Good to see Lennon Miller and James Wilson included. I look forward to Bowie and Molotnikov pushing for squad places next season.

Grant Hanley still involved. He's a sub in League One these days. Worrying that we don't appear to have any centre-halves coming through.
Is it time for Lewis Ferguson to get a chance? I hope Clarke uses Christie in the deeper role he's playing so well for Bournemouth.
We really miss Hickey at right-back. Let's hope he can get back in time for the WC qualifiers.
He's here!

No Hibs players involved so no worrying about injuries. Hopefully they're aren't any U21 games around the same time that Bowie might find himself involved with?

Wilson is a shambles and I’m not just saying that as a Hibs fan.
Hickey still being out is a real disappointment. He could have been a star for Scotland but it already feels like his career is running away from him. 23 in the summer, in his 6th full season and he averages less than 20 games per season.

Has "a shambles" gained a new meaning for promising young player in for the experience? I'm a bit bemused!

Wilson is in no way ready for int’l level football in my opinion. Will struggle physically and would argue his general overall play isn’t where it needs to be. Guy is only 17 so plenty time for him but I find it an odd choice from a manager who hasn’t taken many risks over his tenure to then include Wilson.

Physically think he’s fine, he bullied Iredale especially early on, technically he’s miles off it though. Can’t believe Clarke has went for him but then there’s very little options out there.
Good luck to him but Shankland is far better on the ball even despite the goals drying up.
Strange move. Let him and Miller develop further in the 21s imo.

He’s an absolute mile off being good enough for international football. He’ll have plenty time to gain experience in future when he inevitably improves to the stage of being a bit closer to being ready. At this point in time it is utterly pointless giving him that experience though. He won’t be a regular Scotland player for at least 2 or 3 seasons. Give him the experience closer to that point.

Bullied Iredale when?
Won the header that led to their goal a week past Sunday. Not bad going for a wee scrawny 17 year old.

Think he is a good player however winning a header doesn’t really equate to bullying though to be fair his giraffe neck does give him an advantage :greengrin

Winning a header doesn’t mean you’re an international type player.

He beat Iredale to 1 header, hardly bullied him. He got sent absolutely flying in a 50/50 against a St Mirren player the other week as well, does that mean he was bullied?
I think he's really composed and is a great future prospect but nowhere near ready for men's international football.
I'd have him in the 21's in a heartbeat but I was pretty stunned at his inclusion in the full squad.

Don't know, you'd have to ask the poster that actually said anything about bullying.
I was just referring to a point in the game that Iredale let a wee boy beat him to a header that led to us conceding.

I really rate Wilson as a prospect and think he could go on to be a good international player. He isn't ready but is in on politics not merit. Ireland are throwing their oar in and trying to get him to go over. U21 caps don't tie you down and so he is in this time round for that reason.

Agreed, however he is in so we can tie him to us with Ireland trying to nick in

Bullied Iredale when?
He won every header etc against him for the time he was on.
Inexplicably subbed, to our benefit.
Good use of strength against a usually adept defender.

Have you seen him in the flesh? I’ve see him a few times and his movement and touch are excellent
Also for a young lad doesn’t get bullied

Genuinely no recollection of that thought he was very quiet in the game. Bizarre imo he is in the Scotland squad

It's a positive seeing the young un's from the SPFL in the squad.
Good incentive for one or two at Hibs who are progressing and getting back to fitness.

I read Wilson qualifies for Northern Ireland, So possibly going to cap him so they don't poach him.I would prefer Bowie than Wilson for his physical attributes but I have got my green specs on :greengrin

Wikipedia doesn’t have any info but maybe he has a non Scottish grandparent and we’re just getting cap in to be safe for future?

Hes in to tie him to Scotland. He’s not near ready but given a handful of years it would be galling to see him anywhere else. They need to do the same with Bowie.

I would've said its the opposite, physically he is a 17 year old boy and not the wayne rooney type either... he's there to be bullied
He has an eye for goal tho.. but physically way off it.

Shows the lack of quality Scotland have up front if Wilson is getting a call up.
He's a decent young player but absolutely miles off international standard at the minute.

I posted that about him before the derby. He's far more combative and competitive than his stature suggests he would be.
He's a decent player to be fair. I don't think he's good enough for the national team yet, and I don't think he's done enough this season (based on what I've seen of Hearts) to even deserve to be called up, but at some point he probably will be and it's not a terrible idea to bring in the young players early on, for the national teams benefit long term.

I'm delighted to see both Miller and Wilson in the squad. Along with Doak it's a core of good young players to build around.
Stachan had both McGinn and Jack Hamilton involved when both were young and playing in the Championship. One worked out and the other didn't but it was a good move at the time.
We aren't blessed with top quality strikers, or even high end mediocre ones at international level, so blooding a promising youngster early is fine by me.

From what I have seen of Wilson he looks a decent prospect, he looked a little lost in the game at Tinycastle against us though. He is not international class at the moment but can understand why he has been called up with NI sniffing about. They will likely burn him out like they did with Cochrane!

Yeah no doubt another League One sub (Dykes) would've been in the squad if fit too. Better options in midfield. I thought Christie was currently injured but must have a chance I guess. It could be Fergie time.

They didn't. Like a lot of our young players over the years, Cochrane just wasn't good enough and that's why he's holed up in the 3rd tier of Scottish football as he approaches his 24th birthday. Could make the jump to the Scottish Championship but that's his limit.

I’ve no issue with Wilson getting in the squad.
For years I’ve thought we’re too slow at getting young players in amongst the set up.
Let them get in the squad, get a feel for it and learn what it’s like at that level.
Think it can only be a good thing to get guys like him, Doak and Miller in amongst it.
5 goals in 17 appearances/ 1054 minutes for an 18 year old in his first year is some going
There’s also not a lot of good strikers out there!
Hopefully Bowie see’s this as a real opportunity, stays fit and bangs then in which results in a call up!

No disrespect but glad he’s getting a cap for Scotland if we were looking at him . …
I’d be the opposite in saying he’s alright , nothing more , nothing less. International class ? Miles away from that level IMO .
Sorry see it mentioned it’s NI and not the ROI . Still wouldn’t swap him for Bowie though.

TBF I've not followed his progress(or demise) but it was eye catching a 16 year old for any top league club holding down a place in the 1st team (likely they had no other options).
I've no sympathy for him since that assault on McGinn that could of ended McGinn's career.
