View Full Version : Run in to the split

4 games to go until the split, although not mathematically in, I'd say there's only 1 place still up for grabs.

So the focus for us is to have as strong as a position as possible before we all need to play each other again. Fixtures:

Hibs - Killie (A), St J (H), Rangers (A) & Dundee (H)
Aberdeen - St J (A), Well (H), County (A), Rangers (H)
Dundee Utd - Dundee (H), County (A), Hearts (A), St J (H)
Well - St M (H), Aberdeen (A), Killie (A), Hearts (H)
Hearts - County (H), Celtic (A), Dundee Utd (H), Well (A)

I fancy us to get 10 points, pushing out lead in 3rd to 5 points over Utd and 6 over the Dons.

Hearts go to Well on the last day and draw when needing a win with the Steelmen sneaking into the top 6.

What's your predictions?

The two home games are must win.

We should be looking to win at Kilmarnock but funny things can happen on that pitch and it’s always tight down there.

Rangers away is still the hardest fixture despite their recent home form.

We will drop points along the way but so will those around us. I reckon anything from 7-10 points will have us third going in to the split.

Actually think St Mirren could be the biggest threat to Hearts making the top six. Hearts' superior goal difference gives them an edge though - reckon they sneak in but only just.

Think it's too close to call re 3rd. Even beyond the split the OF/title situation throws a lot of uncertainty into the mix.

Nine points from last week is amazing huge congrats to all HFC. Be brilliant if the title was over before the split, confident the Sevco 4 will achieve that.It will be disappointing to not make Europe now, given sitting on pole. Good to see Smith solid v the Plum Farm, a rested Myko, Gayle , Hoilet and with NMW and Levitt like new signings , third is definitely there for HFC.

Apart from the top two positions the rest of the league is quite exciting in the race for 3rd place , top 6 and who’s going to get relegated and end up in the playoffs.

As for us the two home games are vital we win , Killie away is one we could win but a point wouldn’t be a disaster by any means either . The sevco game is the hardest and a free hit .

Personally I wouldn’t be to unhappy with 7 points which I think both Aberdeen and Dundee Utd will get too leaving us in much the same as we are now going into the last 5 games.

I think hertz will scrape into the top 6 unfortunately. St Johnstone to get relegated and Dundee the play-offs .

Think we have a real chance of going unbeaten for the rest of those games. 2 home wins and 2 away draws leaves us with 8 points.

I don't see anyone else picking up that many in the run in.

Just take one game at a time and then let the others worry about us.

Hoping for somewhere in the region of 7-10 points :greengrin

Hearts run in to the split looks the least enviable, playing other clubs heavily involved in the fight and Celtic as well. A feeling they might fail to make the cut which would be "pleasing".....

It'll be interesting to see how the Hearts respond to the Derby defeat. I thought they looked a workmanlike team, devoid of pace and creativity.

I'd imagine Ross County will like the challenge of going to Tynie to leapfrog them with a win. After that, the games against Celtic (could they win the title if The Rangers slip up) and Dundee United will be difficult for them. It could come down to needing to beat Motherwell to have a chance of top six.

My preference would be for them not to make the top six. I'd rather an away trip to Motherwell than one to Tynie.

Plus Elie Youan still to come in. He does offer a bit of a spark when he is on his game so hopefully he can be motivated to contribute for the remainder of the season.

Winnable yes, but the players need to be on their game. McInnes always sets out his team against us to niggle and foul away and disrupt as much as possible so Hibs need to set out from the start to dominate all the battles.

6 points is resonable with two tough away games.

7 points would be extremely good, anything above is incredible

Trying to be conservative, I’d like to see us simply not lose the ground we’ve made up, so match Aberdeen and Dundee United’s points haul and we’re in a good place imo. That’ll take at least 7 points I reckon, maybe even 9.

Coming into the top 6, we want to be at least level third on points. I’d fancy us to do the business if we manage that.

Agree with this in its winnable but we all know how Mcinnes teams play now , between that and the pitch there will probably be little or no football played and the game will be more about winning the battle . A point wouldn’t be a bad result IMO .

They all have games against each other so can take points of each other.

Our only game against a topsixer is The Rangers. Win that and we skoosh it...

I’d rather Hearts don’t make it, hate going to Tynecastle, it’s such a dump
Think we’re due 2 at home and 3 away post split, but depending who’s in the top 6, this could change
Should be due Rangers and Dundee Utd at home
Celtic, Aberdeen and ANO away

Im sure Killie under McInnes have only beat us once, however that park is awful and def a leveller for Killie.

What would be the games post split if the league stayed as it is right now?

Rangers at Home
Celtic away
Dundee Utd at home
Aberdeen at home
Motherwell away

That correct?

Agree. In this league you aren't guaranteed to win any game and coming to the business end teams at the bottom are throwing everything at it. Still, given our form we need to be confident of the home wins. The away games are tough. Rangers having a few wobbles doesn't change that it will be a big ask to take points there.

6 would see us well in the race for 3rd, 7+ will have us favourites.

At this point I wouldn't even discount Hearts still being involved in the race for 3rd - they would have to make the top 6 first though

Aberdeen away, they’ve been to ER twice this season, and we’re technically only due 2 at home, but it can change

For me, playing the bottom 3 in the league (atm) we should be picking up 9 points, even with the comment re Killie and McInnes setting them up the way he does, plus Rangers in there current state, we should be looking to take something there.

Can appreciate the more cautious viewpoints as well, though.

Yep. 17 at home and 16 away so far too.
So we’ll have Rangers and Dundee Utd at home potentially, with Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts away.

If it was Motherwell or st Mirren instead of hearts, we’d be due to play them away too anyway.

They always try and even it to 19/19 first anyway so would be surprised if we don’t end up away to whoever the 6th team ends up even if we’ve been there twice already

If st Mirren take the last spot rather than our bitches

Surely we’d get them at home for 3 home fixtures in the split with 2 away to Celtic and aberdeen

Aw right I’m forgetting it’s 33 games pre split.

So is it guaranteed we will be three away - I can’t remember what the rule is regarding this scenario playing out.

They’ll always try and give everyone 19 home even if it means playing one team at home or away 3 times.

The way the split is looking, we’ll get the 2 homes and 3 aways to get to the 19/19. So Rangers and Dundee Utd at home being our home games

Each team needs to finish with the same amount of home and away games. Regardless if that means we have to travel to a place 3 times.

True however they the added derby element of their game with Dundee making it a bit more unpredictable, Ross county away, which has been a tough place to go this season and Hearts at Tynecastle which won’t be easy, especially with Hearts likely needing the win if they want to come top 6.

We play the bottom 3 teams, two of which are at Easter Road. Huns at Ibrox is the most winnable old firm away game in last few years. I genuinely wish we had them next weekend.

We take more points form these fixture than Dundee United do IMO (and more than Aberdeen do from theirs).

The post split fixtures are only 5 games, two of which are against the old firm. Our competition won’t be taking much more than 7 points from these 5 games. Go into the split with a 4 point lead and I think 3rd is ours.

10 pts and we'd be in dreamland, 7 would be great and my guess. Hearts will finish top 6 imo swapping places with Motherwell.

I know our derbies are generally hard fought encounters but I think Dundee Utd will win theirs as Dundee are in free fall having lost 15 out of their 29 games and lost 61 goals in that time.

I’d fancy Utd to beat St Johnstone too who I’ve seen a few times , play nice football but defensively they have looked all over the place .

That’s 6 points right away and anything from their point of view they pick up away to hertz or Ross County is a bonus . I think them , Aberdeen and ourselves will pick up 7 points from our next four games .
