Purchase of Easter Road, a fourteen game unbeaten run, a Scottish Cup Final and the emergence of Harry Swan make season 1923/24 a significant one in the history of our great club.

In the 1923 close season Hibernian finally achieved its long held aim of purchasing the ground from the Trinity Hospital Committee and that news together with the fact that the club had refused several offers from other clubs for its better players had supporters of the greens singing the praises of the men in charge at Easter Road.

Hibs reach the Scottish Cup Final and Hearts are defeated on a regular basis as a truly magnificent squad is brought together by manager Alex Maley.

When season 1921/22 got underway Alex Maley had 22 players in his squad but given that Hibs were running a reserve team as well as a senior one it was spreading things a little thin should injuries occur. Maley was known to have his eye on a few players and would sign some as the season progressed but it was not a happy start to the league campaign for the greens as Alex Maley took Hibs to Parkhead to face the side managed by his brother Willie and suffered a 3-1 defeat in front of around 15,000 fans.

At last the war in Europe was over and the people of Edinburgh and Leith set about trying to get their lives back to normal. Hibernian had continued to play throughout the hostilities but a lot of work was now needed to get them back in a position where they could challenge for the top honours again. The world had certainly changed and so had Scottish football as sectarianism reared its ugly head for the first time.

With the war still raging on in Europe a number of football clubs went out of business whilst others withdrew from the league but Hibs boss Dan McMichael, who would not live to see the fruits of his labours, worked valiantly to put a Hibs team on the park whilst Glasgow Rangers did their best to kill Hibs off.

War raged on in Europe and thousands of men were losing their lives in the trenches but it was not only on foreign fields that men were dying. Inconsistency dogs a Hibs side that is still reeling from the tragic death of James Main although slowly but surely manager Dan McMichael starts to build a side that is capable of challenging for the major honours.

Season 1910/11 opened with a win over St Bernards in the first round of the Dunedin Cup and 24 hours later they faced Hearts at Easter Road in a match organised for the benefit of James Mainís family with all gate receipts going to them. It was a grand gesture by the Tynecastle Club but their charitable deeds did not extend to the game itself which they won 2-0.
