just noticed that there is 20-40cm of snow forecast for Saturday night / Sunday daytime. with winds also forecast it's highly possible the game could be off. could be a good thing for us given our injuries and need to recruit!
definitely a case of watching the forecast closely I think!

Have this every game these days. It’s Scotland in the winter. It doesn’t look very nice but there isn’t all that snow forecast in Leith.

the summary chart states that but the actual forecast video shows an early weather warning for heavy snow - I'm praying for it as I think we'll be in a better position squad wise in a few weeks!
selfishly I also live higher up in rural midlothian so I'm likely to be affected even if Edinburgh isn't!

Ffs not this weather panick stations malarkey again! It's winter expect a bit of snow. It will be fine, chill, in fact the forecast for Saturday is cold with clear skies, Sunday sleet showers in morning turning to rain

Unless it’s extreme game should be on, if you can’t play in wintry weather why have a winter league 🤷*♂️.
Been saying this for years, if it’s came to a point about safety etc to players and fans and disrupts travel why not just switch to summer months or skip the extreme weather months.

no panic here...just responding to the forecast I just watched and tbh more interested in folks views as to whether it'd be preferable to play them now (off back of good win v Celtic but with injuries) or later (when both teams may be at full strength)
I'm leaning towards wanting the game off if the weather is bad enough as I think we'll be stronger than we are now. FWIW I'm in the same camp as you re games should be played if its possible, and I'm not one to over-react to a bit of snow!

Any word on how many tickets they're getting?
I remember as a wee lad shovelling snow off the easter road pitch on the friday along with loads of other volunteers to get a game against Motherwell on.Proper snow.

I've been to plenty games against the Old Firm at Easter Road where I've seen fans of theirs walking back to their flats on Easter Road, you're walking behind them and the keys come out and in they go to the stair. Absolutely baffling.

Who would have though it, especially in January?

The game won't be called off... but I'm with the OP in that I would prefer it to be postponed a couple of weeks, to give some players time to recover from injuries.
I dread to think how the team that struggled against ten-man St Johnstone will cope with an on-form Hun side.

Not for hoping the game is off. We’ve been on a good run, the players should have some confidence about them, go out and have a go at Rangers on Sunday. Hopefully the players aren’t of a similar mindset to some of the comments here! Besides, you could have a rescheduled game and have players suspended, different players injured or whatever.

yeah we've been on a good run, but the last 2 games in particular have been tight affairs, we've missed Youan whether injured or being protected pre selling him, we missed Joe yesterday and with the option of getting Bowie back and / or new signings, I don't feel I'm being unduly negative by thinking we'd be in a stronger position in a couple of weeks time? Chances are the players are a bit knackered and may well welcome the break...thought there were a few on Thursday that looked tired tbh.

Chances are we lose the game irrespective of when we play it. What happens if it’s rearranged and Bowie is still out, Newell has had to have something done to clear up the injury he’s been playing with for months, we’ve suffered another couple of injuries in the games we’ve played in the period in between. Do we just keep hoping it gets pushed back? Up to the management team to get the best out of what they have available and I actually think, on the back of the last few weeks, they’ll do that. The game will actually suit players like Boyle a bit more than the last couple against team who aren’t particularly interested in getting up the park.
There’s also the consideration that things applying to us regarding players coming back, new players coming in etc will apply to them as well.

who's to say which of us is right? we're both hypothesising! what you failed to comment on is the point about recruitment - it's much more likely we'll have a stronger squad in a couple of weeks than we do now, which is why I'm sticking with my point. if it is played, obviously I hope you're right! my main worry is that our upturn in form has coincided mostly with youan playing much more positively - we missed him the last two games, so whether it's him or his replacement I'd be keen to face them at full strength.

We may or may not have a stronger squad by then, who knows. The same applies to them.
We won’t be at full strength on Sunday, neither will they with the likes of Butland and Tavernier missing. We get on with what we have. I just find it a bit ironic that someone who quite routinely posts about others being negative and so on is now running scared of a game because we have a few players missing. Not keeping the faith in the squad after all?
We also played well against them at Ibrox and the vast majority of the players that started that day will be available on Sunday.

haha that's quite funny - one thing I can't be accused of is giving up on the team! definitely not running scared, just mooted that a postponement might work in our favour...
I do get tired with others negativity you're right, but it's not about questioning or critiquing it's the absolute full on, incessant, over the top reactionary stuff that frustrates me. it's a footy forum, of course there's going to be some negativity, I just believe in keeping it balanced.

here's hoping for a good performance and result win Sunday - and that your new found optimism continues too

I never said anything about being optimistic., I’ll be surprised if we get something. But we went to Ibrox and played well minus Newell, Boyle, Nicky Cadden and Bowie. And that was before the change of shape that has been beneficial as well. Think the point is that you’re always going to be short of players somewhere. Hoping our improved attitude can get us through and get us something.

