makes it all the more better

Love Joe Newell on the pitch at start of that getting the whole squad together and being a proper Captain - he just gets how important days like this is after many ones that did not go well...
Dwight Gayle at the end just loving it - when you consider hes played at St James's etc and other big clubs he was lapping it up - hope he signs another year as good older professionals set standards for younger ones to follow

It was fantastic. Even some Jambos and Celtic supporters sang their praises and declared it the best club anthem on the planet. Not unexpectedly, quite few Huns were sneering that it was sung today, with comments such as “ Did they win the league today?” and “ The cup final’s not been played yet.” Sour grapes at it’s sourest.:greengrin

Something so special about this song is it’s completely unique to Hibs.
Celtic and Liverpool have the same song.
Other clubs have tried to force anthems but this is just such a special song for Hibs only.
The comments on Hibs X have loads of other fans commenting about it and many other fans saying they would visit Easter Road to try sample it one day.
Yesterday with the players linked up showed the unity at the club and loved the celebrations.

Fans of numerous clubs in Scotland and England, as you say even Rangers fans, have spoken with me about how good it is. Plenty fans of all persuasions are also fans of the Proclaimers, which helps, but what really sets the song apart is that it's unique to us. There's no other club which can sing about sunshine on Leith and have it make sense.

One thing I’ve noticed over the course of this run is the embracing of our core songs by the fans. Both Glory Glory and Hibs Heroes are now being sung by the fans to great effect (having previously been just played almost as a background) with SoL obviously saved for the big games but getting a more regular outing rather than just cup finals. It’s great as they are core to our identity (thanks Mikey) and help solidify our special brand in the footballing world.

What I love is that it’s a straight forward love song, not towards a person but towards an inanimate location or situation. Its is utterly harmless and non confrontational. It’s about people being in harmony with a place or moment in life. Anyone that finds it difficult to handle is needs to find some inner peace and ditch their own anger.
It doesn’t surprise me but is sad that there is a kickback tonight in some quarters. Some people may get a little confused when there is no edge at all in a song. It’s a thing of beauty
I do find it ironic that the the rangers fans sing Caledonia as an anthem though.
Another beautiful song with no edge to it. The irony being that it’s a love song specifically about Scotland and its roots. Bless them

Think you take it for granted how many times it was sung after a big win during Stubbs/Lennon times. It felt like an absolute age since it was sung and played before beating Hearts in April 23 and it felt and sounded much better than you can remember.

The bit in bold is another thing that adds to the uniqueness. You can’t just turn up at ER and here it any time. Its spontaneous and only sung in certain moments. To hear it in the flesh, you just “have to be there” - in the moment.

I'm not usually in favour of that type of signing but Gayle has changed my mind. He was brilliant when he came on yesterday with superb energy and some really clever closing down. Hoillett in a totally different way was a big part of that last 10 minutes being easy street. Both have had a number of important contributions over the season.
For all the talk about disastrous transfer windows etc it has been a long time since our squad was a decent number, very balanced and obvious competition for places. The subs look hungry and that isn't just based on yesterday. Those involved in trimming the squad down and shaping it to have such good cover deserve a lot of credit

What makes SOL Special is the irregular nature of it, most Club Anthems are a weekly thing, generally before a match same time, same place, rinse and repeat, the fact SOL happens when it happens means for these football experience “Collectors” who tick off grounds etc, simply going to Easter Road for a Derby or attending a cup final doesn’t give you access to the full Sunshine On Leith Hibs Event it only gives you a % chance of getting that and that’s what it’s all about 💚

Spot on. I personally don’t want to hear it again until we have either won the cup, or the next time they visit Easter Road. There is nothing better than watching them stream out spewing, whilst 3 stands belt out Sunshine on Leith. It makes it all the more special, that it is used sparingly, when it really matters.

