Whatever happens on Sunday (12.30ko) we will still be ahead of them in table.

5 games left before the split (15 points up for grabs) we are 6 points ahead of 7th position currently.

1 point behind 3rd with better goal difference.

Hibs in excellent form - Hearts form much improved now playing with 2 strikers and Shankland just behind front 2. Could this be Shanklands last game at Easter Road for Hearts if he leaves them in summer ?

Hibs unbeaten in last 3 derbies. Last home Derby win was April 2023. Should have won the last home Derby if we had scored the chance at 1-0.

It’s a sell out as normal for this game - it’s going to be a cracker and experc Hibs fans to be loud as they back David Grays men. What a feeling it will be if we win and get another SOL post match.

Team lineups will be interesting with Bowie hopefully getting his first taste of Derby action.

Yip, set up to be a cracker. There will be goals in the game for sure and let’s hope home advantage gives us the edge.

It’s bloody exhausting watching Hibs at the moment, nervous tension to the fore…. https://www.hibs.net/blob:https://www.hibs.net/b8d3cb27-ffbd-46c5-a8e7-4e7c6db2690f

This is the biggest derby match at ER for a long time. A chance to go 3rd with Aberdeen and United to play each other later in the day, and go 7 clear of our pink pals.

A win would put us in the driving seat. However, a draw could still see us 4th on goal difference and keep us a point off the sheep. Just don’t lose Hibs, that’s all I ask!

It's going to be an anxious day. Hearts have run in to some fine form themselves since we spanked them at christmas.

Absolutely no reason why our players shouldn't take that field full of confidence though. Leave the nerves to us in the stands.

At 90 minutes last night they'd have been salivating about going above us at the weekend. They can't do that now even if they were to beat us.

We certainly look capable of beating them and extending the gap but a draw wouldn be far from a disaster.

I'd be tempted to start Myko and Bowie together for this one, both out and out strikers with Campbell behind.

I said before the Celtic game and again before United that this stretch of 3 games would make or break our season in terms of 3rd place finish. Having already got 6pts with Hearts to play a draw would still be a fantastic point.

I think the game will be determined from a hibs point of view in the first 10-15mins. If we can get off to a flyer and shut them up early I think the space they will leave in behind will result in a very good day for us. Longer the game goes on 0-0 with both teams understanding the importance of not losing I can see the game being a very dull one.

can’t wait for this one, been a long time since a derby game at ER had had such importance attached to it especially at this end of the table.

Looking at the table i would take a draw at this point. Which is weird because i think we’ll win. We’re in a good place here, sitting pretty for a top 6 place at least and if we keep winning 3rd is assured. Actually winning the derby (and owning them this season)would also put hearts back in danger of missing top six which would be tremendous.

Keith_M
27-02-2025, 11:56 AM
I so want us to win this one, but it's important to remember that Hearts are also on a really good run. Since losing the derby at Tynecastle, they've won 5, drew 2 and lost 1.

We're going to really have to be up for this, but I think Gray will make that very clear to everybody involved.

MacGruber

Set up to be a cracker, both going great guns. It's our home game and 3 points would put us in a great position for challenging for 3rd. A Hearts win and they will be confident being one behind with the last derby at Tiny. Not writing Aberdeen off completely but it's Hibs & Hearts with all the momentum. The 2 derbies are going to be massive (unless we beat Hearts and they don't make top six).
A draw suits us better than them and would be hard to see us falling away and missing top six if we come out with a point.
More than capable of turning them over but they have big threats and a lot of pace with Kabangu and Wilson. Going to be Box Office

The team we have will go all out for a win. If we don’t win it won’t be down to being outfought and them wanting it more as we’ve seen so many times before. I don’t think they’ll out run us, I don’t think they’ll out fight us and I don’t think they’ll want to win more. Given the run we were on the players will probably feel like it’s a disaster if we don’t win but I think it’s a fair comment that it actually wouldn’t be one.

Bowie in for Myko would be only change for me.

I’d keep Miller in the side, I reckon he could be a big threat at the back post against Penrice. He’s also done well in the last two game.

Team more or less picks itself. One thing I would say is that, with the options we have, we need to be ready to change quickly if needed. Was clear we needed to change in the second half last night and we were lucky not to be 2-1 down when the subs did come on with the disallowed goal.

I'd select the same - basically the same as last night with Bowie in for Kuharevich. It's maybe been a bit rough on Chris Cadden to give way for Miller, but Miller has played well since coming back in and is perhaps a wee bit stronger defensively which makes sense against the Jambos.

