From the limited amount I know of it, workers are paid the same wages for working 1 days worth of hours less and these trials have led to the best return of productivity from the staff.

You could look at it as a 20% pay rise if you want to put a different slant on it?

Both models have been studied. The biggest study of it's kind thus far was for reducing both the days and hours worked and the results were interesting. 92% of the companies involved elected to keep the changes after the study ended:

I don't think anyone actually works 40 hrs a week anymore, you might work 9-5 but your lunch hour isn't paid, so that's 35 hrs pw, easily transferred into 4 days.

A lot of office based jobs can be fairly flexible and centred more around deadlines than anything and should be able to accommodate 4-day weeks.

Yesterday I started late, took an afternoon break to run 5k and then finished early to do nursery pick up. Then I worked 10-midnight when everyone was asleep.

I dont think there should be much stopping me flexing my hours to not work a day, or at least a half day but still do my work/hours overall. I plan to propose just that in the near future.

My job allows me to do that already to a certain extent. We also have TOIL, so if I end up working overtime I get it added to a day off account, with time and a half after 22:00 or on Saturdays and double time on Sundays. I do have to work long hours in some circumstances but that's fine by me, for example I was working all last weekend and the time I accumulated means I've gathered enough time to take a whole week off when business permits.

I'm an early bird. I officially start at 8 but it's very rare that I'm not at my desk by 7.15 latest. Obviously I know where you work 😉 but I think Angus council has the perfect system. Work an average 7 hours a day anytime between 7am and 7pm, giving staff time to do shopping or anything during the day, so long as their work is completed.

I moved to a 9 day fortnight a couple of months ago and I must say it’s great. Still on flexi so I can start early say 8ish and finish before 5. Really helps every 2nd weekend being a day longer. Probably also stops me using as much annual leave for longer weekends too.

A 4 day week would be the ideal but don’t fancy just short of 9hr days to be honest

My son works Tues-Thur in the office and Mon/Fri at home, my daughter works permanently from home and only goes in when necessary.

My old workplace called it that too, although not if you worked the Monday and Friday as well (as described by the poster) :greengrin

Wanting to get rid of something that either needs dismantling and taken to the tip or a special uplift required. You then post it on your local FB page and 99%of the time someone wants it and saves you the bother.

Swapping to a whistling kettle used on the hob after the electric one burnt out.

That sound triggers all sorts of pleasant memories.

Absolutely.

We had a massive corner sofa, £40 for a bulky uplift, Facebook marketplace free, disappeared within 3 days.

I was quoting a guy at work today who I know is a Hearts fans. I calculated a price for a product for him and with a 22% discount it came to £18.98 per pack. I reduced it down to £18.75.

Petty, not all that funny but it made me smile to myself.

Reminds me of doing a car boot sale in Edinburgh and one of the things we were selling was plant pots.

One guy asked me how much they were and I said (jokingly), "20p each, or four for a pound".

The guy said, "Oh cool, I'll take four then"... so I gratefully accepted the pound.

I think this one is both a pleasure (or it makes me laugh anyway) and a peeve tbh.

There is a thing on Facebook called 'Wetherspoons - The Game'. No idea how the algorithm decided it would be of interest to me but it did. Anyway the idea is people post a picture in a Wetherspoons with their table number and people send them drinks remotely using the Wetherspoons app.

It's gloriously predictable. You'll get a couple of young women, low cut tops, that pouty face that is obligatory in photos for women under 30 giving it 'newly single and out to drown our sorrows, anything appreciated' and dozens of sad old men slobbering and replying with 'looking lovely ladies, sent some shots', 'won't be single for long, have a pitcher' etc etc. Then you'll get a guy on his own 'just lost my job, my house burnt down, my dog died and my car got stolen, if anyone could spare a pint it would be amazing'. The replies are usually 'get a ****ing job you scrounger', 'what an embarrassment asking people to buy your drinks for you', 'get out the pub and sort your life out mate' etc etc.

It's the same in loads of social media groups actually. I'm in one for people bagging Munros and if an attractive girl asks something there will be dozens of replies by men falling over themselves to be helpful. A guys asks the same question you can guarantee a chunk of the replies, from men, will be 'if you need to ask that you shouldn't be in the mountains you idiot'.

It's an interesting and amusing look at how much some men can change when there is even the remotest chance a good looking woman will show them a bit attention.

I have recently taken up star gazing as a hobby. Always been interested in space anyway but really enjoying it. Just the peace and quiet on my own with my telescope, been really good for my mental health. Stress levels are way down and gives me an excuse to see more of the country going to different parks (especially the dark sky park in Galloway, amazing place).

From what I have read and heard from experience, plenty of legitimate transactions happen and are reciprocated regardless of gender.

I was in the one at the Omni Centre once where two guys at the next table were playing it and getting plenty of drinks. They couldn't finish what folk had sent them. There was some random stuff like milk as well. That was a while ago, though and whenever it comes on my Facebook feed now, it is largely what PB describes. TBF, I'm only seeing what the algorithm shows me, and it isn't coming up on the feed as often, so I might be missing the legitimate stuff.
