View Full Version : What sort of ref would you be?

I’d be petty and take no sheet.
Red cards would be dished out to the traditional teams known for taking liberties in the first challenge just because it’s the first one.

I don't know who my dad is and have a constant cramp in my right wrist.

I'd be in bother from the off. I wouldn't stand for dissent, so would probably be battered by some amateur league bam within a game or two.

Short lived, because I'd treat the Ugly Sisters with the respect they deserve.

Given I'm from the east coast more than likely an overlooked and unsuccessful one.

I'd be instantly demoted for giving penalties against the filth.

One that gave the Merricks F-all.

I’d like to think I’d be better than what we have, and I wouldn’t that awful headmaster-like demeanour all Scottish refs seem to have.

They all have the same face when they’re telling someone off and not one of them seems to have any sort of rapport with the players.

When I was a ref, at the end of a game where I took no nonsense but 11 left on the pitch for both sides, this old boy came up & shouted “ Hey ref here’s seven & six. Give it to your mother & father & tell them to get married!” These were the days when you had to pay seven & six for a Marriage Licence. P.S On the day, the guy’s description was probably accurate.

I wasn't born in Greater Glasgow so the question is null and void. I wouldn't get a chance.

I'd try to play on as much as possible, flash yellows at the slightest hint of time wasting and red card any player making professional fouls and taking players out when they are breaking. I would attempt to buck the trend and book players that don't play for Hibs for the same offences and also award penalties against teams for the same reasons that Hibs are penalised. Pretty much the opposite of the current criteria

Basically would be standing in the tunnel to lead the teams out giving it “right Hibs, intae these Hearts/Rangers/Celtic/Sheep BAS***DS!!”

I don’t like to mention the high profile Assistant Referee from Forres. So I won’t. :greengrin

I'd be a really bad one. However, I'm self aware enough, that I would realise it, and give up quickly.

A corrupt one open to offers.

One man alone isn't going to change scottish football so what's the point. Might as well join the gravy train.

I wouldn't. Anyone being a ref or wanting to be a ref is a weirdo not to to be trusted. Football would be a much, much better game played without any referees.

These are hills I am prepared to die on.

I would undoubtedly be awful but would take great pleasure in refusing to take the advice of VAR even if they were 100% right.

I would be different and go against the flow here.

I'd be scrupulously fair and honest.

To be a referee these days you have to be thick skinned and deaf.
If your colour orientated it helps?
If I was a ref, the first thing I would do is go to each dressing room prior to the start of the game and warn that any sort of cheating or trying to fool me would be a red card!
To many games now players are trying to pull the wool over the refs eyes to gain advantage, I thought VAR would stop it, but it seems more likely to go with it??
We had our own in Ryan P, he would go down clutching his head to get the game stopped, and we all knew what he was up to, but it helped us so it was OK???

I know SFA about the rules of football, but would still be a lot better than the current bunch of Scottish referees.

I would judge every incident precisely to the rules with no leeway. Holding someone in box whilst facing a corner would result in a penalty every time.

I wouldn't give penalties unless it was stonewall. The players are told to lie and cheat in the box.
Also, I'd yellow card players if they make provocative gestures to opposing fans after scoring. It's just not gentlemanly.

Hibs would end up with multiple penalties each game for fouls in the centre circle. Pretty sure VAR would over rule them.