Our bench is starting to look very strong which is fantastic - could be something like Bursik, Cadden, Ekpiteta, Obita, Manneh, Hoilett, Gayle, Youan, Kuharevich

Gordon is my one worry. Otherwise feeling unusually optimistic. We can certainly score and out defence is stuffy, so despite Hearts improvements we are the inform team. The improved midfield and Bowie have been the major factors. Being able to bring quality off the bench is also a real plus in a derby. Going for a narrow win but should take at least a draw

Feel different than I normally do leading in to a derby. Don’t know if it’s because every game has felt like a big game lately or because I don’t have any worries about the team. Or a bit of both.

Going in to a derby knowing that we’re not going to get outfought or outworked is a good feeling. If we don’t win it won’t be for the want of trying. That side of things will be there, I just hope we don’t forget about playing football as well and get too drawn in to it. We need to play.

I expect a victory here. This is a completely different type of Hibs team than we've had for years in the derbies. Size and physicality are absolutely key in these games and at last we now have the edge here. That, along with the will to win being driven by David Gray who knows what it's all about having been at the club for so long and played in so many.

Critchley doesn't have this and quoted its 'just another game' in the lead up to us smashing them on Boxing Day.

Had a wee look on the dark side.

They seem to be pushing a narrative that we are over confident and we think this is going to be easy.

Well, from what Gray said today and from what I read on here, I don't detect any over confidence from Hibs at all. Yeah, we are on a decent run, but there has been no misguided bravado or ridiculous sound bites from Hibs.

Fine if the Yam wish to push this, but it's quite an odd perspective on JKB.

Police Scotland have been given special powers to stop and search fans around Sunday's Edinburgh derby in a bid to avert football-related disorder.

The force warned fans may be asked to remove items of clothing felt to be concealing their identity as part of the operation ahead of the meeting between Hibs and Hearts at Easter Road.
Ch Supt David Robertson said the powers, which were previously deployed by officers to curb Bonfire Night trouble in the city, had been temporarily introduced following "several incidents of disorder and violence" linked to matches.
The measures will be in place in various areas of the city, including the city centre and Leith, between 10:30 and 16:30 on Sunday.

More than a dozen men were charged following an outbreak of disorder in the city centre after Hibs played Motherwell (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0de985llqo)in October.
Police Scotland said "violence" had been directed at officers during that incident.
Three men were also arrested and charged for carrying or using pyrotechnics when the Edinburgh sides met at Tynecastle on Boxing Day.

Agree. A game we can and will be looking to win and go in with confidence. A home game so have to look to press home the advantage. After us Hearts are the form team in the league, they will come in full of their own confidence and with Shankland, Kabangu and Wilson carry a big threat and more pace than before. The lad Neiunwolf will also need watched. Hard game and we can win but we also have the draw - a draw suits us far more than it does Hearts.

Should be a good game and will need to show the same energy as against Celtic. Clearly important our midfield are right at it and hope the same midfield three can get about in the same way in what has been a tough week. Got to think NMW might be running on empty given how little he has played. Baningime looks their best player at present and also think Wilson’s movement is a threat however they can absolutely be got at defensively and looked very susceptible to crosses in their game at Perth. Think we will create a few chances tomorrow just need to be clinical as we have been in last two matches. Hearts play an open style which imo suits us in breaking quickly. Can see Boyle scoring in these transition plays. Looking forward to it. Prediction 3 1 Hibs

The lad Neiunwolf will also need watched. Hard game and we can win but we also have the draw - a draw suits us far more than it does Hearts.
Want the win, would take a draw

Agree ,want to win it but a draw does suit us more than them .

After the derby .
Hibs …. Killie (A) , St Johnstone (H), Sevco (A) , Dundee (H) .
Hertz …. Ross C (H) , Celtic (A) , Dundee U (H) ,Motherwell (A) .

A draw in the derby isn’t a bad result for us in I think if we are four points ahead of them going into the last four games we have a great chance of finishing ahead of them and it would keep our run going into the cup game.

Definitely. Think it’ll be one of the best atmospheres in a long time. Already buzzing for it now, can’t wait.

The first derby in ages I’m not worried about their physicality or us being bullied. 2-1 Hibs.

Mon Hibs lets keep the unbeaten run going and get a positive result, we all want the 3 points but with our previous results in the league the past few weeks or so then a point would be an ok result.

