Had hoped a new contract would be signed, but extention triggered is excellent.

Excellent. A shot in Europe for Boyle, couple of group stage goals after finishing the 3rd last season.. It would be the perfect sail off into the Aus sunset

Brilliant news! Our team would be much weaker without Boyler, a very hard man to replace.

Great news. Boyler's got the x factor, such an important player for us.

He will get his 100 goals for Hibs. Back to his best after recovering from all those injuries

the timing of that was superb and well timed
Excellent news! Now follow it up by hitting the 100 goal mark tomorrow & signing off our season with a victory against the Huns in the Leith sunshine 🌞

Makes sense for all involved, although I'd have preferred to keep him on a two year deal.
Boyle is still playing at a high level so we benefit, he's on a good wage for another year so he and his family benefit, there's the possibility of a testimonial for additional benefit and he has plenty of time to plan any move to Australia.

Great news. Would be impossible to replace 19 goals and 10 assists next season.
100 goals tomorrow would be nice, but next season will be fine.

Absolutely delighted - he’s so important and would have been really gutted if tomorrow was his last game after his best season for us. Now get Bushiri done!

That's more than 1 goal every minute.

His form since the turn of the year has been brilliant.
At the level he was just before he moved to Saudi.
Great he is staying and key for us to be a success at home and in Europe next season.

I wonder if there was a condition that the clause had to be activated before the end of the season, hence the timing today.
Absolute no brainer!! Well done Hibs, now onto Rocky!!

Up there with some the very best servants to Hibernian FC. Fully deserves the extra year, and crack at that 100 goal tally

Did you think Hibs wouldn’t take up the option?

Did you think Hibs wouldn’t take up the option?
I dont, I think it was either an extension(the option) or a new 1 year deal, depending on final league position

Did you think Hibs wouldn’t take up the option?
It seemed a no brainer but we were getting close enough to the end of season for some alarm bells to start ringing. Delighted its done now.

Indeed. I'm pleasantly happy about this, but not surprised. Biggest no brainer going

Great news. Had a few ups and downs since he came back from Saudi, but how can you argue with his contribution this season :aok:

I thought he'd want to go to Australia and I thought Hibs wouldn't have forced him to stay.
Hopefully he wanted to stay.

Did anyone think he’d be such an important player for us when we got him on loan all those years ago?

Pretty sure he's said publicly a few times he wants to stay this season.

Probably reading wayyyyy too much into it. But a bit weird Boyle hasn't reposted Hibs announcing the year extension?
I'm reading way too much into it, amn't I? Especially after him saying the ball was in Hibs court.

No, because he was rubbish then.

Would have preferred a 2 year deal, but a new contract would probably have resulted in less wages.
We’ll worry about the future after next season, but delighted he is staying for next season at least.
Difficult to think of who we could afford to replace him with as he has, and remains an immense player for us.

Forgetting a moment of what Martin brings around the training ground etc
Based solely on his numbers this year, it's a massive extension
He's really thrived in a 2 up top - delighted he will be around until 2026

A Boyle hat-trick today and he'll be the SPFL equal top goalscorer with Dressers, as long as Dressers doesn't score or Maeda and Murray don't score more than one.

No, because he was rubbish then.
He wasn't rubbish but he was nowhere near the player he is now. I think he improved a lot under Neil Lennon, which I think they both deserve huge credit for.
IMO he is well up there with the club legends.
To answer the original question, I don't think anyone knew. We definately got the better end of that deal.

it's an absolute no brainer to sign him up, the 1 year probably suits him as he can get a final contract somewhere else..

Remember he has mentioned how Mrs B being captain of Ladies is important - Next Year could be a big year with Europe for them as well.... now Men have massive chance of group Euros surely nothing down under can compete with that
