Just wanted to post this in recognition to hibs and to Joe Newell for helping a hibs fan in hospital. My Niece is an Occupational Therapist in the Stroke ward in RIE and she reached out to me to ask if there was a possibility of a message from the hibs team to the patient to lift his spirits.
I dont know anyone personally but I provided her with a couple of contacts who could help or advise as explained that as hibs are at the business end of the season things could be a bit difficult, but alas and not really a surprise to me but someone from hibs contacted her very promptly and arranged for Joe Newell to surprise visit him in the ward with his family around his bedside.
My Niece was on holiday and was not on the ward but the feedback she received was when Joe turned up the patient asked “who are you” 😄 his family reminded him that Joe was our club captain, I think it was because he turned up in a red t shirt and pair of jeans and not his hibs strip 🤭
I hope this made that hibs fans day and lifted his spirits.
Top class to whoever at hibs arranged this 👍👏

Read something not so long ago that Newell does voluntary work in the hospital weekly. Just off his own back, not connected to the club I don’t think.

You can tell from his co-commentary that Newell is a top guy. No wonder he is so well liked and respected within the club. Not surprised to read these stories about him.
We spoke to his other half in Luzern in the pub after the game for a bit, she was also a really nice person.
Can see Newell making a good manager one day.

Yet a few keep on their agenda against him, ignoring his part in our turn around, and more importantly ignoring how all the other players and manager speak about him. Its especially galling as people stick the boot in when he is probably having the worst time of his career with this injury and missing the good times. He will be feeling that I have no doubt, its what players exist for, and you can tell he cares.
I sadly don't think he will play every week next year, as we hopefully improve our squad and he gets another year older, but I have no doubt he will still be very important player to have around and will contribute to any success we have, if he can get back to near his best, and if you are looking for succession plans you would hope David Gray is seeing what he can do off the park. I agree it looks like he may have what it makes for good coach, but only time will tell on that one.

Joe Newell is forever being a class act off the pitch and very capable on it when fit.

Was on Hibs tv comms last night. Apologised to cliff at the end but said he had to get down to the pitch with the rest of the team.

He was different class on co-comms last night. Clear as day how much he cares for our Club. He was buzzing when the Celtic score kept being updated by Clifff 😂

Joe is exactly the type of person we need around hibs, the amount of community work he does in his own time with Children & Adults is absolutely outstanding.
Not to forget the guy absolutely loves being here and absolutely loves hibs.
He is exactly the type of human being and sportsmen we want the next generation to be looking up to.
Also thought him and cliff were a brilliant double act on comms last night.
He also convinced his pal Dwight to come to the club. As if I didn't love him enough already 😁

Anyone else hear the noise he made when Cliff told him celtic were winning 4-1. Put me right off my dinner 😆.

Joe is a fantastic ambassador for the club and was a perfect person to step up into the role left behind by Paul and Lewy imo.

Joe Newell is Hibs as **** and seems like a great guy to boot. No wonder a former club captain in SDG selected Joe for the role. Can’t wait to see him back fit and part of the squad again.

Thought it was funny after the last derby when he said to the camera outside the changing room. Up the Hibs you know the rest :greengrin

Have always liked him as a player and have never quite got the grief he sometimes gets on here. I absolutely loved that wee video of him that turned up before the derby, that's the attitude towards Hearts I want to see from all our players :greengrin
Maybe we can improve on him as a player, but I doubt we'll see many that are as respected by his teammates or who buy into the club, or the local community, as much as he has.

When I first saw Joe at East Stirling in the league cup in 2019 I thought he was too soft and would never make it at Hibs.
How wrong was I?
Delighted for him and hope he's ready to go for next season as club captain. :aok:

Can't we just leave this as a positive thread, lots of other threads to kick our captain when he is down. This place amazes me.
