Bit of a dull draw that doesn’t really give a huge chance of any of the hardest teams going out but we can’t complain and there’s still “easy” ties to be had in the next round if we make sure we get there.

we got part of the stand when there in the championship and the terracing goes around partly opposite the stand as well, can't see why they would change that

The terrace opposite the main stand is now covered and I think partially seated, have a feeling it's capacity is a bit reduced as a result.

Going to be a tough game for us this one, they let in less than a goal a game in the league and currently sit second. But in the end it's not a premiership team and we could have drawn a lot worse. If we are serious about winning the cup then we have to look on this as an eminently winnable tie.

Could be a potential banana skin but very winnable of course.

No, pretty sure it's been designed to be a wee bit of seating and mostly terracing ...in the wee film a previous poster put up the barriers and terrace look like they have been smartened up, so it will be as you see it here.

Always a good ground for atmosphere before they covered that side of the ground, so it should be really good with a full house on the day ... one of the best away days in Scottish football IMO.

PS .... There's a barrier from top to bottom half way along that terrace, so guessing we will get 50% of it.

If it's a weekend fixture it's an absolute certainty we'll sell out. Even if it's not we probably still will. Apparently it holds just north of 12,000 which I find a wee bit surprising, so chances are we'll get a minimum of 5000 tickets. It's hard to say. The only capacity stat I could find says it holds 12,000 but I find that a wee bit hard to believe with the new development which I think cut down the terracing a bit. I reckon the end sheds probably hold about 2K each and with a quarter ( not half as I said before ) of the terrace opposite the main stand, and a wee bit of the main stand itself, we are probably looking at between 3 and 4 thousand tickets.

It would be a tasty tie anyway but these connections add extra interest with some old friends who'll no doubt be all the more focused and determined for the pride that friendship entails.
With Ayr riding high in their league this will be a tough tie indeed. We could have got a much worse draw though so I'm relatively happy - hope we can keep the bounce going over the next couple of matches and go into this game with confidence.
Edit - You're right about their home form btw - have only twice failed to win this season on their own patch!

Don’t remember 2011 being knocked out by them at allThe 0-0 in the first game might be one of the worst games of football I've ever seen. There was barely anyone at Easter Road. The second one you just knew we were going to make an arse of it, the boy who scored must've turned on the ball about 10 times in the box before shooting and no one put a tackle in. Game was live on sky and I'm sure they were in the second division at the time too.

We got knocked out by Ross County in a replay up in Dingwall; who were in the first division, a year earlier under Yogi as well.

Tough draw need to be at our best

Happy memories of a League Cup Quarter Final at Somerset Park a comfortable 2-0 win with goals from Keef Keef Keef Keef and Pat McGinlay on our way to lifting the League Cup 1991/92

Not so happy memories of a freezing cold Hampden night in 2002 League Cup semifinal when Le God’s dire Hibs side struggled eventually losing out 0-1 AET and Hughes McGinlay and Lovering came back to haunt us

Anyways can anyone name all the players in this image from memory lane taken 1975 ?

In a Scottish football context they're not 'wee'. They were actually in the Premier Division (which was only 10 clubs) when I first started following football and have won the equivalent of the Championship half a dozen times. I'd say they're mid-sized.

And as mentioned on here they've had our number on more than one occasion.

Suppose the positive is the visiting clubs get more gate money (is it not split 50/50?) and they don't need to worry about the old firm fans wrecking their stadiums/towns. Unfortunately for both even at home they weren't likely to win.

Those 2 games were dire. Long trips for 2 insipid performances with laughable goals conceded to cost us both games.

Iirc we conceded a late goal in the first game v County after being both 1-0 and 2-1 up and it took an unreal block from Ian Murray in the last second to get us a replay at all. Replay was a Graeme Smith special in the last minute. We played Falkirk the Saturday after in the league and I gave it a miss, the first game I had missed in almost 4 years, predictably we won 3-1:faf:

Just over 6000 at the first Ayr game which puts some of the moaning about the expected crowd on Saturday past into perspective. We would probably take 6000 to Ayr now if the tickets were available. In the replay I think the aforementioned Ian Murray is still trying to untie the knots he got himself in trying to defend the goal.

