When I saw us warming up I Initially thought we might have been wearing all white. It's not an uncommon directive for TV games in some countries when red plays green for a team to change because of issues around colour blindness.

Agreed the home kit looked miles better with white shorts. With proper Hibs socks this season of green with white trim it just completed the look.

Hopefully something that is just quietly made permanent going forward.

That will be standard in the six nations from next year. So seeing Ireland and Wales play in Green and Red respectively is a thing of the past.

Must be infuriating for colourblind people. I’m sure everyone has that one colourblind friend and take great delight in asking them what colour they see with different things.

We won the Scottish Cup with white shorts and white socks. Maybe SDG thought anything was worth a try.

Whatever, I always think it's a combo that makes us look lighter on our feet, zippier somehow, even if it's not actually the case.

Aesthetically it's certainly streets ahead of green shorts.

The white shorts are far more aesthetically pleasing. The team shedding the warm up tops and running onto the pitch in pristine green and white under the lights was a sight that made you confident of an elegant showing.

That soon disappeared when the whistle blew for KO and chaos ensued, but I was more confident of a comeback with the white shorts rather than had we been sporting green!

Obviously a deliberate change. I've often thought that essentially an all green kit must be very difficult to spot on a players peripheral vision.
Not very conducive to fast passing and picking players out, especially at many away grounds where the floodlighting isn't on a par with ER.
I love a Hibs kit with both white shorts and socks but my personal preference would be a for a brighter green like now rather than the dark and dour 2016 shade.

We wore green shorts during the League Cup winning season in 2007 (and possibly beyond) but I think the white sleeves covered the shoulders so it didn't seem quite so green.

Alex Ferguson famously banned a grey United away kit after the players struggled to spot each other.

A study of performance based on strip colours from EPL was carried out a few years ago.

Green strips worst performing strips for wins and losses. So maybe something in it.

Green strips only being worn by the away team will heavily influence those figures. Wonder how green strips fair in other countries? Panathinaikos are the second most successful side in Greece for instance.

Good point. As an example Palmeiras are the most successful club in Brazilian history and they wear green - so probably just disregard that article!

I totally agree. I don’t like the home kit being messed with. It’s understandable that kit manufacturers look for a new gimmick as kits change every season, but tradition is important. White shorts and green socks are fundamentals. They can have fun with away kits. If they release a shocker, it’s only for one season.

Gary Pallister was absent while David May was only named as a substitute, meaning Neville was selected at centre-half on a day to forget for the visitors, but the Sky Sports pundit has revealed there was purpose behind his manager's unexpected actions.

Neville told The Football Show: "Why would we have had another spare kit ready? It never came across well, because you're losing and you change your shirts at half-time. Gary Pallister was absent while David May was only named as a substitute, meaning Neville was selected at centre-half on a day to forget for the visitors, but the Sky Sports pundit has revealed there was purpose behind his manager's unexpected actions.

"It's a bit unique, but there was a bit of science behind it. Sir Alex had employed a couple of years before Professor Gail Stephenson from Liverpool University, and we had her as our 'eye coach'.

"It's going to sound really daft this, but one of the great theories around football that was presented at United at the time was that match sharpness was nothing to do with your physical fitness. It was to do with your eye muscles being able to react to things happening on the pitch.

"Sir Alex had this in his head before the game that this kit was a problem because he'd been told by Gail. We had a full set of kit ready to put on at half-time. You don't take another kit to a game unless you're thinking there's a problem with it. He had this in his head, but it didn't come across very well."

"There were no conversations... it was 'get the kits off' from the kit man Albert [Morgan]. We lost in the kit previously [at Arsenal and Liverpool]. Sir Alex did have his superstitions and his beliefs, but I genuinely think he felt there was a problem with this kit and the Southampton game was the final straw!

I disliked this season's home strip from the first moment I saw it. The green shorts were ghastly in concept and very poor for the TV coverage because there was just too much green on the screen. I wonder if the players even had difficulty seeing each other at longer distances. The transformation in results may be a total coincidence but I think not. Green shorts were a really bad idea.

Numerous factors can justifiably be cited as fundamental to our turnaround, but the switch to the white shorts/white socks combo has been a masterstroke.

Might be wrong but I think there was noticeably more white in those kits despite the green shorts (eg over the shoulder, down the side of the shirt). The current kit has very little white on show when coupled with green shorts. White socks might have helped.

I agree that too much green is likely to affect how easy it is to see team mates.

It also bears out when you think about how it used to be when we played Celtc, before away kits were the automatic. Hibs would stick green shorts on and everything was fine! It's the white that attracts the eye. All green on a green pitch... I don't have any qualifications in this sort of thing, but I bet folk that do would say green on green isnae wise.
