View Full Version : Not letting Boyle back on

What was the deal with the ref not letting Boyle back on the pitch after getting treatment?

Ball was other side of the pitch and he wouldn't let him on.

Think that's the longest I've ever seen a player stopped from entering play.

Think it may have been due to blood. A player can't come back on until the bleeding has come to a stop.

Just the ref being an arse and no 4th official to get involved on that side

It was nothing to do with blood or he would have had to have changed his shirt. It was just the ref making the game about himself. He’s a terrible ref.

Boyle tried to go off on the dugout side as he’d need to be checked for blood before coming back on, the centre of attention made him go off on the other side so we had to wait for the ball to go out to get him back on

I thought it was Matt Hancock reffing the game. Either him or Randal from Recess.

Wee dweeb.

Is it not something to do with only allowing the player back on when the team whose player it was have possession ?

So until Hibs got possession he wasn’t getting him on.

Utterly Bizarre to be honest. The ball was nowhere near him

I saw the Hancock resemblance too but he didn’t have a sly fumble and smooch with anyone so knew it couldn’t be him.

I’ve never seen such a wait to permit a player to return to the pitch.

A bizarre few moments.

I think the Ref was making a point that he didn't think there was too much in Boyle going down and he then having to stop play for it, so he decided to take his time letting him back on

Sitting in the east, watching Boyle desperate to come on and the referee repeatedly holding his hand up, indicating not yet, it was deffo a check for blood. When there was a suitable break in play the referee asked the East Stand linesman to check for blood, after he did, Martin came on.
At the time I was raging, calling the referee for everything but with hindsight, I'm confident he just wanted to make sure there was no blood after contact.

That ref is the cretin that should have been sacked along with the VAR for the debacle when we played Dundee Utd at ER earlier in the season

How could the ref see blood? He was a good distance away.

Players have to remain off the pitch, after treatment, for a minimum of 30 seconds before the referee allows them to return.

Certainly seemed more than 30 seconds. 🙄

He went to my school and I can confirm he's been a dickhead since he was a child

Football needs to make a rule change.

With Cadden and Boyle off the pitch you should be allowed a temporary sub as we were down to 10 players twice.

Should be a “blood sub” and then they leave the pitch when player returns.

Think it would make the game more interesting also and make sure subs are always actually ready to go on.

Exactly, that's why after a suitable break in play the ref got the linesman to check Boyle.

If so it begs the question why the ref insisted he go off to the East side with only 1 official there

Allowing him 15 seconds to walk off to the main stand side was surely more sensible than us being punished further due to an injury?

The ref was a dick head but he followed the rules this time. Because there had been a cut it had to be checked before he was allowed to come back on

Of course, if he had been allowed to go off at the other side it could have been checked by the 4th official

'Scuse my ignorance, is that an actual rule (or law) or a guideline?
Also interested to know what the actual rule is, if there is one, for players who go down injured and cause the ref to stop play, which so often is for a simulated head-knock. Any such players in these circs in my book should be off the park for at least a full minute. Might make some of the cheats think twice. And if it's a genuine knock then the team medics should be taking at least a full minute to properly assess the player on the touchline.

The ref yesterday seemed like one of those guys who seem to rise to the top in Scotland. Probably knows every appendix of the rules word perfect, talks to the players like they are schoolboys but has evidently never played the game and has no clue how to manage it.

So many good referees lost lower down the levels because their faces don't fit and idiots like that make it to the top.

Thanks. That makes sense, right enough. 👍

I was just about to post that its strange that we don't see threads about poor refs on here when we're on a good run 😂

Guy beside me says the new rule is if a player goes off for treatment and no booking for the offence, the player has to wait 30 seconds before coming back on. News to me 🤔but would explain why Boyle had to wait.

It's a rule, as far as I'm aware, and applied across all associations.

It's a rule that needs to change, allow players to be checked and then come back on immediately like they do in rugby.