It was some laugh supporting Hibs in the late 00s and early 10s:greengrin

He did indeed. Wanted to buy his home town club with the fairly modest dream of turning AUFC into a mainstay of the top flight in a new stadium. Board rejected him for some fairly trivial reasons so Murray turned his attention to Ibrox and took his ambitions to a whole new level.

Could have been worse but definitely NOT an easy tie.

Ayr are 2nd in the Championship and have only failed to win twice on their own patch this season - that's FORTRESS Somerset Park there!

Add to that - we are the only top tier side bar the Jambos not to get a home tie. You could probably say that Hertz are the only top tier side with a tougher tie this round -given they have been drawn away to top tier St Mirren.

All told its no wonder the press are wetting their kex about this game - its the biggest chance of an upset bar none in the draw and they just love a giant killing in the cup! Money will be on SDG and the boys to disappoint them - but no way is it an easy tie!

On main terracing but nearer Dunbar end so mainly surrounded by Huns in pre strict segregation days . Think we were about 10 points behind with 4 games to go so a win ( we were robbed by disallowed goal at 1 v 0 ) would have kept our title chances going for at least another week .
Interesting seeing the reserve team in newspaper cutting . Wonder why Blackley was with reserves but missed 2 first team games . Almost whole reserve team played regularly for first team at one point .
Ayr were a good team in 70s and early 80s . When we hammered them 8 v 1 a week after the League Cup win in December 1972 that was probably as good a result as the 7 v 0 in Gorgie a couple of weeks later . I remember being at game with about 5000 at ER when they beat us in League Cup in about 1981 . I think the Fleming ( Rikki ) in Ayr line up in cutting went on to play for us in late 1970s when Turnbull changed to an ultra defensive team in some games - played with 3 centre halfs in some games .
Game on 7th February will be a tough one . If there were still replays , I think we`d probably be delighted to take it to a second game .

Ah that 8-1 game pure football delight

Ally MacLeod the Ayr Manager had a plan to contain our attacking spearhead it lasted 69 seconds when Sodjer put us 1-0 up

Ally MacLeod said it was the best display of attacking football he had ever seen

Remember the wee lawnmower contraption with the Youth Players showing off our trophies ?

We thought it would always be like this

Will have to be at our very best as it is played to a finish

Looks like we have been given the seating in the new stand. Ayr fans not happy about it.

According to Ayr we are getting 2800 tickets to begin with, then get the remaining 700 in the North Terrace/Seating if we sell the initial 2800. Maximum split is 6000 home fans and 3500 away fans.

Looks like Ayr could get the 700 if they get close to selling out, but if not they will go to Hibs.

This seems a bit of a mess.

Hibs announced that tickets go on sale to season ticket holders tomorrow and general sale this Friday.

However, it seems Ayr have just released the whole away allocation on general sale.

I've just purchased mine.

I don’t think Hibs can do anything about it when other team selling. They have tried to limit who has access to the link but no way for Ayr to note who is a season ticket holder or whatever. Relying on folk being honest and only going on at the assigned time and that ain’t going to happen.

Just bought my two there. Both season ticket holders, so only 30 minutes early, but given I missed out on Tynecastle despite being on in plenty time, I'm quite happy to get it done.

How are you getting them?

There not on the Hibs website and on Ayr’s there’s only tickets for the home end?

How could I not see that on their website?!

Thanks for the help folks, was freaking out there. Bit of a shambles, waited ins. Queue for about 15 minutes, ordered my 4 tickets and then got kicked out at the payment screen. Luckily when I logged back in I didn’t have to queue again.

I hate technology like this!

Fiasco this. Noticed this on Hibs website as well

"The Club have been given a maximum allocation of 3,321 tickets"

"Tickets are available to purchase in the following areas:

West Stand (seating) – 338 tickets available
Railway End (standing behind the goal) – 2,439 tickets available"

That's 2777 tickets, not 3321, not that it matters because none are visible to me anyway.

The additional amount will be allocated to us should we sell the initial 2777.

Confusing but it does make sense. It's just that not all of the "maximum allocation" is currently "available to purchase".
