(Non Hibs Post) Buying English Premier League Tickets

Looking to tap into the knowledge of folk in here. I've lived out here in California for 13 years, when I was back home it was just Hibs, I never attended an English Premier League game. I've got a friend out here (American) who has booked a family trip to London over New Years and she wants to take in a game. Preferably Tottenham as that's her team, but at the same time if cost/ease was better for another London team or even a Championship game, she'd be open to that.
She asked me yesterday for recommendations on where to buy tickets and I told her I'd only really be able to help with the Scottish games not English.

So, any help to how she can go about getting tickets? I done a quick Google search and a 3rd party site called 'SeatPick' had them for around £100. Is this a good legit site or is there better? She said through the Tottenham official site she was seeing £550 per ticket for a game against Sunderland over New Years. I told her to absolutely not spend that as there must be cheaper sites!

I don't think Spurs are selling standard tickets for any league matches yet. £550 sounds like it's for the hospitality tickets, which are on sale at the moment.

You can only really get Spurs tickets with a One Hotspur membership, which is £50 a year. Spurs never really sell tickets to non-members, outside of the odd European home game against smaller teams. Your friend would need 1 membership for each ticket required, and with tickets starting from £40, it's no wonder 3rd party sites can sell them for £100+. Somewhere like SeatPick is probably reputable enough to trust, but you aren't buying direct, so small level of risk. Buying the One Hotspur membership and ticket maybe works out similar / slightly cheaper, but is probably slightly more complex than making 1 transaction on SeatPick or an alternative. Direct from Spurs is safe as it's official.

Not bought tickets for any other Premiership club but I believe a lot of them operate the same way. They are big enough to charge just to have the 'privilege' to buy a ticket.

Buying tickets for premiership games is a nightmare which is ironic considering it’s basically just a tourist league now.

You normally have to pay to become a member to be allowed the opportunity to buy a ticket, you probably won’t get one though as other people with other types of memberships will get first dibs, you then need to wait on the public resale and hope to get seats together which basically never happens. The only option you’re left with is paying fortunes for the unreliable tout websites that sometimes work but also gets horrible reviews.

I’ve tried a few times for various clubs and that’s nearly always been my experience. The only exception to that was West Ham which was surprisingly easy a few seasons back when they were doing well and were playing Chelsea.

If anyone has got other experiences for different clubs I’d be keen to hear it as I’ve all but given up on taking my boy to games in England now, looking to go to Germany or Italy in December instead.

Someone elsewhere has told me about the P1 Travel site. Looking now and looking for the game she mentioned vs Sunderland. €199 for 'Travel Club Corner' - Lounge access, E-Ticket, Padded seat, half time drink, small bites. I'll put this to her. Anyone else ever used that site before?

I was going to say similar to Bingo about West Ham. A friend is an Arsenal fan living abroad and wanted to see them but ended up getting tickets for West Ham instead.

P1 Travel looking to be very very reasonable for a West Ham ticket. Only €69 for the game vs Brighton on December 30th.

Best bet for the ‘in demand’ English Premiership teams is through somebody with a club membership. That’s how I went to see Liverpool v Fulham last season.

StubHub has tickets listed for that Spurs game vs Sunderland starting as low as $114. That's a pretty big and reputable site out here, I wonder if that could be a safe option she could explore...

It was me that posted it on the FB page. I used it for tickets for Man Utd. No problems whatsoever. Easy transaction and tickets were Emailed about 48 hours before the game. I was made aware of the site by a friend that's used it loads. He's had hospitality at the San Siro, tickets for Real Madrid and more - including games in England.

I used StubHub for NFL tickets (in the states) a few years ago. Once again really good experience with buying from them. Sometimes there's high fees that increase the price a fair bit but I used them for tickets to 2 games and got the tickets no problem.
The thing with StubHub is they don't release the money to the seller until after the event to ensure there wasn't any issues with the tickets. Just gives another layer of buyer protection.

I’ve used Viagogo for MLB tickets in England twice now and had no issues, they get a bad rep but they also don’t release money to the seller until after the event. Never had a bad experience with them but unfortunately a lot of scalpers and professional touts on there charging crazy prices for everything.

I'm a One Hotspur member (3rd year in a row now) and what The Ginger Hibee says is spot on.

It was £45 for me and £25 for my little one to join per season. This gets you access to any seats that season ticket holders resell in the 3 weeks roughly running up the game, when the Spurs seat exchange opens. You need one member per ticket.

Seats will become available for most games other than Arsenal. I managed to get two v Liverpool when Spurs were flying under Ange in his first season. They were main stand seats that cost 95 quid each. Last season I got tickets for West Ham game behind the goal - also excellent seats -they cost £74 each. There are cheaper areas but those do seem to be harder to get. For a Sunderland game over New Year I'd expect there would be plenty of resale seats available in the weeks running up to the game. Loads usually come up in the days running up to the game actually. It is a bit of a palaver but you know you are getting legit tickets through the club, and prob a bit cheaper than seatpick overall (I imagine $114 for seatpick wont include the extortionate admin fee either).

For Championship, Millwall and QPR both have a couple of games over late Dec/early Jan period. I got tickets easily for Millwall before and was lined up to go to a QPR game this season but my London trip fell through . Tickets would have been straightforward to get and much cheaper than Spurs obviously. The Spurs experience is brilliant though I have to say, so if you don't mind paying the extra and dealing with the extra admin - it is def worth it IMO!

I used stubhub for concert tickets. Paid for them 5 months in advance., booke hotel for 2 nights, stubhub informed me 2 days before the gig they weren’t available. You pay your money you take your chance

We got tickets for Millwall a couple of seasons ago. We did hospitality and it was really reasonable too.

Use StubHub for Jets and Yankees tickets in the states and have never had a problem.

Be aware that StubHub are a different operation in the US than UK

I work in ticketing and honestly can’t say I’d recommend buying from any of them. For example I know for a fact people are listing England v India cricket tickets for seats that don’t exist or tickets that they have not received. Recent legalisation changes mean that the seat number has to be listed, but there’s no verification for that so completely made up.

For what it’s worth I’ve seen P1 mentioned on the thread and we’ve had some dealings with them so they’re genuine at least.

I used StubHub when I lived in London 10 years ago and it was great. Got West Ham, Spurs and QPR (prem team at the time) tickets through it with no bother and pretty sure they were relatively cheap.
