I can’t remember, born 1950, was taken to Easter Road one week and Tinycastle the next week. I had an uncle played for Hibs and one that played for Hearts. Very confusing but the one in green was nicer to me and I loved the colours Hibs wore, thank god, imagine being a wee boy having to go about in maroon.

April 1995. Hibs 0-2 Falkirk. North and south stands were being redeveloped so was a Wednesday 5pm KO due to no floodlights.

Defeat ended up costing us 2nd place

1968 Hibs 1 v 1 Leeds United

As soon as I saw the green with long white sleeves running out reflecting off the drench floodlighting in front of a 40k + crowd I was hooked a fan for life it was unconditional love through good times and bad mostly bad

Even more when Colin Colin Stein levelled the tie on the night almost immediately from an acute angle

Mine was either 90 or 91 in the cowshed. Don’t remember who we were playing or what the score was as I would have been 3/4.

I do remember being more interested in being able to climb the old floodlights than the game itself though 😅

8th March 1980 v Berwick away. George Best played. I had supported Hibs since 11 years old but lived in London at the time, then went to Germany with the Army. Was visiting my Sister in the Borders and my Brother-in-Law went with me, he was a Jambo but it was the first of many games I went with him. I was stood in the Hearts end once against Hibs - I think it was when Gordon Rae was sent off and Archibald scored a beauty? when Hibs scored, he immediately told everyone that I was a Hibee, ah great times. Both have sadly passed now :(

My first game was against Clyde as well. League Cup 1969, 4-1 to the Hibs. I was only 8 and my Uncle took me along that day. I lost touch with him in the mid 80s but met him again in 2018 at his son's wedding. After 40 years he comes up to me and says, "Remember me? I took you to your first Hibs match". We had a good old chin wag about Hibs (including that New Year's Day game that he attended), Life and everything. Special memories. Unfortunately he died the next year.

Skol Cup quater final at Somerset Park in 1991 as we marched on towards eventual Cup glory.

I grew up in Ayr with no connections to Hibs, Edinburgh or even the east of Scotland but for whatever reason I chose Hibs as my team, possibly when I was 9 or 10 years old.

By the time the Ayr game came around I was 13 and I was so excited that the Hibs were comming to town but my pals decided they didn't want to go and with my Mum saying well you can't go on your own I was gutted.

Dad was only vaguely interested in football and never mentioned taking me to the game ( he hadn't been since he was a lad himself) so I though my chance was gone.

Then on the night of the game he got I from work about half 6 as usual as suddenly told me to get ready as we had a game to get to!

I'll never forget that night, the crowd, the signing and the celebrations.
Thanks Dad.

Airdrie at Easter Road around 67-68 season, don't remember a huge amount, I think it was a night game and know from checking in our very own John Campbell's book that we scored 5 on our way to a win.

I definitely supported Hibs before that though as I have a bible dedicated to me by my grandmother from earlier than that which has Hibs for the cup written on it.

Like the OP my family weren’t interested in football, so my uncle took me to my first game and weirdly enough, I searched it up last week.

I remembered it was v Aberdeen, that Alan Rough saved a penalty and it was 0-0. Fitbastats reliably informs me it was Monday 02/05/83, and he saved it from a certain Gordon Strachan.

I’d been hooked well before going to watch my first game, but that sealed it [emoji1303]

Can't remember much about my first game apart from being incredibly excited before, during and after the match at Easter Road. Walking down the road after the game I questioned the ear off my Dad about all the players and numbers and positions. Early 1960s, I was around 7 and I think the opposition was Dundee United. They wore all-white strips at the time. Actually, I didn't really care what the opposition was, I was there to see the Hibees :greengrin

First game could’ve been any game from the mid-1980s. My Dad used to take me and my brother in the old main stand but we had no real interest in the game. Have vague memories of seeing the old scoreboard which was knackered.

First game where I had an actual interest was a 1-0 home win over Celtic 1990, think Kano scored a pen and we were in the Cowshed.

