Any thoughts on this one? Looks like classic internal Labour Party politics.

This has been brewing for years and as someone born, bred and still living in East Lothian, Moffat's not a patch on John Home Robertson as an MP. She's well known as someone who is out for herself and this has been the case since she was a councillor. AFAIK, most of her support is coming from the unions.
Still, it'll be to the benefit of the other parties if she stays as the Labour PPC so let's hope she survives!
The SNP beat Labour in the European vote there last year; that's one of the points that the local party is complaining about.
Whatever the poor woman's politics (and they are dire!) is she not entitled to some slack since she is recovering from a brain tumour?? (Who would wish that on anyone??)
I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but if it impacts on her ability to carry out a high profile job she shouldn't be doing the job.
She has been a woefully inept politician for East Lothian. I know people that have written to her, and she isn't even polite enough to respond. They have received a short standard response from her secretary.
I have never seen her out canvassing in East Lothian. She had the highest travel expenses of any MP a few years back. There is no doubt she is only in it for herself, and the accusations of bullying are quite simply pathetic.
As a constituent MP she hasn't been seen to be standing up for East Lothian, and any MP that ignores constituents and treats them with the contempt she does deserves the boot.
When I was 10 or 11 I went down to Downing Street with her and met Tony and Cherie Blair and had lunch there. That was fantastic but as I have got older and understand politics a lot more, it's clear that she is not a suitable candidate to be our MP, for many reasons already detailed. One of my good friends is a Labour member in East Lothian and some of the things he tells me are certainly stunning.
I hope she doesn't get deselected though, hopefully Andrew Sharp can pull it off.
:agree: I can imagine. She really is the perfect example of a politician who is in it for herself.
You're right as well in that if she remains the labour party candidate, the SNP are almost a stick on to win, which will be great for a much needed change in East Lothian.
She has been de-selected:agree: Glen Campbell reporting from Haddington with the local riff raff lobbing empty juice bottles at him:faf:
Seen Moffat more in the media this week than i have on the streets of Tranent during her tenure.
Anybody got a link or know where I can see Campbell's report from Haddy? I want to see if I recognise this 'local riff-raff!'
Iain Gray is now a "Coward"
Keep digging Anne. What an absolute fool. You've now successfully pissed off Iain Gray, Local Labour Party, Local Constituents(for years) as well as making an arse of yourself on national news.
Pension deal for selection row MP Anne Moffat
Quote:
An MP who was deselected by the Labour party after local activists accused her of incompetence could receive a pension worth tens of thousands of pounds.
Anne Moffat, who represents East Lothian, said she has a deal in place to retire due to ill health.
This is despite her arguing that she should be able to stand for the party in the next general election.
Ms Moffat, 51, could receive a pension of about £30,000 a year plus a one-off payment of £32,000.
She said she kept the deal secret so that her opponents in the constituency did not know she planned to step down.
One of the criteria for receiving an ill health pension from the Commons is that you can no longer perform the duties of an MP.
Anne Moffat secured her deal some time ago although she has argued that she should continue to represent Labour in East Lothian beyond the general election.
Ms Moffat suffered a brain haemorrhage last year but still fought against opponents in her local party who wanted her out.
She lost that battle when the party's national executive agreed to de-select her.
The ill health retirement, means she will be paid a pension which assumes she served as an MP until she was 65.
The exact details of Ms Moffat's agreement are not known.
The East Lothian constituency Labour party voted to deselect Ms Moffat as its candidate for the General Election, at a meeting in Haddington on 19 March.
Activists voted to drop her as a candidate by 130 votes to 59.
The MP has been locked in a bitter dispute with local party members. They accused her of incompetence and she said she had suffered intimidation and persecution.
She was elected to represent East Lothian in 2001.
Unbelievable. Didn't think she could get any lower, yet today she has managed. 9 years paying lip service to a job, complete contempt for her constituents and she now retires on a pension of £30k!! Nice work if you can get it.
Greedy, self righteous money grabbing ersehole. All she has done for our constituency is continually show the rest of Scotland that she is taking us for a ride with every single negative headline she makes.
Yesterday she tells voters to vote tory. Her actions of fighting against de selection even though she knew she wouldn't fight on has caused havoc for the local labour party forcing them to find a new candidate with weeks to go to the election.
How anybody can vote for a Scottish Labour candidate in May is beyond me after this shambles and the Stephen Purcell saga.
I'm finding some of these Labour Party downfalls far, far too pleasing; Geoff Hoon's in particular. The leader of the Ashfield council (Hoon's constituency) was on the radio the other day after the latest scandal and gave him the most fantastic dressing down. Transcription:
I would like to tell you I was shocked and surprised but frankly I wasn't. I'd have been more shocked and surprised if he'd said “you know what, I don't want this money I'm already a multi-millionaire. I want to devote the rest of my political career, such as it will be, to the working class people of Ashfield". That would have made me fall off my seat.
I was disgusted really. Here you've got a man, who's quite frankly a cold-blooded, unprincipled usurper of a once great political party and it stinks. But the real tragedy is that it's not just about Geoff. Here's a man who personifies an entire generation of middle class Labour MPs who've had absolutely no affinity with or understanding of the people they're supposed to represent.
Last May we had the same thing where we had the expenses row and in Nottinghamshire we had the county council elections and in the entire district of Ashfield only myself and one of my colleagues got back – just. Every single door you knocked on they said the same thing "I'll vote for you but I'm not voting for Geoff". Frankly, you couldn't defend it and I didn't even try. I just said "thank you" and walked off.
This is a man who really didn't care about the ordinary working class people in Ashfield, who was out for his own career. In a sense I don't blame Geoff for that. If you're a careerist what is the one thing that you're motivated by? Money and making money. Well that’s great if you're a butcher but you're a politician and particularly if you're a Labour politician you're supposed to working for the working class people that vote you in. I saw little of that in Geoff's time.
As I say my real issue now is not Geoff because he's announced he's going to resign anyway but soon the entire parliamentary Labour Party will be absolutely filled to the gunwales with this kind of person. It really needs review and reform from within and I'm really looking to the Prime Minister to sort this out.
If we carry on like this it will be the slow death of the Labour Party. It's like a black hole that's going to implode on itself.
Brown likes his politics dirty. Add to this that he is a megalomaniac, then however ineffective he is as a Prime Minister and was as Chancellor, it's a lethal combination.
Hoon is of course, a total fanbelt but it seems a bit of a "coincidence" that it was Hoon and Hewitt in particular who were hit by this sting.
Byers is a Blairite. I'm not sure what is said about him or what plots he's been involved in but no doubt like the rest of them, he's a scheming manipulative bawbag.
If the liberal left weren't in control of this country with their cotton wool, namby pamby political correctness fascism, these three traitors would be dragged out and shot at dawn... in public... then their families charged for the bullets...
I'd pull the trigger myself... etc etc.
