Wouldn't it be great if SDG can complete the double, winning the Scottish Cup as a Captain and a Manager of the same club.

Can't be many footballers who have done so, especially at non-Old Firm teams.

It would be a good time to win it as the Scottish Cup winners qualify for the play-off round of the Europa League, with the failsafe of a Conference League berth should they lose that.

One game at a time though. First up is Clydebank.

Think Turnbull is the only Hibs player to have also won a trophy as the club's manager. Collins obviously won a trophy as boss but not as a Hibs player.

Did Stein win anything as a player at Celtic? McNeill, Hay, Burns (?), Lennon and probably others have won trophies as Celtic players and managers. At Rangers? Maybe Waddell and Greig?

Ally McCoist? (Scottish Third Division).

My views on the cups are not shared by most , all the emphasis is too much on the league, it should be on the only 2 trophies we can win .we should always play our best team ,
not just give fringe players gametime.example what SDG did in the Kelty match still wrangles with me , 6 changes ,we lose and end up with Celtic away and we’re out.albeit we have a favourable draw in the first game of the SC at his year the emphasis should now be on the cup run now.SDG would go down in folklore if he brought it home even if we finish bottom half.

We should take the cups seriously. Especially if they can lead to European competition. We don’t win them frequently enough to take them lightly.

However, they are a domestic matter. We care. World football doesn't. I want hibs represented on the big European stage evey season. It is where the money is. The exposure. We need to look after our league placing for that reason.

We're big enough up here that if we're managed to the best we can be then we compete in cup and league. The challenge is managing European football as well. A challenge we struggle to handle well enough for long enough. A challenge which I'd always welcome.

I'm not sure your views aren't shared by most. They're certainly shared by me. I think we should go all out to try and win both cups every season.

1991, 2007 and 2016 meant far more to me than any 3rd place finish does. And the lost cup finals, particularly the ones we really should have won, hurt me more than finishing 8th or 9th in the league.

Looking forward to seeing how far we go this season. Based on the last ten matches, we are the 2nd best team in the SPFL.

Not at the moment, only Premier Sports & BBC have the rights to show SC ties

Aye. Trying to keep myself in check at the moment.

If somehow someone puts Celtc out, we are winning this. If nobody puts them out and it's us and them in the Final, it's 90 minutes, etc.

Not doing well at keeping myself in check.

I’d happily never play in Europe again if we won a national trophy every few years. Couldn’t care less what ‘world football’ thinks.

Our Scottish Cup run starts tomorrow.

Hibs head coach David Gray wants his players to make their own special Scottish Cup memories having experienced his "greatest moment on a football pitch" in the 2016 final.

Gray headed home the winning goal to end Hibs' 114-year wait to win the tournament before lifting the trophy as captain.

The former defender leads Hibs into his first Scottish Cup tie as head coach on Saturday when they welcome West of Scotland Premier Division leaders Clydebank to Easter Road.

"I don't think it's about making it about me at all," he said. "The reality is that because I was part of a team that was fortunate enough to actually achieve something here in a cup competition, I'm able to say that 'it is achievable, we've done it', and how good it can be when that happens.

"It's the greatest moment I've ever experienced on a football pitch, personally. But also for the club, for the supporters, for everyone involved, they're great moments to be involved in. And as players, that's what you look back on.

"Now that I've retired from playing, I look back on what I achieved in my career.

"It's a very lucky position to be in and I feel very privileged to be able to do that, especially when you think back to some of the great players who maybe didn't win anything in their careers.

"To be able to say I have is fantastic. Obviously, we're a long way away from that at the moment. But at the start of every season, it is an objective of ours."

Gray is not going to select a second-string side for the match, despite the gulf between the sides in the Scottish league pyramid.

"I think with the amount of games and fixtures we've had, there is an opportunity to put a bit of freshness, but it will certainly be a really strong side," he added.

"It will be a tough tie. So, it will be a real strong side we put out with full ambition to win the game."

What a legend SDG is! Is he ready to repeat 2016 as a manager?

Whilst sort of disappointed that The Rangers are out (I would love to have seen SDG beat them again at Hampden), it does open up the draw. Avoid Celtic and we've a great chance as we shouldn't be worried about the rest.
