Scotsman had a list of managers at each SPFL clubs over the past decade. Just shows that most clubs have gone through periods when they've recruited and sacked managers, with the obvious exception of Celtic. Not many long-term managers on the list with the exception of Derek McInnes at Aberdeen.

Five managers:
Aberdeen: Derek McInnes, Stephen Glass, Jim Goodwin, Barry Robson, Jimmy Thelin
Celtic: Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers (first spell), Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers (second spell)
St Johnstone: Tommy Wright, Callum Davidson, Steven MacLean, Craig Levien, Simo Valakari

Seven managers:
Hearts: Robbie Neilson (first spell) , Ian Cathro, Craig Levien, Daniel Stendel, Robbie Neilson (second spell), Steven Naismith, Neil Critchley
The Rangers: Ally McCoist, Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale, Philippe Clement

Obviously Hearts will be up to eight once they recruit a replacement for Neil Crichley.

Eight managers:
Motherwell: Stuart McCall, Ian Baraclough, Mark McGhee, Stephen Robinson, Graham Alexander, Stevie Hammell, Stuart Kettlewell, Michael Wimmer
Hibernian: Alan Stubbs, Neil Lennon, Paul Heckingbottom, Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnson, Nick Montgomery, David Gray
Dundee: John Brown, Paul Hartley, Neil McCann, Jim McIntyre, James McPake, Mark McGhee, Gary Bowyer, Tony Docherty

Nine managers:
St Mirren: Tommy Craig, Gary Teale, Ian Murray, Alex Rae, Jack Ross, Alan Stubbs, Oran Kearney, Jim Goodwin, Stephen Robinson
Ross County: Derek Adams (first spell), Jim McIntyre, Owen Coyle, Steve Ferguson, Stuart Kettlewell, John Hughes, Malky MacKay, Derek Adams (second spell), Don Cowie
Kilmarnock: Allan Johnston, Gary Locke, Lee Clark, Lee McCulloch, Steve Clarke, Angelo Alessio, Alex Dyer, Tommy Wright, Derek McInnes

Ten managers:
Dundee United: Jackie McNamamra, Mixu Paatelainen, Ray McKinnon, Csaba László, Robbie Neilson, Micky Mellon, Tam Courts, Jack Ross, Liam Fox, Jim Goodwin

Very little long term thinking or planning these days

Both The Rangers and Hearts will be up to 8 once the new manager is appointed yet Hibs have a revolving door according to the press.Assuming St Johnstone get relegated leaves us equal 3rd least.

BTW Falkirk also have 8.

Equal fifth most surely, with Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Ross County and St Mirren all having more.

Or equal fourth fewest behind Aberdeen, Celtc and St Johnstone as Hearts and the Huns will be level with us once they appoint next season's sacrificial lambs.

yet Hibs have a revolving door according to the press

I don't know if it influenced press comments or not, but around the time of either LJ or Montgomery being sacked there was a stat going around that we had the worst turnover of managers in UK football over the last 25 years. Something like an average of 11 months per manager, worse than Watford and all that.

It was nonsense – the site it came from had either included caretaker managers or just messed up the arithmetic.

The truth is that our average was something like 18 or 19 months, which was pretty much bang on the overall UK average. The figures in this thread show the same thing – while we've certainly had some short tenures and plenty of turnover, we're just middle of the road when compared with other clubs.

Kudos to St J for that list, they really did have a good 5-10 year spell under Tommy Wright & Callum Davidson. Refreshing to see, especially given the budget they have/had.

I said assuming St Johnstone get relegated and replaced them with Falkirk.

You could also argue Stubbs and Lennon never left for footballing reasons

Rangers with 7 managers in that time is shocking given their budget in Scotland. Guess it’s because they can’t compete with Celtic and think changing the manager is the answer.

It's crazy when you think of the length of time managers used to get, e.g. Alex Miller and Eddie Turnbull.

Now all clubs seem to be in an endless cycle of short term appointments.

Egged on my fans!

Great point! I wonder how many less managers we’d have gone through if the board didn’t listen to the fans and overly keen to make their own stamp on it! Think I recall Ian Gordon saying something along those lines regarding Jack Ross.

I think it was Ron Gordon who expressed regret a year or so later about firing Ross.
