After reading " Anyone at this game ? " thread about a game ( 2 games - home to St Mirren and away to Rangers ) ) from 1950 which so far has had no definite yeses I wondered about slightly younger Hibernian fans . My first game at the Holy Ground was on 2nd January 1969 against Raith ( 3 v0 win with 2 by Joe McBride senior and 1 by Peter Cormack ) . I was in old main stand but I remember north terracing was covered ( " Cave " though from here I later learnt some people called it " shed " ) . Anyway , " Cave " or " Shed " does anyone remember the first game with cover ? Was there any opening ceremony ? Will have been in mid 60s . I remember Cave being closed compleiely for Derby in autumn 1972 but being partially opened as seats were put in for European game against Albanian team FC Besa but have happy memories of Cave in years before ( Joe McBride senior`s goal against Celtic in a 2 v 0 win and John Blackley penalty against Hearts in an East of Scotland Shield Final for example ) .
For another thread : I saw Hibs beat Raith on 2nd January 1969 , 24 hours after a draw at Tynecastle . According to Wiki , we won at Falkirk on 4th January . At a time when clubs had 1 substitute available ( or maybe none ) .

Wasn’t there myself ( still a jambo) but the first game under the Cowshed / Cave was :

6/11/1965 Scottish League Division One

Hibernian 11 v 1 Hamilton Academicals

Stevenson 3
O’Rourke 2
J Scott 2
Cormack
Hogg
Davis
Small og

Eric Stevenson’s first hatrick Wee Jimmy denied a hat-trick thanks to a deflected own goal and Joe Davis scored a rare goal from open play

It is Hibs’ record home victory in a league match and matched their record away victory versus Airdrieonians in 1959

It was the second time in this season that Hibs had scored eleven after taking eleven off Alloa in the League Cup

Hibs Wilson Simpson Davis Stanton McNamee Baxter Hogg Cormack Scott O’Rourke and Stevenson

Great pic. It was never that full after they put the wooden benches in. Little wonder really as the roof only covered part of it and sitting on wet benches in the rain was never going to be popular.

It was a rubbishy, grey depressing thing all round with its weird roof, annoying pillars and wooden benches.

I spent my formative years supporting Hibs on a wooden bench under that roof. Character building.

Is my mind playing tricks on me or did part of the roof not get blown off in high winds in the 90s?

The reason Hart decided to put these daft benches in was after the Drybrough cup semi against Sevco after they rioted when we leathered them 3-0

I went to my first Hibs match in 1963 and certainly remember the first covered game in the Cave. It was often very dodgy weather wise when there was no terracing cover and I found it a great experience being in the Cave especially when Frank Dougan did his Ugy Ugy. It was always the Cave for me but some called it the Shed.

I remember on the roof we had one of Scotland's first 'electronic' scoreboards, quite hi- tech at the time!... didn't last long, think it withered with the storms and high winds you mentioned, must be a picture of that scoreboard somewhere...

When it displayed the other full-time scores they used to scroll along like the Grandstand vidiprinter so you had to wait in suspense. Always a big cheer if Hearts got beat.

Yup, likewise. Started going there in the very early 90s

Scoreboard on the Cave used to cough spark and splutter like something from Back to the Future

Always the cowshed to me too .. rarely did me and my pals go in there. No sure why, think we just liked to f*** around the ground and flick beer can rings and stuff … maybe watched the match sometimes … ok that was when I was pretty young I guess !

Did anyone else flick beer can rings and see who was best at it on the terracing. Or did me and my pals need some help and support back then, to a better way 😂
