KERR DODDS, the Whitehill Welfare midfielder, admits he will never forget the moment he scored a goal with an assist from one-time Champions League winning striker Benni McCarthy.

McCarthy caused a stir after making a guest appearance for the Lowland League club in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Hamilton under-20s. He was persuaded to play by Whitehill defender John Hall, whose girlfriend is the sister of the 36-year-old's wife.

"It was a bit surreal that he was playing," Dodds admitted. "His hold up play was unreal. Everything was sticking to him.

"It gave all the boys a lift as well, it probably made us play a wee bit better. He set me up for my goal as well, it's something I'll never forget."

Benni McCarthy is continuing his coaching badges, and is currently helping out at Hibernian FC in Scotland's Championship.

McCarthy, who is living in Edinburgh, said that Alan Stubbs, the former Everton player and now head coach at Hibs, had kindly allowed him to help out at the club and gain on-hand experience.

"Obviously I know the coach, back from our playing days when I was at Blackburn and he was at Everton," McCarthy told Hibs TV.
"And because I'm doing my coaching badges, and I live down in Edinburgh, he was kind enough to allow me to come in, just learn the coaching side of things, and that's how I ended up at Hibs."
