Had got my mum 2 tickets to see Andre Rieu's 2024 Christmas: Gold and Silver at the cinema tonight. Unfortunately nobody was clamouring for the 2nd ticket so I ended up going with her.

Highlight was very briefly seeing a bloke in the crowd wearing a green jumper with a big Hibs badge on the front.

The show was recorded in Maastricht, Netherlands and it was the only football thing I saw.

Is the famous fan on here!?

His shows always seem to be on Sky Arts. Curiously hypnotic due to the extraordinary fan base he commands. Reminiscent of the James Last Orchestra.

How was the Christmas show? I didn't know they showed them in cinemas. Do many people go?

Way back in the day I think you could go to the cinema to catch the Pathe football highlights.

Love the idea of football highlights at the cinema.

There were about 25 folk there, mostly older but also a couple parents with kids. It's a happy feel good thing I suppose. It's bloody long.

My mum really enjoyed it.

So that's what Vente is wearing when he is out and about in Holland.

Onoy person I saw with a football top on in Praia do forte near Salvador Brazil was wearing a Hibs top. Would be 2006/7 I went over to share the news that the Mali Magician has put us into Europe.

I recall a couple of my relatives (Hibs fans) going to see him live a good number of years ago but they'll be too elderly to have made the trip this year.

Glad your mum enjoyed it.

I saw Andre Rieu in Vienna in 2008 (I was living there at the time),

....but I definitely wasn't wearing a Hibs top :greengrin

Imagine watching this performance, live in Vienna, only about 3km away from the Danube.

Was it the 2023 Concert. I was there in my Hibs Christmas Jumperwith my wife when one of his dancers invited me to the floor to dance. She loved my Hibs Jumper and my Black Isle Waltz.

I’m going out on a limb here but I reckon if you went to an Andre Rui concert in Maastricht whilst wearing a Hibernian jumper then he’s definitely referring to you. How was it for you incidentally?

We were going to see him in Liverpool but it was cancelled due to moving the Eurovision there.I decided to take her out to the Maastricht concert as an expensive Xmas treat.
it was one of the nicest concert experiences we have had.We are both in our seventies but were surrounded by all age groups. I don’t know if it beats the East Stand in Easter Road on a cold wet night in December or January though.

The concert will most likely be aired on Sky Arts in the new year so we will all be able to put a face to your name Tarrahib, why did you not get him to play Sunshine on Leith.

Cheeky calling it Christmas 2024 when recorded in 2023! I was surprised at the editing, they constantly cut to members of the audience in tears or wiping their eyes.

Here's the trailer, no sign of Tarrahib unfortunately. Star of the show for me.

Surprised to find how many Hibby Rieu supporters there are out there. At this rate, who would bet against the big man playing Easter Road at some point in the future?!

The undernoted - not Maastricht, but Bahrain - dropped on YouTube a few days ago - saving this for the holidays and a bottle of good red!

The pipes and drums always stir the emotions.

Think this is the Irish Guards but this from Kirsty MacColl at Hogmanay is a favourite:

Been tradition in our house from when our now adult children were little that Christmas morning began with this piece at full volume and for the last few years it's been this version I've played.

I’d join :agree:

Saw him for the 2nd time in Glasgow on the 20th April this year although it was risky booking the tickets as it coincided with the Scottish Cup semi final weekend…sadly we lost the quarter final to the Huns.

Have to say his live shows are brilliant

Honestly, you should watch one of his concerts on Youtube.

For those that haven't seen him before, you'd be surprised how entertaining it is.

Anyway, is Tarrahib now the Chairperson of our new Andre Rieu Hibs Supporters Club?

What is it with us and big celebrity fans?? I'm still amazed we don't do more about Bob Marley. All our westward buses should pause at Harthill in respect.

I agree our list of celebrity fans is very impressive. Meanwhile in Gorgie the cardigan wearers get excited about having Ronnie Corbett and Greg Wallace as fans.

It's a magnificent rendition of that particular piece of music. I'm not a huge follower of the pipes being played but that's the exception, enough to bring a tear to a glass eye.

Played at my dear sister Jane's funeral, too - she posted on here as PapillonVert. She and I also used to go to Murrayfield where they play this before the game.

Always brings a tear, I start bubbling if I walk past the Mound and one of the pipers happens to be playing this.

I remember her well as a poster on here and always enjoyed reading her posts. I know well the feeling of losing a sibling.
