Does anyone know if taxis can drop off on Waverley Bridge - or do you have to drop at Market Street or Calton Road entrances instead.
Trying to avoid using lifts/steps with 4 suitcases if possible

I don't know but I did do the 4 suitcases thing recently and with a lift just inside the Market Street entrance it wasn't too bad.

Waverley Bridge is open to taxis/buses so I can't see why you can't be dropped off there.

We can drop off at all places you mention, also at the Waveley Steps next to Balmoral. Taxis have the right to drop off on a bus stop, double yellows etc, as they are part of the official transport of Edinburgh.
Isn’t it only blocked at princess street ? I’d imagine Waverley market shops will get access for stock

Why do cars or vans never get ticketed at the Balmoral.

Got dropped off by the Airport Bus 100 on Waverley Bridge 2.30am Tuesday morning not a Cab in sight in Market Street apart from one old wise owl sitting on Waverley Bridge who switched on his yellow light when he saw two auld dafties struggling off the bus with their suitcases
Never been so glad to see a taxi

Depends who they belong to, vans have to do deliveries and most cars are either punters from the hotel or chauffeur cars, unfortunately the Balmoral being an important hotel is in a bad place for parking.
You are allowed a 5 mins period to load, so the wardens give you that.

Cheers folks. We'll get the driver to drop us at Waverley bridge so we can just wheel down the slope (where opponents lose all hope).
I'll check the platform first mind you!

They can’t get into it to stop for all the black cabs using it as a rank.

Black cabs use it because of the hotel and Waverley Steps, I never use it as too much hassle.

It’s a loading bay not a rank causes chaos for everyone.

Everyone knows that but taxis will always try their luck there for the 2 reasons I gave, the hotel especially don't mind as they have on tap taxis for their punters, as I said too much hassle TBH.

Two blue/silver Ford transits vans are parked there most of the time along with cars, I get it’s a bad place for parking but so is the rest of the city but the Balmoral seems to be unwalkable for traffic wardens who never pay attention to any vehicles outside, it causes chaos and a hotel should not be getting special treatment.

As an ex hotel Security manager I disagree. 😀
Admittedly I had the luxury of a better parking situation outside of the Caley for high profile or VIP drop offs, but knowing the SM of the Balmoral very well I know he appreciates the relaxed approach to parking as would I. 😀

I’m taking it that lorries go down the ramp for deliveries or am I imagining that but if so it would be the perfect place if it could be developed to have a safe entrance for the privileged folk, that would be better for the SM surely. :greengrin

Not sure but can’t take folk in through the loading bay, they want the grand concierge red carpet welcome by the GM 😀
Only Kylie ever came in through the loading bay during my time at the Caley. 😂
Back on topic……… why was the Princes Street end of Waverley Bridge closed to traffic in the first place?

So we can use our passes, that seems fair for that privilege.