It's absolutely hilarious when they start arguing about the postcodes, and the boundaries between Leith and Lochend... so pathetic and reveals they have hit the absolute bottom of the barrel.
Other crackers include "make your minds up, are you an Edinburgh team or a leith team?"... well since Leith has been in Edinburgh for over a century now, how about both? You absolute roasters!

Thought the same. Leith is class and Easter Road is arguably situated in one of the best locations of any football stadium in the UK. 10 mins on foot from the city centre in an amazing city, surrounded by masses of pubs and good restaurants.
I’m almost jealous that we don’t get to have an away day in leith.

Lol- to be honest though...most weeks the East is very empty by the end of games - even games we win, and the clear out starts on about 80 mins. Always think it's a bit of a pity there's so few in the ground for normal games when the players are trying to acknowledge the fans. (I do know the East is hard to get out off hence the early leavers).

I was just on the phone to a potential client at my work who’s from the south of England, I mentioned I was from Edinburgh and he straight away asked if I watched the Hibs Hearts game at the weekend. I said I did and he said he had no skin in the game whatsoever, doesn’t normally watch Scottish football but he found himself getting caught up in the emotion of it and had a wee lump in his throat. Said he didn’t know where it came from and why he started feeling like that but is going to start taking more than a passing interest in us going forward because of it.
I’m not sure what was so different this weekend compared to last or previous renditions of it but it really seems to have captured the attention of the footballing world this time around. Really is magic.

AEK will special atmosphere - I was at game but can’t remember when we sung it ? Must have been at the start ?
That’s another discussion - before or after games - of course many a time it’s after but we have sung it before at Hampden etc if the DJ plays it.
Villa Park was one of the best away day renditions.
Obviously 2016 tops it all - would give anything to go back then and sing it again.
As said above we don’t often get the players linked arms together like we did Sunday. Maybe this will carry on in future ?

Always after games. And only on certain occasions. A unique anthem that isn’t for playing any old time. I can never remember it being played at Hampden before a game. But I’m rarely in there more than half an hour before ko so maybe it has been played when the ground is pretty empty. Would seem a strange choice though.

We're right at the back and we always time it so we start heading down the stairs in the final minute of injury time. Sit down in an empty seat next to the exit for the final few seconds then straight out, easy.

I mentioned it only because we had reached a point where reference was being made to SoL being sung at the AEK game. The pro USA chanting that night was noteworthy at the time - I hadn't previously heard anything like it and - although I think it was at least partially because the AEK support was not of a pro-American bent. We have had an immensely powerful and important relationship with the USA for the last 80 years up until now. It is currently being recklessly torched by the fascists occupying their government in their actions towards us and our allies and friends. I'll leave it there as this is more appropriate for the Holy Ground.

Edit: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2001-oct-04-sp-53239-story.html (also a wee reminder of how great the self-proclaimed "greatest fans in the world" can be when the mood takes them)
Did they not have a sheet with a drawing of the planes going into the twin towers at Easter Road and did airplane actions during the game as well.

Hibs fans trying to get YNWA reintroduced as a 'Hibs song' as late as 2006...  I've nothing against the song but the idea of being just another club that sings it when everyone knows it as a Liverpool FC anthem leaves me very cold. I'm glad we let it go.
Interesting that SoL hadn't really caught on in 2006. A few on there didn't like it and a few others complaining that nobody sang along except for the chorus. How times change.

YNWA used to be a great spectacle. Now it's just an oversaturated gimmick that loads of clubs do. SOL will never be like that. That's what makes it so special.

I was at the Hands off hibs rally, and (I think) I remember YNWA but not SOL.
SOL was part of the soundtrack played over footage of the HOH rally on the video of 'the team that would not die' which would maybe make it seem that it had been played.

YNWA belted out on a special, emotional occasion (eg Klopp's last game, or that post Hillsborough Cup Final in 1989) is spectacular and might just have the edge on SOL. Might. And even then it's very close.
The standard 3pm Saturday pre-match going-through-motions YNWA vs SOL? No contest. Sunshine on Leith by a country mile.
The sense of occasion is the difference and it's why we need to resist any attempt to get it played more regularly.

