What a brilliant video that is. The fact his first thought was to wonder what his dad would have made of it got me. You can see the emotion and pride. There is no better recognition that being honored by your own people.

Hopefully the sales for the game on 9th July pick up a bit so he gets the recognition he deserves on the day.

Was lucky to see Pat play at the very end of his time as a Hibs player, what I remember most is the anger around Easter Road when he was allowed to leave for Celtic.

I can't think of a more deserving recipient of an honour like this and even more fitting in our 150th year that he is a direct descendent of the club's first captain and was himself club captain in our 100th year.

Hopefully we will see a few more folk buy tickets for the RWE game on the back of this, coincidentally bought mine this morning.

Those of us old enough and lucky enough to have seen Pat play saw a Rolls Royce of a player who led our club by example on and off the field. Nothing exciting really but Pat pulled on the Seahaven hotel top in a friendly when I represented a local team Joppa hibs, even in his 50s he was fitter than me, he was playing in a left midfield role and I was right back, he schooled me for 45 mins before he was taken off to save me anymore embarrassment.

We won the game though.

I played alongside Pats Nephew Mark Stanton for a while and he was a very useful midfielder too, Marks Dad, Pats Brother coached us for a spell too. They are a very talented footballing family and Pat was the cream that rised to the top.

I love the way they gave the news to Mr. Hibs. It was really moving. It was a beautiful decision by the club. Contrast it with his exit to Celtic!

I was devastated when he was sold to Celtic. As was he. Of course, like the rest of the support, I had no idea he hadn't asked for the transfer and that he was as shocked as I that Stein and Turnbull had done a deal sending him to Parkhead. Ah well, at least he got some silverware he wouldn't otherwise have had. No Hibs fan could have begrudged him that. It does make me wonder, though, if Eddie Turnbull had any concept of man-management skills. It was no way to treat any player, never mind a club legend.

Eddie was what is euphemistically known as "old school" in his concept of management. And in that era players were little more than the property of the clubs, bought and sold at the owners' whims.

I heard Pat talking about the move a couple of years ago and he said he had no ill feeling about it now even if it hurt him at the time. He wasn't getting on with Eddie and he enjoyed his time at Celtic and the chance to bag a few trophies.

Incidentally I used to work with an older Celtic fan who lamented they never signed Pat earlier. Said he was a standout in the deeper role he played when they did sign him and he was convinced they'd have won another European Cup if they had got him a few years earlier. Said he would have been the missing piece of the puzzle.

Very emotional when I saw the video of him opening his letter. He is Mr Hibernian, lucky to have seen him play.

Its a great video, and he is genuinely overwhelmed, thinking about his Dad.

It was thank to Pat Stanton, mostly, and a Hibs supporting uncle that worked in Peacock Inn where Pat seemed to be a lot that I followed Hibs rather than my Fathers choice, and 10 of his 13 brothers, of Celtic. It was always a bone of contention between us, and I think he thought I would switch as I hit my teens and Celtic had whacked us quite a few times. I like to think he secretly admired I stuck to my guns and didn't.

What about the Famous Five Stand, would you prefer it to be the north?

A fitting tribute to a class act and true gentleman.

Congratulations to Pat and kudos to Hibs for the recognition.

Well deserved and all that, but I’m not so keen on it.

Never liked the idea of stands being named after individuals.

Sorry, not meaning to cause any offence or upset anyone, just my thoughts.

Each to their own, it’s not something that really bother me either way and I doubt many if any would take offence at your opinion. The one thing I will say is that it’s nicer in my opinion when the recipient is still alive and can be proud to see it happen.

Hibs should be doing more signage for FF stand and a large Hibernian FC signage on side of all sides of stadium for passing fans. Ideally that lights up at night.

Hopefully rename the south stand and West stand too in future.

Can't think of a better decision from my time watching Hibs, very fortunate to have seen him play, a lot, true leader on the pitch and one of the greatest Hibernians.

It wasn't so long ago we would have cocked something like this up, but now things have changed (since that wee fake tanned prick was binned) ANYWAY, we are back on the right path and this is class and well on our way from misery to happiness today.

Well done to all those involved.

Love, love, love this. Hugely merited.

How good does the stand look named like that?

I'm guessing this was a relatively recent decision? I ask as my season ticket still says East!

Not before time, fortunate to see Pat play for Hibs from a young age to leaving for a stint with the smellies out west.
For younger ones who never seen him play, think it was Tommy Docherty manager of Scotland at the time said, Pat was a better Player than Bobby Moore (Moore was regarded as the best defender in Britain at the time with only Beckenbauer above him, in world rankings)
That is how good this real Hibs Legend was.

Always though they were missing a trick by not lighting up signage on the roof of the stands, so you can see from aircraft landing at Edinburgh. (Then also open a Hibs shop in the Airport)

I've just picked up his book off the shelf and read a couple of chapters. Pat is still banned from the touchline, will he be allowed to have his name on the stand ? He was banned for a year by the SFA while Hibs manager but resigned before serving the ban. He never paid the $500 fine either. "The Quiet Man" by Simon Pia.

Well deserved, great tribute from the club.

Well deserved, great tribute from the club. The stand has absolutely nothing to do with Pat Stantons historical SFA issues and there would be no reason for him to be on the touchline pre and post match either, even as club ambassador I dont think the SFA could do a jot.

Well deserved, great tribute from the club.

He can only serve the ban if he registers for a new club according to the SFA disciplinary rules

I hope he's not opening a sparsely populated stand - ticket sales very poor so far.
