Over Christmas and New Year, I can't remember us doing do well? I remember some cracking one off results but nothing like the consistency we managed.

Yup, December/January have long been the "wheels come off a reasonable start to the season" time of the year.
Seems to be the reverse this year after our diabolical August - November

Said the same at the game, I can’t remember a festive period this good for us.
We deserve it after what they put us through August to November

Just looking at the bbc league list,
Hibs... the only team without a loss over the last six games,
jeez, never seen that in my lifetime mid season

I think it's fair to point to the game against Aberdeen at ER as the one that turned our whole season on it's head. An absolute determination not to lose that one, and largely shown the same determination since.
18 points from last 9 games. One point behind the team in sixth. I did not expected that.

2 wins from away trips to todders and the pink shelter as well as a draw against currant buns. Great effort in all of the games too. Superb run

If someone had said to me prior to the Aberdeen game at ER and after the defeat to Dundee, that we would be 8 points off third by the time we had played the Huns at home at the start of January, I'd have asked to have some of what they were having.
Long may this continue

You've got to hand it to SDG. He must have felt the pressure but hung in there and turned it around with a group of players that just weren't turning up at the start of the season. I admit I was one of the ones thinking he should be put out of his and our misery after the St Mirren and Dundee games, but fair dos - some grit to stick with it.

I’m sure there will be other comparable ones over the 150 years but the festive period that always sticks in my mind was 1972/1973 - for obvious reasons (for those old enough to remember!).
Started in Nov 1972 with League Cup semi win against Rangers, then continued through to the fateful game on 6th Jan 1973 against East Fife (1-0 win, top of the league, Brownlie leg break).
8 wins, 1 draw. Included were score lines such as 2-1 at Hampden, 8-1 week after at ER versus Ayr Utd, a certain 0-7 score on New Years Day against some bunch of losers from west Edinburgh.
Sadly for the remainder of that season, we couldn’t continue that form.

We went top of the league with the 7-0 win. That team was good enough to win the title but Brownlie's leg break in the next game and Edwards' lengthy suspension exposed our rather shallow squad. In saying that, we were still going strong into March before throwing away a first-leg quarter final lead to Hadjuk Split in the Cup Winners Cup. Don't think we won a game after that. Turnbull lost a bit of faith in the team and we were never quite as good again.

Was just about to post the same we also molocated a very good Aberdeen side 3-2 the week before 0-7 I can vividly recall Alan Gordon’s diving header from a Duncan cross we were all over them and you just knew someone was going to catch it we did not realise how soon

100%, the December 9th fixture was the League Cup final. Even in the draw at Parkhead, Hibs led 1-0 at half-time and was giving them a roasting, with Alex Edwards completely dominating proceedings. At half-time, Wee Mickey complained of feeling a little unwell and ET hooked him when all he needed was a cuddle [not Eddie's style].
2 December Falkirk H 3–0 Stanton, Gordon, Duncan 10,606
16 December Ayr United H 8–1 Cropley, Gordon (3), O'Rourke (3), Stanton 12,510
23 December Celtic A 1–1 Gordon 42,343
30 December Aberdeen H 3–2 Stanton, O'Rourke, Gordon 22,229
1 January Heart of Midlothian A 7–0 O'Rourke (2), Gordon (2), Duncan (2), Cropley 35,929
6 January East Fife H 1–0 Gordon

It's recorded as being around the 18k mark but official attendances back then were often significantly lower than actual numbers in the ground.

Yeah always stuck with me that going by the old Easter Road that crowd looked closer to 26-27k that day of days

Think you’re right. I’ve had it stuck in my mind it was quoted as 17062, which even then was a big crowd against a ‘lesser’ team. However, completely agree, if that picture is from that East Fife game, the crowd looks at least 10K more.

Coming off the back of the game on new years day, and with Hibs scoring goals by the bucketload, genuinely in contention for the title, and the league cup already in the bag from a few weeks before... 17k or 18k would seem a bit low. The feel good factor amongst hibs fans must have been sky high

Yes, that's the crowd I remember it being, which was massive for a game against East Fife in that era. People certainly picked the big games to go in numbers, and 12,000 was a very healthy crowd when we weren't playing the old firm, Hearts, or Aberdeen. Scottish Cup & European games attracted bigger crowds than domestic league games back then as well.

i was at all those games as a 14 year old plus the game after east fife which was at tannadice. Des Bremner made his debut replacing John Brownlie and we lost 1-0
crowd vs east fife I recall was 17,100 which was exceptional against lowlyopposition. We really struggled in that game after the free scoring in previous games
i think Herriot was dropped after the hadjuk split away game we lost 3-0 and team also got food poisoning
turnbull wanted to strengthen the team and brought in Harper from Everton who had played for him previously when he managed Aberdeen to scottish cup victory in 1970

Sure that the Hadjuk game was the last time that the Tornadoes started a match together.

Defo from that game any other fixture before or since against East Fife would be back to normalcy
Interesting that behind Arthur is ex Hibee Bobby Duncan who played for East Fife that day

Thanks Billy. Memory playing tricks. Of course Brownlie had a broken leg!