I liked it when we used to sing YNWA.
We did a cool wee speedied-up, clappy bit in double time that was different to everyone else that sang it.
The USA chants were definitely in response to the AEK flag burning thing and I remember their fans doing the airplane gesture. ****.

I dont recall it being played at the rally at either ER - although I had to leave just before the end to get to the Stone Roses gig on Glasgow Green - or at the Usher Hall - only recalled Margot chairing and getting the likes of Goram, Torfasson? And Robbo up to speak on behalf of players across the league.

SOL was not sung at the HOH rally. We were still doing our version of YNWA then. I don't remember SOL before the AEK game, I could be wrong but I would say that night was the birth of the song as our anthem.

I think the decision to send young men to their deaths in war will weigh very heavily on the conscience of most human beings who have had to make that decision. They’ve normally got a good few years after office to mull things over too.
The likes of Trump and Putin will not be burdened by any such thoughts.

You're giving politicians more credit than I ever do, generally speaking I think they will regard it as something that was done for the greater good and thus acceptable.

SoL is ours and ours only. We should enjoy it and look after it as we do.
Wee bit uncomfortable with some of the biggliest song contest narrative. Seems like something a rover driver, sweater wearing, bungalow dwelling, golf club swinging, reception washing biggliest fans in the world would discuss- all 400,000 of them on the ST waiting list.
There's a place for a number of glorious football anthems...as those who haven't been to the restrictedest view in Scotland before will hear today. Let everyone else debate what's best and smile.
All the right people will be frothing at the mouth - as it would appear, literally!

I remember hearing that Chic Young was absolutely raving about it, and the atmosphere in general that night.
We'd not been in great form for a few months and I was beginning to get a bit fed up with it all but that night got me right back on track - even though we followed up be getting beaten by Livi and then rest of the season being agony.
Like others, I'm pretty sure that was the first time we sang it, although no doubt it had been on the tannoy before. Last time I remember singing YNWA was the 2-2 Andy Walker derby.

100%.
Envy from other clubs fans that Hibs have started promoting the song a bit more and fans from Hearts and Celtic seem gutted we sang it at ER against them and it went viral with their fans in background sneaking out / fire drill out of Easter Road.
Don’t care less really - it’s an incredible song and unique to Hibs. Other clubs can try and copy Hibs but it won’t be the same and they know it.

Hearts fans are absolutely mortified by it and rightly so. They are a club and a support that basically live off their derby record and their supposed superiority to Hibs.
Seeing the images of Hibs players and fans celebrating after beating them go viral with all the positive comments from neutral fans is their worst nightmare. A huge embarrassment. Good!
As for celtic, a lot of their fans are quite complimentary, as for the ones that aren't, well, we know exactly why don't we. It's because they can't cope with not being the centre of attention in Scottish football for once.
If there's one thing Hibs haven't done with their anthem it's rip the pish out of it. I make it only 5 times in the last 7 years that we've sung it. One of them was unofficially at villa park, at 8-0 down, another was before a game in tribute to Ron Gordon. So that leaves just three times in seven years that we've sung it in celebration with the players. And two of those were in the last three weeks.

No time for YNWA outside of Liverpool, leave it there, it simply doesn't belong to anyone else. Newcastle have Blaydon Races, West Ham Bubbles, Birmingham City 'Keep Right on...' (a Harry Lauder song so I don't quite know how it ended up there...) Point is that there are plenty nice footballing anthems that can be unique to each club for supporters imaginative enough to embrace one. No need for dumb, butt-licking 'tributes' to other supports. YNWA is as Hibs as 'The Sash', and while originally great is now played out (mostly, to be fair, by those tribute acts) and is miles behind SOL as football song numero uno.