I avoid going into town now if possible but recently have had reason to go along Princes Street a few times on a bus. It is an absolute embarrassment, shops for let, graffiti, boarded up windows, shops selling cheap tartan tat. If I was a tourist I would be shocked that this street is allegedly one the most beautiful in Europe. Edinburgh Council should hang their heads in shame.

Change the licensing.
Shopping habits have changed massively in recent years.
Allow alfresco dining/bars with suitable infrastructure, that view to the south with the gardens and castle can't be beat.
If there's decent hospitality in the area, quality shops will follow/remain.

I dread to think how the team that struggled against ten-man St Johnstone will cope with an on-form Hun side.
The Huns will be psychologically boosted by their win against Celtic, but I’m confident that they didn’t win it because they played well. I think that’s the worst Celtic performance I’ve seen for years and they allowed the Huns to run all over them. The number of awful passing errors they made was unbelievable and, for a team walking away with the title, they looked like rabbits caught in the headlights. Having said that, I think we’ll do well to get something out of the game.

Its the same in large/iconic cities around the world.
In the last year or so I have been in Bordeaux, London, Paris (twice), Glasgow, and while all of them look good in some key areas, if you go a street or so back its a similar story everywhere.
The days of big shopping streets (iconic castle view or not) are over, my son lives in Glasgow and its as much of a mess as here in many areas.
While the Champs Elysee might still be iconic, there were hundreds of boarded up shops and restaurants where we were living (Monmartre).
London is brilliant and a tip !
The biggest issues in all of these cities is the cost of homes to buy or rent - same as here.

EZReminds me of a boxing day game between Lincoln City & Fulham decades ago. Played in snow and wind and you could hardly see the pitch, lines were cleared and the game went ahead.
0-0 when Fulham fans started singing for the orange ball, it was duly done, Lincoln went on to score 4, Fulham fans then sang to bring back the white ball.

It’s very treacherous still, I’ve had the dogs out round western harbour area and been round to the Asda, not one single pavement round here has been touched so everywhere is slippy as ****, and it is still ice cold. No doubt the pitch will be playable but if the area around the stadium is similar it’ll be at risk of a call off

Remember the friendly against Man Utd after we got the undersoil heating. We had to open the terracing due to numbers that turned up. The terracing was like an ice rink and the roads and pavements not much better. Health and safety what Health and safety.
One of the few occasions I went in the 'seated enclosure' behind the goals, because they'd announced the terracing was closed.
It's a bit of a dump these days. Great, natural vantage points and castle etc in the centre still looks spectacular but Princes St is dreadful, as are the Bridges and Lothian Road.

I was in the Dunbar End. It was like Murrayfield Ice Rink. I only lasted to half time before hypothermia set in.

My dad has fell on three separate occasions on the way to games when there been icy conditions (all games against Rangers weirdly enough) and it has really put him off going to games when there is the slightest hint of it being icy.
Cannae blame him. When my pal was waiting on the ambulance someone else fell right beside them, smacked their head and also needed hospital attention. It was ridic that the council didn't anticipate the risk, it's almost like football fans don't count when it comes to public safety.

Would be a shame if someone were to say.... trip over the plug for the undersoil heating. Just sayin.
I disagree on Glasgow. It's city centre is far superior to Edinburgh's now IMO.
Glasgow used to be the poster child for urban regeneration in the 80s and 90s but its now as bad as its ever been after 25 years of mis-management.
It was one motivator for me leaving.

Council hadn't bothered gritting the pavements and it was walking on sheets of ice
Made me wonder how older folk were supposed to navigate that

Pavements starting to ice over in Leith at the moment, going to be quite bad getting to the ground if it remains freezing

May be wrong but I think there is still some residential property on Princes St.
Multi-million apartments would be a way forward now that the shops have moved out.
I'm sure that is what they would cost/go for... but I can't get my head around why you'd want to live there to be honest! I guess it's all down to personal preferences but it's going to be busy/noisy, difficult to get in and out, no private garden, and you're in a flat surrounded by others to the left, right, up, and down.
Luxury AirBnB might stand a chance - could put up with the above for a weekend for some lovely Instagram pics of the castle... :greengrin

Lots of snow on the side roads and pavements at Colinton Mains. Heading off shortly so not sure what the main roads are like. Had to clear the roof of the car as it was fairly deep. Very light fall just now but more like sleet than snow.
