I remember after the 2016 final there was a comment on Kickback saying something along the lines of that he'd been known to say he would never play for Hibs.

Of all the things that spring to mind when you hear the name David Gray, growing up a Hearts fan doesn’t even register and one of the last things you’d think of.

I had heard that before, but until reading again on this thread its something I had completely forgot about.

If he grew up in Edinburgh there is of course a decent chance and he obviously started his career in hearts youth but aside from occasional anecdotes about him on 13pointsback over the road there appears to be little in the way of evidence. If he grew up in Edinburgh there is of course a decent chance and he obviously started his career in hearts youth but aside from occasional anecdotes about him on 13pointsback over the road there appears to be little in the way of evidence. It is true, he grew up in a small town south of Edinburgh where his parents still live, his family and extended family are all hearts supporters as was he. However like most youngsters who make the grade I doubt he would've attended many matches as a fan as he'd have been playing, that opportunity would've been diluted further once he left for Man U.

Like any proper professional he'll do whats right for his career and look beyond any personal leanings - though i doubt he ever thought it would end up the way it has (i'd put John Roberston in a similar category).

I recall playing Glory to the Hibees on a babies xylophone in his parents house which i think would be xmas 88, much to the immediate derision of everyone else present; I always like to think it sowed the green shoots.... :wink:

It's a lot different for a footballer. Their mindset is their loyalty goes to the teams they have played for. At the end of the day it's their employer that enables them to fulfil their dream of being a footballer. Kevin Thomson loves rangers because that's where he made a lot of money and secured his families future, as did Scott Brown with Celtic.

In David Grays case he played his best years at hibs, captained us and scored the club's most important goal. I am sure he's made a decent living out of us. Not enough to put him into the 1 percent, but enough to enable a good life for him and his family.

If you go onto his Wikipedia page it says his only honour was "Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year" whilst at Manchester United.
