View Full Version : Some stats to Hibs incredible form

Obviously I don't have enough work to do at the office so been entertaining myself looking at some stats this run of form has produced. The unbeaten run and unbeaten league run were obviously well documented. Equalling the club record for consecutive unbeaten league games feels generational. We are still on a fine unbeaten run at Easter Road and won our last 8 at the Leith San Siro. Here's a few more eyebrow raising stats this team have produced during this run of form:-
From 8th Dec 24 to date we would be top of the league having taken more points from our last 19 league games than Celtic have having played a game more (20) and Rangers two games more (21). 2 points ahead of Celtic and 5 ahead of Rangers. A period accounting for over half the league games played so far this season.
We have had the best points per games ratio since 27 November '24 to date. This has been over 21 games (60% of league matches played this season). Not just title contention form but leading the race over that period.
47 points taken from our last 21 games. Rangers have taken 45 points from their last 23 games in comparison.
We are above Rangers in the form table from end of October, a point better off over our last 26 league games (75% of league matches played so far this season).
It really has been the most incredible turnaround in a Hibs team in my lifetime.
Massive well done to all.

One that interests me is that if we beat St Mirren then we will have beaten all other SPL teams in one season. Not sure how often that's been done by teams outside the old firm.

It's been a fantastic run of form, loved every minute, but it shows how difficult it would be to ever challenge the OF. We would need to maintain it for a whole season. Virtually impossible.

What’s mad is how close we were to getting results in a load of those games early season that went against us. Bar a couple of really poor performances, we could easily have had similar form over most of the season.

If (and I know it's a very big if) we were to beat Celtic on Saturday, then we'll have won away to Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.
There can't be many seasons we've done that, certainly not in my lifetime.

if we beat Celtic and win our home game against Rangers, we would have won home and away to…
Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Motherwell,

If Smith had been in goals from the first game of the season, I’m convinced we’d have been sat in second right now.

All those points dropped from a winning position in the final 10 minutes of games early in the season would have us in 2nd place I'm sure.

Be interesting to see the league table of games were only 80 minutes!!

What a journey Gray has taken us on this season.
Some of these stats are incredible and no one could have comprehended this 6 months ago.
Just need to see this out, finish 3rd and see where it takes us.

If we had beaten Dundee and St Mirren early season we would've been a point ahead of The Rangers and probably playing them for a Champs League qualifier spot up for grabs. :greengrin

To be fair, you’re taking a handful of those early season results being different to have been chasing Rangers going in to these last few games. When you think of the points dropped in that early part of the season, including at Ibrox where we should have taken something, it does make you wonder.

Agreed. Nice to dream but our great 17 unbeaten run is a product of our terrible start / bad luck. To maintain a season-long challenge to the OF for money-spinning CL places is doomed to fail for so many reasons.

The 2-3 injury time collapse at Tannadice, the draw with united at home when they were handed a ridiculous penalty right at the end, the draw with hearts when we should have been out if sight before falling asleep at a late throw-in, the injury time penalty at kilmarnock that cost us another two points... that's 9 points right there and we could go on and on

There's so many ridiculous examples of games we dropped daft points in. Even during our good run we dropped a couple of howlers away - St Mirren, Ross County and St Johnstone were all draws were we played poorly in but could have taken 9 instead of 3 points.

And Kilmarnock again! Another injury time equaliser gifted to them at Rugby Park after we played well

I'm sure it's probably been covered, but I'm sure the amount of points we've dropped from winning positions would have had us something along the lines of 2 points in front of them going into the game where we beat them 2-0 at Ibrox.

Aye, but somewhere there's a killie fan going " if we hadn't conceded from our own corner v hibs, that's three points".
Every team in the league has those what ifs.

But what if you deduct the points we've won from losing positions?

True mate. I know.
Still, when Mcinnes comes out after and says that's the best Hibs team he's seen for a while and showered us with praise... it makes that particular what if very frustrating

This is totally true and it highlights this bizarre notion that fans seem to think that if one thing happens differently then everything else will just be the same (apart from the one thing) e.g if Killie hadn't conceded that goal they'd have gone on to win 1-0, which is actually highly unlikely.
If Killie don't concede that goal the entire game is played out differently as the ball doesn't go back to the centre circle. It could feasibly have ended up 5-0 to Hibs.
People here seem to be assuming that we'd still have had this amazing run if we'd also had a good start to the season which is just fantasyland. Things only started to change when we were forced into making changes to personnel and systems because of how bad things were. If we'd had an average start, we might just have continued being average all season.

I honestly don't know, how many points have we picked up from losing positions?

Incredible turnaround - but (rather than start another thread) how did we do it?
Change in formation but…
Stopping crosses coming into the box
A Soft center in the middle
Failing to take our chances
Used to be common themes - how was that turned around ?
