View Full Version : Strange flag in Hibs end.

Can someone explain why there is a green white and black Union Jack in the Hibs end please? It has been around for a while.

I would like to know the reasoning behind this flag as it baffles me, but I am all for reasoned discussion, so please do not take offence if it is someone on the forum. I am not looking for an argument, just the logic behind it, and others opinions.

It was adapted and adopted by the football hooligan fraternity in the 1980s

Ok, thanks.

I was a season ticket holder back in the late eighties, but do not remember it from then, (but, I can hardly remember where I put my car keys nowadays:top marks.)

I was not part of the casual scene so kinda figures.

I heard it referred to as the fenian jack over the years.

As above posters have said. Was a wind up aimed at the glasgow 2 also.

They've been going about for years (there's more than one). The big one with the names on it is a nice touch. I think it's a pretty smart flag, all things considered.

There's a stadium 45 miles west & 300+ years in the past where that shape of flag is welcome

I'll pay the bus fare of anyone who feels the need to bring a hideously British flag to a football match

My guarantee - you'll not want to go to sit with Fellow Traveller "born under a union flag" types twice

Get it in the sea

They couldn't give two hoots about them. More aimed towards clubs down south that the CCS were Britian top firm and they clearly weren't gonna use the original flag were they.

It does always gets a far few bites, particularly from Celtic fans, on social media whenever it is pictured so it's an added bonus really.

I've no idea what the reasoning behind the flag was but if it provokes a reaction from the simpleton element in both OF fanbases then it's fine by me.

Gets a few bites from some of our own fans as well by the looks of it.

Just a flag in Hibs colours with no link to a union jack imho. I like it. Same with green and white 'saltire' style. Flags add a bit of colour to the place.

Was impressed at the number of flags in the home end at Pittodrie recently .

It's been around for 40 years mate, have you just noticed it?

Originally the CCS 'these colours don't run' flag. Winds up the OF.

Now it's just a flag in Hibs colours. Winds up the OF.

On 16th January 1989, however, Sheekh and a Somalian friend were attacked by a gang of eight to ten fascist “football casuals”, some of whom were connected to the National Front.[12] “Screaming racist abuse, the thugs repeatedly punched, kicked and stabbed the two black students on the head, arms and body.”[13] His friend was hospitalised. Sheekh died of stab wounds.[14]

Are you trying to link a Hibs flag to this incident...surely not.

I think this one has run it's course. Asked and answered so to speak.

Only likely to go one way now so let's call it closed.
