First American leader I was aware of as a child. His downfall was due to him having a conscience, not much has changed in American politics.

Night and day when you look at the state of American political leadership now. He struck me as being a good, modest man.

He seemed to hark from an era when the US produced proper statesmen. I saw a video the other day of John McCain being asked by a supporter about Barack Obama's birth certificate and he closed it down right away, said he was a 'good American man who I just happen to disagree with politically'. When you contrast that and guys like Carter to an ignoramus like Trump then it highlights what we have lost.

Reading about his dads commitment to segregation it must have taken a lot of courage to stand with the civil rights movment and he was ahead of the curve on climate change.

That McCain video is so powerful, iirc he was behind Obama in the polls, and the question was asked to try to tee him up to have a go at Obama (not at his request), but he deliberately chose to shut it down immediately, using the comment you’ve quoted. The world is a poorer place without men like McCain and Carter, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they were

Not sure if Nixon before him was worse or better than Trump. America has always had more than it's fare share of nutcase presidential candidates, their society encourages it.

He offered to make a hasty retreat of US forces in return when he gained office. In other words he was a traitor.

And let's not forget his bombing of Laos.

I remember hearing somewhere that by international civilian death count Nixon is the worst president of all time and it's not even close.

And Cambodia. Led to the Khmer Rouge taking power and millions of further deaths. Supported by Kissinger who somehow got a Nobel Peace Prize. Truly through the looking glass with that one. Carter was a decent man but the state of the American economy at that time and the Iran hostages did for him

Jimmy Carter described the Israeli rule over Palestine as 'segregation'. Because of that, he was called an Anti-Semite.

Clearly nothing has changed.

Standard playbook by the Zionists unfortunately.

For some reason criticising Isreal murdering people is equated to anti-Semitism.
