Interesting stats:

Be interesting to see same for Scotland.

It’s hardly surprising, though. The English league is, probably, the most watched in the world and pulls in talent from around the globe. In pursuit of that English players get pushed out. It may have been Man U the other day didn’t have a single English player in their line-up. Players become managers. So, in pursuit of the big bucks they are diminishing the conveyor belt of talent from home.

What's also pointed out is that British managers are hampered in their ability to manage abroad due to to the fact they speak only one language - unlike the majority of the foreign coaches who work in the UK. Hence why they end up in the US or Australia and not the bigger football nations.

Did hear a stat the other week, before Russell Martin was sacked, that if he were to go there would be no Scottish managers in the top 2 leagues in England for the first time in (insert large number) years.

Looks like Alex Neil will be back in a job soon, so that record will be back in play. It is a remarkable record, but it says a lot that there are so few these days.

I know there are a lot of guys on social media who are managing at lower levels in England but are ambitious who say they are repeatedly rejected by the FA when applying to do the top level badges. Rejection letters every year telling them they aren't 'suitable candidates at this time'. Obviously the A and Pro license can't just be something any guy down the pub cam pitch up and do and there has to be screening but that must be off putting if guys are getting rejected themselves and hearing the same from their peers. You can't create a new generation of elite coaches if the pathway to get there becomes a closed shop half way down the road.

The SFA coaching pathway is needlessly convoluted as well. Fine once you get going as the guys who run the courses are helpful and friendly but if you were new to it navigating the website and finding a course with availability can be so tedious many would give up. I wanted to go back and do the next level of my goalkeeping badges about 3 years back and my website login wouldn't work. Reset password didn't work, no reply to at least 5 emails and 3 phone calls that ended with promises of call backs which were then never honoured. I just gave up in the end.
