Just watched the club's YT clip of SOL. Dwight was belting the song out then runs over to the East jumping and fist pumping. IMO it says a lot about SDG, the coaching staff and the club, that a man of his age, experience and pedigree is clearly moved by it all. He's a class player to boot. I hope he doesn't retire.
I love him. He's really bought into our club. You can see every player really enjoys playing for Hibs. Looks like there's a great team spirit.
Absolutely. He could be happily retired after an excellent career with his body giving up on him but he's running about all over the place, as enthusiastic as anyone about Hibs and it's fantastic to see.Quote:

He's a cut above in his movement and touch. His control and lay off in the lead up to our goal v Dundee United was different class. He's also not just here for a jolly; guy works his socks off every week.
I thought he wasn’t like a man possessed when he came on yesterday. He was well up for it.
Think he appreciate what he has here at this stage of his career.
Agree with others, if his body can handle if I’d definitely give him another year, Hoilett too. Both are great professionals and good options to have off the bench.
Different class clever player and top finisher can't believe we have him
I’m gonna go against the grain here. I’m fairly sure both Gayle and Hoilett will be in decent money. I am not disputing what either bring to the party but my thinking is there must be players out there to contribute more for the money.

Both Gayle & Hoilett were excellent when they came on, although not entirely sure how Gayle didn't end up with a yellow card!
They both showed why they've played at a level way above Hibs. Gayle pulled one down from the sky beautifully out on the left wing and Hoilett's footwork late on down in the corner between the East & FF was sublime.
Great players to have around.
He puts a lot of younger footballers to shame with his work ethic and pressing considering his age and his body being knackered. I know he was only on for about 20 minutes but he ran himself into the ground for the cause. I doubt he's here for the money given the career he's had. He's here because he loves football and wants to make a impact.
I don't know about another year though. He's holding up well just now but another year might just be one too many. All depends on his wages and what kind of role he would be playing next season for me.

I think they both contribute a lot. Watch them (particularly Gayle) off the ball manage the game. Vs both hearts and Utd he was pivotal in us seeing the game out.Quote:

Gayle also very deliberately took as long as humanly possible to get back in his own half after the second goal, to the point the ref was actually pushing him over the line! He knew exactly what he was doing.
I think a lot of players who have come to Hibs down the years having not previously had much awareness of Scottish football (not saying that's the case with Gayle) have been really pleasantly surprised by their experience. Sauzee was perhaps the prime example but you can also see that guys who haven't hit the heights he did like, say, Liam Fontaine, become very attached to the club.
His influence is similar to what Grant Holt gave us. Fantastic movement on and off the ball, which defenders struggle with and often draws them out of position. Big games don't phase these guys as they have already been there and done it. Scores important goals as well as assists.
I am sure he is thinking of retiring. Hopefully we can get another veteran striker in after.
I couldn’t help but laugh when he came on, sprinted after someone and nailed them.
35 years old, played at the top level of football and has admitted he struggles to get rid of aches and pains. But his love of the game brings him to Hibs, he loves it and gets stuck right in.

IIRC earlier in the season Gayle suggested that the Hibs players in general were being too nice too each other and I've wondered a few times if Gayle's influence in the dressing room has helped change that to where we are now, more leadership?
You hear a lot about Hibs players/managers 'getting it' and 'not getting it' etc. Dwight Gayle 100% gets Hibs.
At the HibeesBuzz event Gayle said, despite all the clubs he has played for, he had never played in a derby before he came to us. He loved it. Wonder what he thought yesterday if he thought the atmosphere was good at the others.Quote:

Obviously age plays a part but I'd imagine too that only playing parts of games will help his healing process as well. It was many years ago, but when I first arrived over here I wasn't playing any games anymore and after a couple of months I realised just how many injuries I'd been carrying as nothing hurt anymore.
