Interesting development with Google confirming they have no option but to comply to the USA govts banning order which will effectively stop the Google functions like play store etc appearing on "future versions"
I literally just got a p30pro last week and it's great
I believe Huaweis consumer products have never been an issue - so is this straight politics?

The P9 and currently on the P20 pro - the cameras are fantastic, as well as an all round sound phone. Hopefully they sort out all these issues by the time I come round to upgrading again.

The best thing about Huawei phones is the battery life. Absolutely pisses all over Samsung and Apple.
The cameras are superb as well.
Great or not if this Sticks it could decimate there sales in the west
They are apparently the 2nd biggest smartphone seller behind Samsung so I'm guessing Google etc won't be delighted to lose them anyway

I've got Huawei it's an amazing phone battery life is fantastic compared to other phones I've had. Supposedly it is written I to Chinese law that every Chinese firm must submit all info they have to the government. This includes info about who your custo ers are and what messagez they send. My understanding is this would effectively give the Chinese govt access to all kinds of info about anyone who uses a Huawei device.
I may have picked that up wrong though.

I don't have a Huawei phone but a Xiaomi (by far the best value for money I've had). Even so, if every single thing I did on my phone was harvested and passed on to the Chinese government, there would be zero risk to national security. I suspect this will be the case for the vast majority of people.
For me, the thought of what Google/Android does with my data is far more sinister.

In what way are they more secure? I'm not talking about the OS itself as anything is less vulnerable to attack than windows, but rather the transmission of the data itself will be the same as all other phones I'd imagine. As well as using the same apps etc.Quote:

I always knew that computers running Apple or Linux systems are more secure than windows platforms but don't really know much about the phone side of things. On the car side, you really can't get better than an old Volvo estate - built like tanks they were!

Apple and *nix used to be less popular, therefore less targeted. Times have changed.
Apple gave up developing its own OS and ported to *nix.
The downside with iOS is that its tied to the hardware, and if Apple don't want to update your device then you're forced into buying a new device or you're stuffed.
Same with apps - Apple and co force the developers to update their apps for different screens/devices/OSs which mean some old apps - which are perfectly fine, never see the light of day again.
The update from iOS10 threw a lot of my most commonly used apps under the bus.
You can usually cram a new OS onto older hardware for windows and *nix. I dare say, where theres a will, theres a way for the apple devices, but that would involve jailbreaking them, which isn't supported.
Then like most OS developers, older OSs become unsupported.
I remember someone telling me about something they'd seen (may have been on Top Gear) where they were crashing old Volvos estates into modern little Peugeots that were designed to crumple.Quote:

Many years ago we ran a scrapyard and would stack cars on top of each other - open the doors (sellable), put a strap through and lift the cars into place. Only on Volvo's would the doors close as if nothing had happened. Nothing to do with modern encap regulations but if you're going roly poly in a car that's the one to buy!

Just took the opportunity presented by the slight depression in prices we have seen since this announcement to upgrade my already excellent P20 Pro Smartphone to a P30 Pro. Confident that this is all political bluster and Huawei will come out the other end stronger.