Hibs had been my Scottish team as a kid, as oppose to either of the OF who everyone else seemed to favour, i was living in Newbury at the time and just started a new job one of the guys there was a Hibs fan and we went up for the weekend and took the game in.

I'd left my dad and gone to stand with a group of lads just behind us but started crying because of the noise when we scored :greengrin

Next game after that was I think the 6-2 against Hearts, then after living abroad for a few years it was an end of season game against Motherwell the season before Mowbray took over and we then got season tickets.

Wish I could remember .. later 1960s I’d guess … remember being at school in early seventies and somehow knowing team I supported was something special. Felt a bit of .. a naive kind of sorry .. for pals who supported other teams … either hearts, who seemed dull to me and way on the less colourful part of town as I felt it .. or teams in glasgow that might as well have been playing on the moon, the amount of times they went to see them play .. they actually saw Hibs more lol, and some even changed allegiance later on … we all got lifted in and later on climbed the wall or other ways to get in, even reserve games, in the old enclosure under the stand … it was an adventure !

ps I did pay in soon as I could afford it lol, but old faither could only afford his own entrance .. least I learnt to climb a bit. Helped tho, later, when I was an old dad at Ratho clip n climb with my lad and his pals lol

August.? 1965 - Hibs 1 St Mirren 0 in the League Cup, standing in the Dunbar end. 5 year old.

Goalie Willie Wilson gets a kick in the head first half, no subs back then, so Peter Cormack goes in goals.

Willie gets a giant bandage on his napper and comes out in the second half to make up the 11. Can still see the floodlights hitting the big white dressing on his head and the bright white sleeves. Never stopped going from that night.

November 1988. A 1-2 home defeat to Aberdeen. We were late getting into the game and Hibs scored while we were queuing to get in. So I didn’t even get to see a Hibs goal. I would have been 8. I had it in my head that it was a draw, but looked it up. Definitely a defeat. As was my second game. The second home game vs Aberdeen and again, another 1-2 defeat.

After that we moved to England in May 1989. Then it was a case of going to the match when we came back to Edinburgh during the school holidays and Christmas.

2006 semi final against Hearts.

I've said it before but I think the magnitude of that result in my first game is probably why I place so much importance on derbies.

13 August 1969 at East End Park. We lost 3-1 to the Pars on a night we were simply outclassed. I was staying with my great aunt on Garvock Hill just above the stadium and her wonderful neighbour Mr McHarg offered to take me, aged 10, down the road to the match. Dunfermline were deserved winners that night and I was disappointed but the atmosphere was great. They also had the late, great Alex Edwards playing for them then, who lived across the road from another great aunt. I remember watching him washing his car from her front room - a Ford Capri?

I always enjoyed my brief holidays in Dunfermline, which I have always thought of as a picturesque neighbour of Edinburgh, though less so these days with all the road realignments scything through former parks, and the Pars have been a team I like to do well in consequence.

Posted this last month on the 'Derbies' thread.

"Does the East of Scotland Shield count? Wednesday 29th March 1961.

Hibs 4 Hearts 2. Hibs were 3-0 up at half time, 4-0 after an hour. The Hearts scored 2 in the last 10 minutes to render the scoreline respectable. Joe Baker missed a last minute pen for his hattrick.

The teams consisted of twenty Scots-born Scots and 2 English-born Scots - Gordon Marshall Hearts G/K and Joe Baker.

Hibs had 5 U21s. Hearts had none. Willie Bauld and Gordon Smith were still playing for Hearts then.

All the above info is typed with the benefit of hindsight.

I was with my dad as a tall for my age 4-year old who could barely see over the wa', standing at the bottom of the East Terrace. Sixty-four years later and by the Grace of God I'm still standing in the East, this time high up in the Singing Section beside the crazy gang. I was hooked on the atmosphere that night under the floodlights and enjoy it just as much now.
