With the 150th Hibs anniversary coming up, thought it appropriate to run salt in Jambo wounds by dredging up the centenary derby results.

Centenary Derby (Hibs)

Formed 6 August 1875

30 August 1975, - Hibs 1, Hearts 0 (Harper)

Centenary Derby (Hearts)

Typical of those pricks, they don’t know the date they were formed but think it was in 1874.

1st January 1974. - Hibs 3, Hearts 1 (Cropley 2, Duncan)

7 September 1974 Hibs 2, Hearts 1 (Duncan, OG)

Any more mature Hibbies remember any of those games?

Hibs have won the most derbies on 1st January not that big a deal as I remember they were usually a 0-0 borefest apart from 0-7 obviously

The 1974 3-1 at Easter Road New Years Day was the game Alex Mickey Edwards was going around singing Jingle Bells to the Hearts players according to Jimmy O’Rourke as we took revenge for 1-4 at Tiny earlier in the campaign

Looking back Alex Cropley ( Sodjer ) loved a goal against the Hearts scoring some rakers

The 7 Sept 74 one is the one where Garland saved two Hibs penalties and we still won (and we played in all green tops).

Hearts wore their Ajax tops IIRC

7th October 1957 Hibs spoil the party

Hearts opened their floodlights at Tiny and Hibs trailing 0-2 fought back to win 2-4 after goals from a young Joe Baker and a Tommy Preston hat-trick

I’m sure we wore the bottle green jerseys in the 3-1 game, they wore some sh**y Ajax knock off rag [emoji23]

I wasnt around until the 80s but the 70s must have been class. Hibs had 19 derby wins between 1969-1979 compared to 2 wins for Hearts in the same period. :cb

Yes Joe volleyed his into the roof of the net. It was the first time I’d seen him and he was only a couple of years older than me which was exciting . I remember thinking “this is going to be good”and it was.

He's here!

Yes, there was a run of 0-0 draws and 3 seasons where Hearts were in the lower leagues (plus one when we were down there) but I don't think we lost a new year derby for nearly 20 years. Overall we still have the edge.

Alex Miller has a lot of explaining to do.

I remember him saying it was only two points or whatever had a reputation for boring negative tactics everyone back at corners etc with the personality to match but he did sign some wonderful attacking players for us had the last laugh helping take Liverpool to the summit of European football

Anytime he is on Hibs TV talks sense and is usually spot on with his analysis

I believe Hearts have never, ever won a derby in between XMAS / NEW YEAR when it falls on a Thursday. That’s 150 years and something like 16 matches. Who would have thought :aok:
