View Full Version : Youan....

I don't get it. Just saw his Instagram bouncing around at full time with the massive flag, smile on his face, also shared Sunshine On Leith and was obviously part of the lined up huddle. Even made it on the bench.... but was unused even though we made a raft of changes.
Recent weeks he's apparently been available but he's not even made the bench. That being said today didn't look like a angry player, a player leaving etc.

So yeah, I'm just a tad confused. Are we going to see Youan here with us next season or was him celebrating today the last time we'll see him grace the Easter Road turf?..

Almost as if he’s a decent guy who does actually work hard and is happy here but has been injured. Who’d have thought?

This. Injury has been one of those that he’s not been able to shake & he’s had setbacks

I hope he is fit and here next season. If he moves on he leaves with my best wishes. Provided some great moments and memories over his time at Hibs.

Never bought into the conspiracy theories on here about Elie having a bad attitude in refusing to play , faking injuries etc , my main reason is David Gray who to my knowledge hasn’t said anything negative about the player .

Even when he was getting criticised for the keepie uppies Gray defended him . If there were issues I don’t think we’d have seen him in the squad against Sevco .

There is clearly more to it than that. We don’t even get updated on him as an injured player anymore then he suddenly appears on the bench.

It’s all very odd.

He also said the club couldn’t find anything wrong with him, he used him at CP in the cup and not again since only making the bench twice, he may not be dodging work and battling to get out but let’s no kid ourselves it’s a normal injured player situation something isn’t right behind the scenes with the guy

He hasn’t been injured for the last couple of weeks, he just wasn’t selected for the match day squad because nobody deserved to be dropped.

Surely there is a clause in his contract that says after XYZ appearances a fee needs to be released to his former club. I'd sell him tbh.

Youan won’t get a better club than us. Perhaps he’s realised this and is trying to get back in the picture.

Can guarantee he plays at a higher level, hopefully after another year with us though. Very talented player and with a good attitude by all accounts despite the naysayers.

He and Vente will be sold, not loaned, in the summer hopefully. Youan's contributed next to nothing all season and we need a player that's more reliable. He's scored 6 league goals in the last 2 seasons. He's also just not as good as some of our fans seem to think he is. We have and we can get better.

I said on another post a few weeks ago i’d keep him next season and let him leave when his contract ends if we dont get good money for him this window, I think his former team are also due a percentage so if its not atleast 500k he could be worth more to us if he performs for us in Europe. Look at the game against Luzern for example, his contribution probably got us a few 100k in prize money. He’ll need to perform to get a good move next summer, get him fit and firing

Bit of a maverick - made me laugh his flag waving yesterday.

Thought he may get a few mins yesterday but didn’t.

Would be good to keep him and get him playing but does feel like he’s away.

I guess it all depends what other clubs offer for him too.

Malonga was a prime example of moving on and realising the size of Hibs once he left and how well he was liked. Some regrets I can imagine as the grass isn’t always greener !

From a footballing perspective he would be a good option to have in the squad next season if fit and motivated. Personally I’d rather just draw a line under him and continue to sign players that are drama free and don’t cause as much confusion or speculation, some of it unwarranted some of it merited.

A good option on his day, however he is replaceable.

I just don’t think Gray would be as constructive in some of his comments about the player if there was any issues about him trying to dodge work or faking injuries. Maybe some injuries are harder to detect than others , wasn’t Boyles one only detected later on too ? …

You get some football players who will run through a brick wall to play and contribute to their team, giving 100% whilst on the pitch. We've all seen them and they are generally adored by their faithful fans. IMO Nicky Cadden comes into that category this season. He has had a facial knock requiring a mask for many games after, plus a slight hamstring tear that prevented him from starting many games in the final push for 3rd place. Due to Obita's recent form there was no rush to get him back into the starting line-up, but you can see that he was desperate to get back into the team. SDG selected him, as he knows what he gets from Nicky Cadden.

Youan had a bad injury at the start of the season, when making a challenge he shouldn't have made. When he came back, I felt his contribution was poor, but he wasn't alone in that assessment. But, when played further forward in a front two and being relieved of the need to focus on the more defensive aspects of the game, I felt his contribution was really good although I was frustrated by him choosing the wrong option at times. The timing of his 2nd injury at Tiny impacted the team slightly, as there were games when he could have made the difference. It does seem odd to me that a toe injury has kept him out of the team for so long, but I feel that SDG has managed the situation similar to the way he managed Manneh, preferring to select players who are 100% match fit and knows he can rely on.

It will be interesting to see what the summer brings. With 1 year left on his contract, I would not be surprised if Hibs are looking to sell. However, if we can get Youan playing more reliably at a good standard then he could be a real asset next season, especially in Europe.

Been said in the past by a few that starting both Boyle and Youan means compromises in selection/set-up and on the evidence since December with Youan out and Boyle back on top form (and here for sure next season), I'd be tempted to sell but maybe not until the January window. Whilst this will likely reduce the sale price, maybe not by much given that his value will have dropped over this season anyway due to his injuries and lack of games. We'll also need as big and as effective a squad as possible to see us through Europe to Christmas (hopefully!).

I don’t think Gray would take any nonsense either though if some of the rumours about the player attitude not being right in him refusing to play , faking injury etc …

If any of that was truth I really don’t think he’d have picked him for the bench for the last game either. As I said more times than not when Gray has spoken about Youan it’s been fairly positive with no hints of any major problems with him or his attitude…

Gray’s nobody’s fool and I’m quite sure if there was issues then he would have dealt with them in an entirely different way .

The problem with Elie is he’s now 26. He’s fast running out of time to be more than just “potential” and not end up “wasted talent”.

The little we’ve seen of him this year, he’s been very good. If he’s with us next season then he needs to be playing a lot and playing consistently well.

Might seem harsh but it’s also where he is in his career.

I think him moving on, would be best for all involved.

Hes clearly an excellent player when he's on it. There's no doubt about that.

The doubts come around his commitment and attitude. There's nothing to put them to bed either way either.

I think if Hibs can sell him in the summer, hopefully we'll get decent money and he'll get a move to kick on.

Good luck to the lad whatever happens because he's clearly a good player.

The problem with Elie is his decision making

If he could do the right things in the correct order at the right time we would have a world class player on our hands and he would be playing for Les Blues

I am sure SDG and his team are aware of his potential

Opposition fans up here are scared of him in full flow and in the mood

Aye, same.

Love watching him in a Hibs shirt, but just seems inevitable that he'll leave this summer. Only managed 15 games this season, 930 minutes.

Think his 10 goals and 10 assists last season was underappreciated though, in a brutal Hibs team.
