View Full Version : Will we be good enough to come straight back up from the Championship?

We're clearly not even good enough to earn a play-off spot so on the basis that we go straight down the rebuild required is enormous. So much money squandered on more dead wood. I'm not convinced we'd even come back up any time soon, especially under the current 'reverse Midas' owners (everything they touch turns to s**t).

To answer the thread question - we didn’t the last time! That’s all that needs saying.
There is no danger this team would win the championship.

No chance. Watching the championship each Fridays we’re way off the pace. Absolutely no chance. We’d be lucky to win League 1 with the players we have

We look to be going down with a lowest ever points total (since 3 points for a win). It's quite impossible to see where we're getting our next one from, let alone 3. We are quite incredibly awful.

75 points to play for. Get the right guy in and we won’t need to battle out that championship.

Of course we can come straight back up. If we do go down there will be a complete clear out of playing and coaching staff. Nothing guaranteed but to say we've no chance of coming back up is just daft. Anyway there is 20 games to the split so plenty time and points to play for. After tonight I think Gray will be gone so next decision is huge.

You can't possible believe this group of players will keep us up?! Yes Gray is a problem and needs to go but the players are just as much a problem.

Can we afford yet another raft of signings, while being stuck with the latest batch of deadwood on long contracts? The Gordon regime must have brought 70 plus players through the door by now and they make us worse and worse. I wouldn't back them to bring us back up. I could actually see us not even really mounting a promotion challenge.

We’re good enough ability wise, but we definitely don’t have physicality or the character to do well in the Championship with the players we have just now.

Looking at our next 3 fixtures (I can’t bare to look any further ahead) it seems certain we are getting cut adrift and won’t be picking up any points so we will have to hope so. What a disgrace this lot are.

This current team wouldn’t win the Championship, no, IMHO. However, it would be a completely different team down there. We just need to some way, somehow, stay up and then empty this squad. That’s a huge task, but it’s a damn sight better than relegation. I would never forgive the club if it happened again.

Fortunately most of the current players won't be here, isn't it about 15 players out of contract at the end of the season? Much will depend on who goes down with us, if it was the jambos, no chance and we'd be in the championship for two years minimum. I've almost resigned myself to the fact we'll be relegated this season. We're a wounded dog who simply needs to be put down.

I wasn't really all that worried about relegation but after results yesterday there is a bit of the cutting adrift starting to happen and 3 points seems unlikely on Tuesday to start to reverse that. Even a win won't get us out the bottom 2 now.
As for the Championship it's hard to say. I was at Raith v Morton last week and for all there was 5 goals it was a pretty grim watch. It's a competitive league but outside a couple of teams not a high quality one. This particular Hibs team would struggle but I don't think next season's team will look anything like this one so who knows.

Only positive I can think of is that absolutely none of these wasters would have the heart for a Championship scrap and would demand to be moved on.
A demand that would be met like knock on an open door.
So a Championship squad would need to be built from scratch, not unlike the last time.

A lot of bed-wetting going on here. If and it's still if we get relegated then we will have a new team, as most are out of contract, and more than likely a new manager. So in the event we get relegated we will come straight back up.

What makes you think we'd sign adequate replacements or appoint a decent manager? The Gordon regime has seen a relentless conveyor belt of dross arriving. Think someone said they've signed 80 players, the vast majority being rubbish.
There are plenty new players on long contracts which will also clog up any recruitment plans.
Harboring deep concerns about the danger the club is in can't just be brushed off as bed wetting. Hibs are dreadful.

Possibly with Garvan Stewart coming in hopefully and if we are needing a manager with the BK’s input too …have we that many new players on long contracts that will clog up our recruitment plans too ?

Why do we always have to go down this route in order to fix ourselves?!
The ,ast time we went down in 2014, lets be honest that relegation had been coming for some time, the club had being on a downwards trajectory probably since the Collins era. The relegation saw a complete overhaul from top to bottom and we came back a different club. Why haven’t lessons been learned?!
To answer the OP question though - no. No I absolutely do not believe we would come straight back up next season in our current state. The club is a mess and it won’t be a quick fix unfortunately.

Not in the slightest. The club simply deserves every ounce of flak coming their way. The mismanagement at Hibs is a disgrace. It drives me nuts.
And they're not 'misfortunes'. They're the self-inflicted results of utter incompetence.

I’m amazed that people are still thinking that there are people who are seeking out reasons to slate the club or similar.
Look where we are. Bottom of the league and showing no signs of fight and an utter clown show from top to bottom.
I’ve been saying it for 2-3 seasons now how badly wrong we’re getting it. We can see it with our eyes. This is as bad as it’s been and the worrying thing is that unless we pull on the brakes it can get infinitely worse.

Fully agree with you. No one to blame but themselves. Folk are now simply pissed off with everything at Hibs and they have every right to be. Many are simply walking away from the club at the moment which is the worst thing that can happen

We can't afford to go down to the Championship..it would a financial nightmare..
My hope is that we will get quality loan signings from Bournemouth and our new Head of Recruitment will be given funds for new players and a new Head Coach. The "trust the process" Golden Quadrant - who were willing to pay £1m in the summer for McCowan when we didn't have an established goalkeeper - will be sidelined in the decision making.
If Carlsberg did scenarios 🤞

Hopefully I'm wrong but I think Hearts will ultimately climb away from trouble. Their plight doesn't somehow seem as awful as ours. They should have been leading Celtic at HT last night. Could have lost more heavily in the end, granted, but Gordon kept the score down and a solid keeper can make a big difference in tight games.

I think that individually we have decent footballing skills. We are bereft of good coaching, determination and team spirit. We will probably be relegated and if we don’t work on all the weaknesses I’ve mentioned, we will remain a Championship club for a long time.
