That was an absolute stick on penalty in the 2nd half on Nicky Cadden. You can see from the angle from behind the players that the Hearts defender clipped him. I know it doesnt really matter, but all the publicity about our "lucky" VAR decisions recently, i hope this is highlighted.

Should have been given, not sure why Beaton wasn’t asked to take another look, definitely caught Caddens foot

As soon as you factor in Cadden pulling Taylor’s shirt there is never a penalty getting awarded.

We were never getting a VAR decision today.

There was no reason for Cadden to go down, he was in the perfect position to cross the ball. It was a penalty all day long.

Interesting point in if the referee didn’t think it was a penalty then why didn’t he book Cadden for simulation …

THIS - it's clear in from the replay that Cadden's wee tug actually contributed to Taylor overbalancing and his leg making contact with Cadden's - which in turn lead to him hitting the dirt. I don't know if Beaton saw the wee tug but he evidently didn't see enough contact to award a penalty and in the end that was the correct decision - glad he didn't look at the VAR for it in retrospect as he may have actually ended up booking Cadden for attempting to deceive him with the shirt pull.

Because not every non-penalty is simulation.

Strange one though in our player is looking for it but Beaton instantly waves his hand in gesturing it wasn’t a penalty . If he thought that with the player looking for it then he must have thought the player went down to easily which to me is simulation ….

Surprised that VAR didn’t give it as there is a clear kick on Caddens foot which brought him down and IMO more contact than the one Vargas got against us when Monty was manager which was simulation.

There was a tug. But if you rewind it back and look closely, Cadden was having his shirt tugged first.

If Taylor was our player and Cadden an Old firm player and that same situation happens at Ibrox or Parkhead. I think there’s every chance it’s given ..

There’s no reason for Cadden to go down as he’s in a good position for a cross . It’s the kick on his ankle which takes him down . David Gray said Cadden was adamant that he was kicked . Again one that will divide opinions but I think it’s a penalty all day long .

Sometimes there is a middleground between never a penalty and a stonewaller, this incident was one of those.

I've seen some Hearts fans say it should have been a pen a some a Hibs fans say the opposite. Could have went either way.

Agreed. It's in the "seen them given" category (usually for Sevco) but if that was given against us I'd be absolutely raging.

Thanks for clearing that up Mr Beaton

Cadden grabs a hold of his shirt long before he falls over.

If that was given against us we’d be absolutely livid.

“If it was Rangers they’d get it” is about as bad a gauge you can get.

Yup, it's almost like everything isn't black and white and grey areas exist. A lot of refereeing decisions are subjective and it's one of those ones where VAR will probably always stick with the referee's decision on the pitch. It's not a clear and obvious error as the contact is minimal and as others have said there's shirt pulling from both players.

I wonder if Cadden hadn't gone down so dramatically would the referee have been more inclined to give it?

Naismith on sportscene seemed to suggest that Beaton had seen the shirt pull and said that over the mic in the discusion with VAR officials. Not sure how he would know that right enough, but its fair enough as a reason for no pen. Taylor was lucky no doubt, Cadden absolutely done him.

And if the game had ended up 1-1 i doubt id be so diplomatic:greengrin

He pulls the guys top, which takes the Hearts player off balance and collides with Caddens foot. No penalty in my opinion.

2 of them were pulling/pushing each other until the trip on Cadden. Should have been a pen.
