Brilliant achievement

Who was our last manager to win 2 manager of the months in one season?

He should be manager of the year but they'll give it to Brenda for romping home first in a one horse race.

Absolutely. He just gets everything right and his post match interviews are excellent.

I just wonder how special a manager we may have on our hands here. He’s still very young and the transformation in his team is spectacular.

I ****ing love that man with all my heart.

He’s already an absolute hero as a player and it gives me goosebumps thinking what he can achieve as a manager.

Getting way ahead of myself with this post but here goes anyway.

The best thing about this is that I don’t see him being tempted away at the first sniff of a decent move, like too many of our better mangers (which have been few and far between recently) have been.

It’s not to say he wouldn’t move on if the move was right, of course he would, but he isn’t going to Rangers or probably Celtic no matter what he achieves at Hibs and that’s a nice feeling. I also don’t see him jumping ship for a relegation fodder Championship team.

I think he’ll have seen what happened with Stubbs and will be more sensible.

Black Knights must be looking at what he’s doing here.

He’ll also know that what we need is stability and I agree that he won’t just jump ship at the first chance.

I'm fairly sure it wont be the first time they've misjudged a situation and I'm equally sure they'll be pleased to see us where we are currently. There's nothing wrong with being proven wrong if the result is a good one.

I totally agree he should get it, I think I'd we finish 3rd or 4th he will, particularly if we get to Hampden. If we win the Scottish Cup surely a shoo-in (unless it's decided prior, I can't remember).

What might count against him is our poor start. It's made what happened since even more impressive but we had a terrible start. If our form fell away post split and we finish 5th or 6th I can't see him winning it.

Edit - Announced last year before the final so whether we win or not might have no bearing.

Suggesting they didn't agree with him getting the gig. There's plenty hibs and SDG fans that disagreed at the time, myself included.

He's so far proven us wrong. Long may it continue. I'm sure the BKG will be in full agreement.

From what I can see, since he’s been at Hibs -

Played 7
Drew 6
Lost 6

From those he actually played in, whether starting or sub -

1 loss
5 draws
3 wins

As a gaffer -

2 wins
1 draw

On transfermarket (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-gray/bilanz/spieler/37678) he is won 3, drawn 5 and lost 2 as a player. won 2 and drawn one as a manager and I would discount his record as an assistant manager as I can't be bothered working it out. He is a rare breed of Hibs man with a winning record as player and manager.

Nightmare to fairytale for Gray this season.

Credit to everyone at the club for pulling together. They stuck with him, the players bought into the change in system. We supporters have reconnected. Fingers crossed to a strong finish and European football. Although I'd trade all that just to see us win the cup again.

Having got in to this position, we need to finish the season with something to show for it. That’s either third and the groups or a cup win (which would give us both). We and Gray have come on massively in the last few months, really hope we can finish strongly.

I'd imagine our target now will be to finish third. With the reward it brings for Euro qualification, that would be an incredible achievement.

Fingers crossed we can keep our form going.

As long as ourselves or Celtc win the Scottish Cup.

Even more deserved than the last one - for which Brenda could have staked a claim. Not this time as his team were papped fair and square by SDG's heroes en route to the award!

Does winning the Scottish rank higher than finishing 3rd?

Don't think so

I think it does

Winner of the Scottish cup gets the automatic conference group stage iirc

It tends to be Celtic that wins it so it defaults to third in the league

Does winning the Scottish rank higher than finishing 3rd?

Yes. Unless the team who win it arw first or second then it drops to 3rd.

So we have to either win the cup,
Or finish 3rd and celtic win it to get the guaranteed Europe spot till Christmas

Apparently so. That was the comfort blanket I got from the jambos on Sunday.

We’re going to finish 3rd and they’re going to win the cup and take our euro spot.

We just need to finish 3rd and win the cup to be sure.

He has to be in the running for manager of the year given they were ready to hand that award to Thelin in September, Gray has had a better season so far.

If we have a strong finish over the final 9 games I think he'll get it.

If we collapse like aberdeen and finish 6th he won't.

Manager of the month in January or February will mean nothing if he isn't manager of the month in April and May.

Huge couple of months ahead.

Post-split performance will likely be irrelevant.

Last seasons PFA awards we held on May 5th on the weekend of matchday 35. With voting forms likely going out well in advance of this - most votes were probably cast before the first post-split games.

Well deserved ... but I don't think he'll make manager of the year ... finish 3rd and win the cup maybe.

You are bang on about Brenda mate. Who could forget that this is a country where the guy who did the cup double with St Johnstone ..... ST JOHNSTONE FFS .... still didn't win it because they had a Sevco manager they could suck up to. Still possibly the biggest joke in the history of Scottish football .... I won't say 'injustice' because the folk who run our game and write about it don;t know the meaning of the word.

There is a general consensus among football fans as to who would be manager of year.

That differs very often from those who are charged with dishing out the awards.

Being in receipt of a plastic gong doesn't really change who is actually the genuine manager of the year.
