So what kit did these Edinburgh select teams wear? Before my time.

Sure it alternated between hibs and hearts shirts depending on where the game was played? Could be wrong.
Although looks like Bayern game in 80s it was white shirts and black shorts

I thought the Edinburgh team used red and black (the city’s colours) though I could be totally wrong as well. It was a wee while ago!

Unless there were similar fixtures prior to the 1980s that I don't recall, Hibs or Hearts kits weren't worn.
Think there have only been a couple such games in the last 40/50 years and as that report mentions they didn't really capture the public imagination.
There was also a short-lived Capital Cup pre-season derby for some reason.

I was at the Bayern game. The city of Edinburgh’s colours are black and white which is why a white top with black shorts was worn.

I was there too in the Hearts end; one of the few to celebrate when Willie Irvine opened the scoring
5 Yams, 5 Hibees and Darren Jackson , then of Meadowbank Thistle )ask your grandad) was the starting line up

Yes.The fixtures in the 50/60s were played year about at the two grounds. The Select team was split 6/5 in favour of the home team and wore the home strip. It was always the first game of the new season and attracted a big crowd. Saw some very good games. It kind of dropped away when Burnley won a couple of years in a row.A big percentage of the takings went to the Edinburgh Hospital Broadcast Fund to support the football commentary to the hospitals system.

According to the team at the end of the match report posted above it was Alan Lawrence who was the sole Meadowbank player in the squad that day. Went on to become a thorn in our side at Airdrie and (I think) also had a short spell at Hearts.

I am of the same mind...as a footnote, a friend has just informed me that he did indeed play a part in the game....

I saw an elderly Joe Baker take part in a warm-up game featuring Hibs stars of yesteryear prior to a testimonial. I think it may have been Gordon Hunter's? If I'm thinking of the right match it was against Coventry, who were managed by Gordon Strachan and he played one half of the game for each side (possibly scoring a winning penalty for Hibs).

The photo probably is 1955 but the line ups quoted as being from the 1955 programme are definitely 1959. For example Jim Scott is listed but he wasn’ t signed in 1955. In fact he scored a wonder goal in 1959.

Well spotted Gordon Marshall RIP did not make his debut for Hearts until 1956 as a 17 year old

A wee aside but my memory of Gordon Hunter’s Testimonial is Dion Dublin ex Man United pre Match spending time chatting and signing autographs with Hibs youngsters nothing was too much trouble for him I thought ‘ what a nice guy ‘ He went on to have a decent career with Coventry and Villa before letting himself down signing for Celtic 😀
