I feel genuinely sorry for the guy. He seemed a really nice guy and you could see that he genuinely believed in his ideas and ways. He looked and seemed like he would give his all but have to question his way of playing especially in lower league or Scottish football.

The reality is , he is a style over substance type of manager. The complete opposite of David Gray. Maloney wouldn’t have made the changes and played the way we did 2nd half yesterday and that is the difference in these managers both roughly same age. Under maloney they would still be up there now trying to get the ball into midfield. David gray identified our strengths and Hearts weakness and exploited them , that won us a derby that would have been another draw in years gone by

I feel maloney ball would be more suited to an Italian type league. The slow build up and over kill of passing was found out very early doors here.

Surprised he lasted so long, probably the fact he’s a Wigan legend bought him more time.

By all accounts he's done pretty well at Wigan. Lost a number of key players in the summer, club didn't have the resources to replace them properly, so no real surprise they've struggled a bit this season. He's a legend at that club, as I understand it the fan base was still pretty happy with him.

I think he was awful at Hibs, but fair's fair.

He improved them in the Championship but they were too far gone by the point he took over. He had a half decent season last season despite a points deduction. Without the points deduction they would have been 7th, 1 place off the playoffs.

They’ve been poor this season though, he probably can’t have too many complaints now. They’ve been a disaster of a club for a good while though.

Spot on, and thankfully, the style of football you talk about (style over substance) is finally being found out, because it's been killing football for quite a few years in terms of entertainment.

Maloney wants to play possession football from the back by using bang average players incapable of playing the way he wants. Instead of playing a system to suit the players like Gray has done, he's persisted with his shape, Montgomery was another stubborn manager trying the same with us.

He's here!

Yep, he was up against it there but didn't do badly. Showed enough to probably keep himself in management.

Be a good Scotland coach or under 21 manager

Sorry for him but I think it was always going to happen.. Wigan fans have been complaining about the football for months which was pretty much what we had from him in there was no end product to it .. not surprisingly Wigan are joint lowest scorers in league 1 . Maybe being a manager isn’t for him and a coaching role would suit the guy better .

That's exactly my opinion when he was with us. I think if he was at a club like either Milans, Napoli or Juve he would be a highly rated manager. Unfortunately ourselves and Wigan don't have the luxury calibre of players these clubs have.

I thought he was our worst manager since Butcher untill Montgomery out did him. I've managed to erase most of Maloneys time here thankfully.

The best part about his appointment was he made Gary Caldwell his assistant. I don't think there was 1 supporter who was in favour of that.