We all know how these games play out so could go either way.
A point is never an OK result against them.

I like your style but it absolutely is. I’ve been at plenty derbies getting beat when a draw would’ve been ok!

Win is good
Draw is ok

Fully expecting VAR and the refs to be against us tomorrow

They’ll be wary of us having two dubious reckons against us in 2 games and not want us to get another

I would go;
Smith

O'Hora
Rocky
Iredale

Miller
Triantis
NMW
Campbell
N Cadden

Boyle
Bowie.

Our bench options will be numerous and might even include Elie.

Think you will be spot on with that selection.

Really don't think it works that way. Yes, we have had a couple of breaks in the last few weeks but there have been a few VAR decisions against Hibs this season. A Dundee Utd pen against us being an obvious one. There have been a few others and quite a few at the tail end of last season which worked against us getting into the top 6.

VAR in Scotland is an inferior product. With less cameras, there is more doubt in VAR decisions. If it has come to officials and VAR making guesses then what is the point in having it. If they continue with it in Scotland in it's present form you just have to put up & shut up. Critchley had a wee dig in his press conference prior to tomorrow's game saying the Yam are 'due' a few decisions and maybe hoping to influence things. If they get one tomorrow, so be it. It's the way VAR works and as I said, in particular in Scotland.

Much as VAR does seem a bit toy town up here do you really think VAR officials will factor in the last two breaks we have had into final decisions tomorrow.

The Jambos will feel the game is set up for them to be the team that ends our unbeaten run
So let’s work our socks off to make sure that doesn’t happen But this is by no means an easy game so everything g needs to be spot on from selection , subs ,making no crazy mistakes , keeping 11 men on the park and being clinical in front of goal

My opinion with the derby is, especially when we're doing OK is, a blend of 'us'...Josh, Joe, Chris , Youan, Martin ...those that KNOW what it takes to beat them, and KNOWS what it means. plus those that are experienced enough to not worry...Dwight & Junior. I'd even add Rudi---you imagine what it would do to his career if he scored the winner in the 90th (+2) minute?
I'm no worried about Shankland---I'm a little worried about that kid that scored at Easter Road in September

Still feels strange not picking Obita as he is arguably the best left back in the division.

Great that he’s started to contribute again in last few games but he’s not even top 5 left backs in the league.

Pretty mad shout there.

Up there with the most arrogant bunch of fans I've ever seen. With no real reason at all - it is bizarre.

Hope the team turn up and we stuff them. It will be a tough game.

We’ve beaten Hearts (A), Aberdeen (H + A), Celtic (H) and Dundee Utd (A) on our run, with a draw against Rangers (H).

They’ve only beaten Dundee Utd (A) in that time and got a draw against Aberdeen (A). Lost to everyone else (still have Celtic (A) to play).

Table suggests we are a lot closer than we are IMO - we’ve been in far more impressive form knocking top 6 teams about. They have not. We should be winning today and, at worst, drawing.

Sun is shining on Leigh at this very moment - here’s hoping may that continue to be the case.

I think Obita is better as a LWB but also no coincidence IMO that defending has been better since he dropped out.

In terms of LB in a 4, the 4 OF players are all superior IMO - Schlupp, Taylor, Jefte and Yilmaz. Plus Penrice and then Mackenzie at Aberdeen.

Just a wee reminder to anyone driving to the game that there are temporary traffic lights at the Jocks Lodge junction.

They may have improved, but were a bit chaotic when I drove through on Friday.

Our players know now, I believe, as they’ve shown it in recent games too … it doesn’t matter what they have done, as they are about to find out what we can do on the park. Get stuck in today Hibs, and our skill and opportunities will rise to the fore.

Since we beat Hearts at the end of the year they have only lost to Rangers. They're a very different animal to the team that scraped a draw against us at ER and surrendered at Tynecastle.

This will be a lot more difficult than we think. The difference between now and previous derbies is we will be able to match them on desire.

The difference between now and previous derbies is we will be able to match them on desire.I dont think their defence has improved much if at-all, they have started to score goals which has helped them a lot. We have pace and power up front and hopefully that should bring us goals against a static defence that includes the shaky McCart and we should be targeting from the off.

We have been solid at the back for many weeks and we need to keep that up and more this afternoon

Does anyone know if there’s still roadworks causing traffic to merge just after the Asda (Jewel) roundabout, heading toward Sir Harry Lauder rd? PITFA getting to Easter road these days.
