View Full Version : Is this the most universally popular Hibs strip?

From 1976 v Motherwell, and the last year of unbranded strips for Hibs.

The decluterred plain strips will never come back in the commercial world now, but what a magnificent strip.

While people perhaps look back to the fashions and styles of the 70’s with some horror, a lot of football fans will choose the era for having their clubs favourite strips. They all looked great before the badges, sponsors and sportswear branding.

This shade of green is Hibs for me.

It is for me but I was 10 yrs old when it came out and it coincided with a great spell from about ‘72 to ‘75.

Historically we started with a dark bottle green strip and it's got lighter as the years went by, we went back to the bottle green in 2015-16 season and won the cup with it, I much prefer the darker green.

It’s is the essence of Hibs but I think kids and teenagers want the latest kits that are a bit different.

I don’t particularly like our home top this year but the purple striped kit is a thing of beauty, as was the white away kit from last season.

We didn’t have a white kit last season. Away was purple, 3rd was the cream/beige one. Our away one this season is white

I always argue a home top should be simple and stick closely to tradition.

Small variations but stuff like the daft diagonal line on the 2012 kit, the stripes on the sleeves in the mid 90s or the unforgivable green shorts as standard in both the mid 00s and again this season should be no go.

Do whatever with the away and 3rd kits. Make them as wacky as you like to appeal to the 'young ones' (is there a more middle age out of touch term than that btw?) but keep the home simple.

I think I'd actually find it a bit upsetting seeing some of the more recent teams in that strip. It really wouldn't seem 'right'.

One of the best strips since those days, for me, was this one. Perhaps it harks back in some of its styling to the strip in the opening post and that's why I like it.

I like either 70's kit with both shades of green, I remember being disappointed when the 70's Retro's has sold out so I had to go for the 50's.

Anyway good picture, wonder what happened to make the Motherwell player so amused, also the ref with a wee grin on his face.

I find it pretty weird that that strip has been the only time we’ve really tried to mimic what us fairly universally accepted to be our most iconic kit.

Round neck, a darker green, correct colour of shorts and socks and keep it as simple as possible.

It would surely be hugely popular?

When I was very young, Peter Millar lived in one of a row of villas that were built over the back of my nana and papas fence, in Wishaw. Replacing tomato glasshouses, IIRC.
My papa told me a famous footballer had moved in, so I used to stand at the railings and stare. Every now and again he'd give me a friendly wave. Probably creeped him out though.:greengrin
Just looked him up, and he died in 2013, aged 62. RIP Neebor.

The top in my avatar is the perfect colour of green and is a classic design IMHO.

Replace the HFC embroidered lettering with the current crest next season and that would do me nicely.

Must have white shorts and green socks with white tops too.

I would like to see the return of long sleeved Hibs tops, they add a touch of class to the jersey.

The 70's era top had some variations, like green cuffs to the sleeves that was from mid 70's. I liked that.

The jersey of the 40's and 50's, as worn by our league winning sides, that was a lighter shade of green, more vibrant. It's a design classic with it's rugby style collar.

My view on the badge is the current version is a perfect representation of the club, reflecting it's origins (the harp) and location (ship and castle).

As for the colour of the strip... I would like it to be a darker green, like in the 1970s version, but definitely not a bottle green as that's a bit too dark.
