Sad news, he was in and around our club for some very good times. Rightly in the hall of fame, a Hibs man through and through.

RIP John.

He had the unfortunate task of replacing Smith or Reilly whenever they were injured which meant if there was a tannoy announcement making a change to the programme his name was invariably booed:greengrin. He was a steady player upfront and scored some important goals particularly one when we beat Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle at New Year. When Hugh Shaw moved him to right back we all had doubts but it transformed his game and he was one of the best backs in the country and a fixture in the team. A great servant to Hibs and a good guy.

Remember him in his coach's tracksuit from my 1970s team posters which the Evening News used to produce at the start of each season. Hadn't realised he was a such a long-serving Hibs man.

RIP.

Yes.

Was associated with Hibs over many years and appears in loads of team photos as a player and a coach/trainer.

Simpson, Fraser, McClelland, Stanton McNamee Baxter

The names still roll off the tongue after all those years.
RIP John and thanks for the teenage memories .

Yeah that's how I always remember him, in that purple tracksuit.

Sad to hear this. In the 150 years of Hibernian Football Club, John Fraser will be remembered as one of the clubs greatest servants. Rest In Peace John, condolences to family and friends.

I remember him as a very fast right back. Scored a last minute goal at ER to beat Sevvo in a Scottish cup tie. RIP.

Really sorry to hear the news of John's passing. He was a devoted servant of the Club over decades as both player (captain) and trainer.
John was the first Hibs captain I ever saw lifting silverware for Hibs, when we won the Summer Cup at Pittodrie in 1964.
I didn't know John personally but I was fortunate enough to speak to him on a bus in Porty several years after he retired. I've never forgotten that meeting with him, and have wondered for a while how he was doing.
Thanks for the wonderful memories John.

Condolences to all John's family and friends.
RIP

Did he run that pub that used to be in the old bus station? Travellers tryst? Might be completely wrong with that. Sounds like a great Hibernian. RIP

Well remembered Hibbyradge. Yeah, John ran Tipplers bar some time ago - it was a tiny wee boozer on the corner of Bread Street and Grindlay Street Court (it's now a tattoo parlour I think).

RIP John Fraser. Just missed his time as a player but he was an ever present with the team in the 70s. Not until I read Johnnyboy's second book did I realise he'd played with us and for so long.

Just seen this thread, sad news, John was a true Hibs legend having served the club for many years in a variety of positions both on and off the pitch.
I had the pleasure of dismantling a bed with him around ten years ago as he was moving house and was selling off a few items that were surplus to requirements in his new house.
He advertised an expensive, practically unused double bed on gumtree for £40. At the time I was in the middle of a divorce and was furnishing my new house on the cheap via gumtree.
I arrived to pick up the bed but unfortunately it hadn't been dismantled so I went to my van and got the tools do do the job. As we set about the task I mentioned that he shared a name with a former Hibs legend, "aye that's me" he said.
The next hour was spent listening to a few of his stories from his time at Hibs, it was a 15 minute job but I dragged it out just to be in the company of this humble guy, no airs or graces, no ego. Just a thoroughly decent guy who happened to play football for a living.
They don't make them like that anymore.
RIP John

Lovely post mate. He was before my time, but it’s always nice to hear people speaking so well of past and present people from the club
