Got a stag do in March and going to Napoli v AC Milan. Seems a popular trip these days with McTominay & Gilmour there. Anyone been, got any tips?

Tell them we massacred them a few decades ago and you’d like the best seat in the house.

Was there recently, loved Naples. Wear Napoli colours, I picked up a mctominay shirt and the locals were very friendly. I was there during a train strike so walked to and from the stadium but I think there’s a station that goes near the ground.
Big game so get there 90 minutes before KO, takes about an hour to get in due to big queues.

was there to see them lift their 3rd serie A, one of the greatest trips of my life...
Phenomenal city and club, stadium a bit rusty. Easy to get to stadium on the metro.
have you got tickets ?
Should be good game - North V South, plenty at stake, Napoli contenders this year and Milan not so, so might give Milan a stuffing and if so you're in for a right treat.
Make sure to go see the, Spanish Quarter and the Maradonna Shrine, try no tto go on match day if possible as can get v busy, and go to Bar nilo - Cafe which has a strand of Diego's hair (u must buy a coffee).
Naples is like no other city. Forza Napoli Sempre...

I went in March 23 to see them play Lazio. It was a cracking trip. The city is absolutely football daft. It’s infectious. The weather was great and there was loads to do besides the football. Tickets were easy get to get but we had to pay a fair mark up. Was about €50 each.

Thanks, yeh we have tickets. We're doing one of those football day trip thigs as there's about 20 of us. Means we can sit together etc. We get a tour of the city, all the Maradona locations then, pre-match we can either go to a nice restaurant or we can be taken to one of the Ultras bars. Looks like no away fans will be allowed but I believe there's quite a lot of friction between the different ultras so should still be 'edgy'

Is it easy enough to do on your own or would you recommend an organised trip?

When I was on holiday in Sorrento, we were going to go to Pompeii on an organised trip from our hotel. We were advised by other guests that it was very easy and much cheaper to go under our own steam. We got a train directly there and paid at the entrance. Public transport was great and inexpensive.

Do it by yourself by getting a train all the way along the coast from Napoli main train station then pay at the door. Train also stops at the other town buried under the ash whatever it's called.
You can do Vesuvious in much the same way.

Pompeii is well worth a visit, but check out Herculaneum, it's another ancient Roman settlement, it's similar to Pompeii but better preserved and less hectic 👍
*I can't remember the bus number but there were local buses from central Naples to just outside the Herculaneum entrance.

Ultras having coach loads of day trippers turning up at their bar on match days. What's the word coming to.

Worth mentioning again that you need to be at the ground over an hour before kick-off, the queues are hundreds of yards long, and make sure you have some ID, they check at the gates.
For Pompeii, get the Circumvesuviano train from Centrale, only takes 40 mins or so.
Napoli is a fantastic city, loads to do whether you're into high art or just a good bevvy. Don't forget to try the deep-fried pizza.

Eating out , go to a Trattoria rather than ristorante - fantastic Pizza from the home of pizza, 50 years since I was there and I did remind the locals of that great night at Easter Rd.- they knew who the Hibs were.

I've no idea what the word is coming to. I really enjoyed the mad capped radgeness of it. Sadly missed British TV institution. Oh and no coaches involved, it's a walking tour pre-match.

Don't bother with the organised trips but ff there are a few of you it's well worth getting a guide when you get there. Pompeii is a huge site and they'll show you lots of the best bits with interpretation that makes the whole thing hang together much better. Don't get a guide outside the entrance, the official ones are hired inside the gates. Ask when you buy the entrance tickets. We went about 18 months ago and the charge was €150. The guide spent over 3 hours showing us around so it was well worth it.
For the game, get there early as others have said. Took us 45 mins to get in. We were going to walk out to the ground but the ko time ended up shifting to late evening so we got the train to Campi Flegrei which was straightforward and a few hundred yards from the stadium. Bit of a scrum getting back on afterwards, I think there were only a couple of trains due that late but for a normal ko time it would be fine I think.
Oh, and sfogliatelle, best pastries ever.
