reinvestment of that type of money is out of the question when there's scope for it to be made back. But I do agree it's likely something will need to go towards a Rocky replacement and a centre forward or two.
I think you could be right, Newell will be here for another few years and with the leadership/community role he has I think it would be excellent for him to be the guy who leads the next generation of midfielders and players at hibs, a great role model, pro and human being for people to look up to at hibs.
Certainly hope he decides to stick around at ER beyond his retirement.
