Any recommendations for car parking in Leith on. Saturday? Preferably free!

I appreciate there’s the Tesco car parking at the foot of the walk where you can get three hours of free parking. How much is that monitored by those in charge? Looking to give hints and tips to someone coming through on Saturday afternoon for a meal at Vittoria. Three hours might be fine or might be cutting it fine!

Just park in the tram lane, it’ll be fine.

Hopetoun Crescent. It’ll be a 2 min walk to Vittoria, free and a max stay of 9 hours.

Loads of free parking especially in street permit holders spaces as they are free to park in at the weekend. I get parked on Easter Road itself every match day.

Park at ocean terminal and hop on a tram. Probably your best bet.

The Ocean Terminal shopping centre (if you can call it a shopping centre these days) has always offered free parking. Bit of a hike back up to Vittoria mind you.

Could get a tram door to door.

I'd second the suggestion of Hopetoun Crescent or Hopetoun Street (the on street bit - not the housing developments car parks) or any of the streets near there, e.g. Green Street, etc. I used to live on Hopetoun Street and there was very rarely many cars parked on the on street part. Might have changed since I moved but even on the odd occasion I've taken the car on a match day, I've managed to get parked there or thereabouts - even managed Brunswick Road and Elgin Terrace a few times too so that could be an option too.

No, you cannot park in "Permit Holders Only" spaces in Edinburgh unless you are a resident with a valid permit for that specific zone or area, or if you are a tradesperson with a valid permit during specific hour.

I would be p1$$3d off if I paid for my parking permit to find some random with no permit parked in a space that was designated for permit holders only.

I thought anyone can park in permit holder spaces outside the hours that the controlled zone is in operation, a permit only gives the right to park within the hours e.g. mon to fri 0800 to 1800 or whatever the zone dictates?

I regularly park in Pilrig Street or the side seats around on matchdays, great for a quick getaway 😎

Sorry you are wrong, periphial permit spaces (outside city centre)are only restricted Monday to Friday. So you can be as pissed off as you like, they are the rules and that’s why I park in them.

Correct hence my comment, and why I park in them.

That is the case, although the way it’s worded on the signage does make it appear its permit holders only at all times imo.

For matches I park just off Macdonald Road, Dryden Terrace, Hopetoun St, Bellvue. Short stroll to V's. No match, should be plenty available.

Is Ocean Terminal free parking all day? (No 3 hour limit or anything?)
I need to go to the office in leith a couple of times a week and wouldn’t mind the 20 minute walk if it saved me some parking fees [emoji14]

I live close to there and hold the odd business meeting 10 minutes walk from there.

The free parking is actually a great facility, especially with there being a tram stop right there.

Free and unlimited, although they’ve knocked down the car park at the far end now. As a result of the capacity reducing, I don’t expect it to be free for much longer.

I didn’t know that you can park in the permit spaces near ER at the weekend - so many times I’ve driven past them! I usually take public transport to the game but that’s useful to know if I ever do have the car.

I heard they were knocking down the whole of the old Debenhams section too. Housing in its place I think?

That's a massive cut in parking capacity so you're probably right about charges getting introduced, although apart from the cinemas there's not much reason to visit OT.

Yeah Debenhams is gone. They are working on it now and it means that Ocean Terminal is one of the coldest places to go!

We take the kids from work to the wee play hub there sometimes and it’s always freezing.

The car park is always rammed though, it’s usually level D before you can get a space. Probably people leaving their cars and tramming it to town :greengrin

Be interesting to see what happens there. The trams came too late to save it as the shopping centre it began life as. A shame as I liked it when it opened.

The Living Memory Association had transformed Debenhams into a hub for various music, drama, sports clubs etc which was great for them as there were no rates to pay, but presumably they all had to find new homes.

There's always spaces down Balfour Street, then 1 stop on the tram.

The hours of restriction within the central controlled zone (permit zones 1-4) are 8:30am to 6:30pm Mon to Sat. The hours of restriction within the peripheral controlled zones (permit zones 5-8) and extended controlled zones (permit zones with prefix S or N) are 8:30am to 5:30pm Mon to Fri.

Sunday afternoon is also restricted in at least some of Zones 1-4.
