Name Mike McSherry, Secretary and general ‘dogs body’ for London Hibs
Birthplace/Date Edinburgh, 1962 in the Eastern General
Primary School St Mary’s Star of the Sea in Leith (with Yogi Hughes and Paul Kane) Paul won his first ever trophy in my six-a-side team
Secondary School St Augustines – I left in 1978
First Hibs match Can’t remember as I went when I was about 4 or 5 with my dad but the routine would have been stand outside the pub in Albert Place with a coke and bag of crisps until 10 to 3, then walk to Easter Road and arrive 5 minutes into the game. This went on for 7 more years before I could go on my own
How long a member of London Hibs Since 1991 when we had about 30 members
How did you find out about London Hibs Whilst up in Edinburgh for a game I bought one of their fanzines and joined when I returned south. Little did I know at the time that for my sins I would eventually be the editor of HHHT.
Favourite all time Hibs Player I loved watching Arthur Duncan. He took on defenders, was skilful and had great speed which impressed me no end – Paddy Stanton is also one of my most favourites as is Jimmy O’Rourke. Never had the pleasure of watching Joe Baker
Most memorable Game The Leeds game in 1970 something!! Great atmosphere, fantastic crowd, outstanding performance by Hibs but unfortunately, we lost on penalties.
How often do you get to games Not as often as I would like. I guess I get up for 3 or 4 games a season.
When did you leave Scotland? (If applicable) In 1978 to join the Army.
Why do you live in the South? After leaving the forces in 1990, I settled in the Berkshire area
Favourite English team Arsenal and Chelsea
Lowest moment following Hibs? The Dundee United game that saw us relegated to the 1st Division in 1998
Best Hibs goal? Keith Wright against Rangers in the Skol Cup semi-final
What is the best thing about being a Hibby? The history of the club and being able to wear green and white. Great, magical colours
Proudest moment following Hibs? The trip to Anderlecht and the league Cup final in 91.
How did you become a Hibby? In my blood and, as I lived in Leith, it was just not possible to have supported any other team. Since Meadowbank Thistle moved, there is no other team in Edinburgh anyway!
