After watching some of the (unheard of) teams Hearts have played and teams playing weakened sides who don’t want to risk their better players, you’ve got to ask what’s the point of this competition. It looks like the fans can’t even be bothered turning up either.

I know there’s a lot of money sloshing about for being there but in my opinion it’s drastically diluting the prestige of European competition.

I understand that it gives teams much further down the food chain a chance to compete in it but it’s just a big turn off for me. Shocking teams in a rotten competition which is degrading the whole point of it. Second rate rubbish.

It is the new Intertoto Cup . When we played in Intertoto , fans of other clubs ( and some of our own ) were quick to ridicule it . Unfortunately , it looks like we `ll struggle to get into a more prestigious European competition in coming years even if we improve a lot as places for teams from our league will be reduced .

It’s worth significantly more in terms of both prize money and gate receipts than the intertoto cup, by several magnitudes. Qualification is also based on sporting performance rather than a “fair play” ranking.

I think it’s a good thing and it’s annoying that we’ve passed up the opportunity to compete in it over the last few years.

Financially massive for clubs like us and brilliant for fans getting multiple trips.

Even for bigger clubs than us (who aren’t in the elite) it’s a good thing. West Ham fans seemed pretty happy when they won it.

We certainly were, being crowned Champions of Europe is always nice :greengrin

More seriously, it's a great idea for a tournament however whoever comes 7th in the EPL should walk the competition. A European tournament without teams from the top 5 leagues? Now that would be interesting.

A competition without the top 5 league would have zero interest from broadcasters and therefore no prize money. Would literally be like the intertoto again.

It's what Hibs need to be striving for, league stage (if that's the term) European football at the lowest level would still be worth a lot to us financially.

As fans it would provide a handful of more exciting games, home and away.

I thought it was a great idea when first introduced- but I think at the time Hibs were in with a chance of qualifying for these competitions...

Totally disagree with your post, Look at west Ham, Roma, big clubs who went absolutely tonto when they won a european trophy. If we ever won it we would be going tonto too, let alone qualify for a group stage.. The organisers underestimated its popularity by putting the final in small stadiums previously now its in a 45,000 stadium, it has captured the imagination of fans, but clearly not you !

No.

You might want to do some management, removing people with cardigans polishing the rover in their profile pic.

The first time I could afford an overseas match. Overnight on a rammed coach from Waverley Bridge. The ferry crossing was brilliant with the singing and crates of beer.

Any tournament which has Larne v The New Saints is as Mickey Mouse as they come.

Like the intertoto but for bairns 😂

I agree with the principle of the competition but think they’ve gone too far with too many teams playing too many game. It actually seems harder to get knocked out than stay in.

Yes I would rather Hibs were in it now that it does exist but still think it devalues what European competition is (or was) all about. It’s probably just harking back to the days when we could actually compete against Europes best I suppose.

Anyway, imagine if we had qualified and were having to play two games a week, we’d be bottom of our own league by now! 😂

If the Conference league didn't exist we'd probably never play European group stage football. It's a good thing for clubs at our level, both for the fan trips and financially.

Agree but my point is the standards are being lowered so far that any old rubbish can get in. If it makes you money and gets the fans a good trip then fine .

Nothing like the Intertoto.

Without it I wouldn't have had the chance to see Hibs play at Villa Park.

If we were in it no one would be ridiculing it.

Unfortunately when it comes to Europe Hibs are "any old rubbish". It's designed to give teams at our level and their fans a taste of group stage European football, as we could never achieve that otherwise.

At the same time it's worth a few million to the club if you can get it.

Don't see the down side with it to be honest.

I think it’s actually enhanced the prestige of the Europa League as it’s quite obvious that this is the *****y tournament. Having Chelsea in it is like watching Tyson Fury fighting with Primary 4 kids.

I’m definitely in favour of it. It be an opportunity to bring significantly more money into our club if we had owners who had the slightest clue what they are doing. Also a great opportunity for fans to experience watching their team abroad.

I don’t really see any prestige in playing in Europe these days. If you’ve got deep pockets, you can play in it every year. If you’ve don’t, you can’t.

It’s barely about football ability, just how much cash you have.

It’s just the wealthiest clubs playing each other every season. Really couldn’t care less which multi billionaire comes out on top.

As for the Euro Conf League, it’s pretty much all we’ve got to aim for.

Kinda agree with the OP, we’d just be another rubbish team that nobody has heard of playing against similar.

Very true, as fans who would we rather be playing? Give me great sides from Italy, Germany, Spain, England etc over tge 4th placed club in Albania or Romania or such like (with the greatest of respect) how good was Villa (especially away) even though we got banjoed.
