i know Sportsound isn't everyone's cup of tea but if we are not playing at home I enjoy tuning in on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of beers. Also listen to most of the daily podcasts when I'm out and about walking. I'm neutral about Kevin's whole move to Rangers thing so my comment below isn't driven by that. He seems to be on these Podcasts about once a week, I'm getting to the point now when he's on I have to switch off. Not because of what he says but his voice is so monotone, downbeat, dull, listening to him is like going to the dentist and once you're strapped in to the chair being told they've run out of anaesthetic. I'm sure he's a good coach and all but I can't see how listening to him drone on would keep a dressing room upbeat. If you know him, have a word will you, a wee bit more upbeat and perky would be good advise.

Ps says in the papers just now he's a new permanent backroom appointment at the Hun, so maybe just perk up a bit when you're doing the Podcasts Kevin, dull and downbeat perfect for that mob.

:agree:

I get it’s just how they are, but I’d struggle to get up for a game listening to a Kevin Thomson or Nick Montgomery type.

He's woeful. 'Footy' 'The Hibees' ' The Jambos' 'As such'. Constant stream of cringey drivel.
Wonderful football player, terrible pundit.

Haha totally agree

I’ve enjoyed listening to off the ball more since Ray Bradshaw joined. Someone who is enthusiastic and gives a different slant. Would be great if they did the same with sportsound

Yep, he's been good. Though I am a fan of Cosgrove too.

Great footballer no doubt I remember as a youngster Mogga asked him to play sweeper and he was absolutely outstanding

Always thought of him as a Hibby despite’ I would walk barefooted along the M8 on broken glass blah ! blah ! blah !

Final straw came on Hun TV The Rangers v Hibs Tommo cocommentator ‘ It was a pleasure to play for this great club and those wonderful fans ‘ 🤮

That and as mentioned above his monotone dull dulcet tones and his endless cliches ‘ The boy’s got that in his locker ‘

This boy has turned full tonto native or is he just playing to the audience and taking the orange pound ?

I've met him a good few times and chatted to him. He's a nice guy, and has a good football brain on him. I respect the fact a lot of the coaching with kids he does is mostly voluntary. His view on it is, he made his money as a player and wants to give back to the next generation.

Obviously he has an alliance to both hibs and the zombies. He was a terrific player for both clubs. A lot of folk didn't like his parting comments, which is fair enough. He and Collins were both in the wrong in the way the situation was handled. Collins probably was more to blame letting things get out of hand the way they did giving the fact he is 17 years older. Should have been more wiser about that type of situation.

Always remember the clearance in the dying seconds of the 2-2 game at tynecastle he made at the post. Small things like that contributed to us winning the cup in 2016.

Can’t argue with any of that.

As an angry teenager Thomson was my fifteen minutes' hate.

Still not particularly fond of him - he's one of them now no matter what he says - but as noted above he had his part in 2016 and that alone probably pays his dues. And the £2 million we got for him I suppose.

I agree with a lot of this. My boy trained with him for awhile, and i have his number still on my phone i think, and he was great with me and more importantly for the kids.

But on the other hand he’s just one of those guys that says daft things and makes stupid, embarrassing choices. He’s articulate and sells himself well, but i just dont think hes very bright. Cant ever see him managing.

Met him loads as well and don't doubt for a second KT is Hibs through and through. Was pissed off with him for years for the Rangers stuff and still think he's a bit too hunny, but I get why, he was there for years.

My biggest and main issue with him is his he calls it 'footy'

In all honesty I hope he goes on to have a cracking career, just not if he ever comes up against Hibs.

You probably could. Allegiance to both hibs and rangers? Just on what level does that work?

I'm sorry. He is one of them. I'd probably have less against him if folk stopped trying to pass him off as some big Hibby.

He really isn't.

I thought he'd sat in front of me today, but the boy went downstairs just before half time, and it wasn't him.

Signing for Rangers (or Celtic) isn't a stupid choice for most footballers. It's a financially astute move that most young Scottish footballers would jump at whether we like it or not.

Thomson's problem was the way he talked about it. If he'd just said this is too big a chance for me to turn down, I'm thinking of my family's future etc it would have been reasonable enough. When talking about Mo Johnston going to Ibrox in his autobiography, Pat Stanton admits that he'd also have signed for Rangers if they'd come in for him and says football is ultimately just a job like any other. Johnston's problem, he says, was banging on about how much he loved Celtic before doing the dirty on them.

I think three years is more than enough to develop an attachment to a club. 137 games for Hibs and 109 games for Sevco. Not much in it.

The night we beat Celtic in the Quarter final of the 2003-04 league Cup was one of the best midfield performances I've seen from a Hibs player. He hadn't even been in the team that long. Scored a superb goal to win it.

Headline in the paper the next day was

"KING KEV IS A BOBBY DAZZLER"

My nephew and niece were at school with him. No question he grew up a Hibs fan. Similar, I'd say, to Craig Paterson or Ian Muray who also signed for Rangers but have always remained Hibbies. Unlike, say, Colin Stein and Kenny Miller who were self-confessed Rangers fans.

Fans of other clubs might claim they could never sign for Rangers but it's different when football's your living and you go on to forge bonds with your fellow players at your new club.

Whenever I listen to him he loves to mention how ‘humble he is’ gets very annoying. The guy expected to have a big job by now after one year at Kelty with the biggest budget then jumping ship when he knew it would be difficult in league one.

Aye - he absolutely loves himself.

Always wary of guys who claim to be ‘loyal’, ‘humble’, ‘honest’, ‘a gent’ etc all the time - why would you do that?

Hit the nail on the head. In my career I have upped my game several times. I have took on more roles. The incentive for me doing so was because I want to make as much money as I can to have a secure future. It's no different from a footballer. He was 22 when he left us, not many 22 year olds are fully mature adults, especially when all one has known is being a footballer.
